Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2013.Abstract : This study aims to investigate two translations of FLICTS, first children's book written by Ziraldo and first full-colored album for children produced in Brazil, with a view to discussing the different interactions between text and image that might occur within the translation of children's literature. Considered a landmark in Brazilian Children's Literature since its launch in 1969, its British version was translated by Silvia Caruana and published by the publishing house Roger Schlesinger in 1973 and its American English version was translated by Daniela Pinto, originally published by Melbooks in 1984 - subsequently also published by Editora Melhoramentos and commercialized in Brazil. The theoretical framework informing the study is based on the interface of Descriptive Translation Studies, Translation of Children's Literature and the Grammar of Visual Design. By the analyses of a multimodal corpus and a dossier about the history of this printed book, it was possible to note that the several changes along FLICTS publishing history have made up other possible readings on this work

    Causalidad y acción

    No full text

Does pyrolysis temperature determine soil phosphorus bioavailability and uptake on peri-urban cropland amended with poultry litter biochar?

    No full text
Pyrolysis temperature is a key factor that determines the characteristics of biochar and nutrient availability. However, little is known about how pyrolysis temperature affects phosphorus (P) bioavailability and uptake as well as the underlying mechanism when poultry litter biochar (PB), or its combination with NPK, is applied as a soil amendment on peri-urban cropland. To determine the influence of low and high pyrolysis temperatures on PB and its impact on P bioavailability, uptake and maize yield, we set up a randomized block design field study with the following treatments: (i) No amendment (CK), (ii) NPK mineral fertilization, (iii) biochar pyrolyzed at 300 degrees C (PB300), (iv) biochar pyrolyzed at 600 degrees C (PB600), (v) PB300 + NPK, and (vi) PB600 + NPK. Our results demonstrate that differences in pyrolysis temperatures (300 degrees C) - low and (600 degrees C) - high at which PB was pyrolyzed had no controlling influence on P bioavailability, uptake, soil microbial biomass P, alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity, mycorrhizal fungi components (spores, colonization, glomalin, mycelium density), and maize yield. Similarly, regardless of pyrolysis temperature differences, the combination of PB with NPK (PB300 + NPK and PB600 + NPK) significantly (p < 0.05) increased soil P availability by 24% and 13%, uptake 46% and 42%, soil microbial biomass P 63% and 60%, C 8% and 2%, alkaline phosphatase 58% and 37%, and maize yield 37% and 36%, respectively, compared with NPK. PB + NPK, regardless of pyrolysis temperature, retained more P from total P input, which indicates that PB could be a veritable soil amendment technology for mitigating P leaching and enhancing P use efficiency and recycling on peri-urban croplands

Biochar and neem seed cake co-amendment effects on soil nitrogen cycling and NH3 volatilization in contrasting soils

Abstract In a 28-day incubation study, ball milling technologies were applied to enhance the sorptive and functional properties of pristine biochar. The effect of ball-milled (BM) biochar, neem seed cake, and their co-amendment was evaluated on nitrification, ammonia (NH3) volatilization, and the abundance of nitrifying microbial communities in three contrasting tropical soils of different pH (acidic, neutral, and alkaline). The amendments were applied at 2% dry w/w to soils fertilized with ammonium chloride (NH4Cl). Results showed that in neutral and alkaline soils, the co-amendment led to a 40% and 64% increase in NH3 volatilization, respectively, compared to control due to significant ammonium (NH4 +) retention and temporary nitrification inhibition. Conversely, in acidic soil, BM biochar and neem seed cake amplified nitrification by 23% and 62%, respectively, compared to sole amendments, while neem seed cake increased NH3 volatilization by 56% compared to BM biochar + neem seed cake due to NH4 + retention, altered soil pH, and changes in nitrifying microbial community. The abundance of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA), ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), and complete ammonia oxidizers (Comammox) was altered by changes in soil pH and N availability modulated by BM biochar and neem seed cake. Correlation analysis revealed significant relationships between soil organic matter (SOM), NH4 +, and NO3 − on the abundance of nitrifying microorganisms. The study affirms the efficacy of BM biochar-neem seed cake co-amendment on nitrification inhibition but indicates potential N losses by NH3 volatilization depending on soil type, highlighting the need for soil type-specific management strategies to optimize N retention while minimizing environmental impacts

El contexto sin bordes segun Jacques Derrida

The work starts from a problem of several decades in the field of historians: their fear of the allegedly anti-contextualist proposals that emerge from the work of Jacques Derrida. The hypothesis is that in a non-caricatural reading of the famous formula «there is no outside the text» it shows that, far from denying the existence or importance of the context, the French author wants to suggest that the text cannot be isolated, because he is edgeless. Starting from wondering if the problem does not lie more in the way of conceiving the contextualization work, the famous «incriminated» passage and the way in which the suspicion that surrounds it began to circulate, and then examine the role of context in Derrida and end with a contextualization of Derrida himself and his work in light of the presence / absence of the unspeakable of historical trauma.

The guideline of the work described here is the "male homosociability" and "urban culture of Mediterranean tradition", as a cosmological field of social practices at the metropolitan peripheral area of Grande Florianópolis, at Santa Catarina state. The text is supported by anthropological symbolic analysis of urbanization and migration processes, which constituted themselves as social practices based on a Mediterranean moral field that defines daily life shape at some communities characterized by accelerated urban growth and demographic concentration of immigrant populations. The main analysis data of social interactions contexts were collected by ethnographic method of research and analyzed in light of anthropological literature about complex societies and urban contexts, cosmology and Mediterranean people of Spain, Portugal, Greece, Egypt, Cyprus and Algeria. Ethnographic experience focused on daily contact between the researcher and some social paths of two immigrant "family leaders", deriving from agricultural tradition, which had been rooted in one of the cities of the searched area. The main arguments of the thesis questioned the aspects that characterized some Brazilian culture singularities, considering social interaction contexts exclusively guided by the original Mediterranean tradition, pondering on what it is assumed to be "originally Brazilian"

Women in African Drama: Representation and role

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to examine the representation and role of women in African theatre. The discussion is based on published and unpublished plays by African writers selected from a pan-African perspective. The thesis is divided into two major parts: Women in Society; The Portrayal of Women by Major Playwrights. Part I follows a thematic approach aimed at examining the position of women in three different areas which form the chapters for the part : Women, Tradition and Social Change; The Urban Woman and Women in Politics. Part II of the thesis analyses major African playwrights' presentation of women characters. This part discusses not only the characterization of women by major playwrights but also these writers' attitude towards women and women's issues. Examined here in two chapters are The Portrayal of Women by Major Male Playwrights and The Portrayal of Women by Major Female Playwrights. Chapter 1, 'Women, Tradition and Social Change' discusses selected playwrights' examination of African women's experiences in the traditional African setting as a major foundation of the present and future socio-political situation of the continent; this chapter is the springboard of the study. From the traditional milieu the study then moves on to the relatively new urban environment. This Chapter examines the predicaments in which the African woman finds herself as she struggles to survive in a world which differs significantly from the traditional one. Survival in the urban environment demands a certain degree of autonomy from communal ties on the part of the individual. Yet in the case of the African woman, society does not hesitate to censure her movements and even to point an accusing finger at her for failing to satisfy traditional expectations when she is genuinely trying to meet the challenges presented by life in towns. The myth that a woman's place is exclusively in the kitchen is a widespread one the world over. A more negative myth found in Africa is that participation of women in public affairs leads to social disaster. The third chapter of this study examines the role of African women in politics in the traditional and contemporary periods. The fourth chapter discusses the portrayal of women by major male playwrights. Of great significance in this analysis is the attitude of these male writers towards women and also towards issues affecting women. It is for this reason that cross-references are made between these male writers and the female playwrights examined in Chapter 5. Very negligible research has been done on drama by African women. It is in recognition of this unfortunate situation that the fifth and last chapter of this thesis is dedicated to women's self-perception as reflected in their portrayal of fellow-women in theatre. This chapter examines only major female playwrights; the minor female playwrights are examined alongside the male in the appropriate areas in Chapters 1 to 3

International audienceSectarian experience, breaking off or reparation? – Though the phenomenon of sects has been the object of so many social, psychosocial, historical or theological researches, the psychic basic processes have not been explored much until now. The author suggests a better understanding of the sectarian experience through a clinical approach, following double complementary angles: both systemic and psychoanalytical. This research tries to bring forward the psychical functions of the sectarian experience in the individual and familial backgrounds, particularly within the links of filiation and of belonging which are at the origin of identity.
