No full textPapillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common well differentiated thyroid tumor. By array-CGH we analysed 17 PTC (10 less aggressive and 7 more aggressive) to identified somatic copy number aberrations that may be involved in the progression and/or lethal course. Tumor DNA samples were compared to DNA samples of the same patient to identified only somatic copy number variations. Several gain or loss of genome region, present in multiple samples, have been identified. Among these, regions containing TNIK, CA12, DLEU2 and CCND3 genes were amplified in metastatic carcinomasIl carcinoma papillifero tiroideo (PTC) è il più comune cancro tiroideo differenziato. Mediante la metodica array-CGH abbiamo effettuato uno studio su 17 casi di PTC (10 casi poco aggressivi e 7 casi più aggressivi) al fine di identificare possibili alterazioni nel numero di copie geniche coinvolte nella tumorigenesi e predittive di una potenzialità metastatica o di una trasformazione aggressiva. Il DNA tumorale è stato comparato con DNA di tessuto sano del medesimo paziente, al fine di ottenere solamente le aberrazioni cromosomiche somatiche. Sono state così identificate diverse amplificazioni e delezioni di regioni genomiche, comuni a più campioni analizzati. No full textBohmian mechanics is an alternative interpretation of quantum mechanics. We outline the main characteristics of its non-relativistic formulation. Most notably it does provide a simple solution to the infamous measurement problem of quantum mechanics. Presumably the most common objection against Bohmian mechanics is based on its non-locality and its apparent conflict with relativity and quantum field theory. However, several models for a quantum field theoretical generalization do exist. We give a non-technical account of some of these model
Curing or triggering mental health challenges? A qualitative research study on consumer experience with the use of mHealth in the context of mental health disorders
No full textThis study explores the experiences of users with mental challenges using mHealth apps, focusing on their motives, paradoxical experiences, and strategies to manage these experiences. The research questions addressed were: "How do users with eating problems experience the use of mHealth apps?" and "How do users with eating problems manage their experience of using mHealth apps?" An abductive analysis of semi-structured interviews with individuals who had eating disorders and used mHealth during their challenges, building further on the paradox lens outlined by Mick and Fournier (1998). The data revealed that this group of consumers primarily uses mHealth to regulate food intake and physical exercise. In addition, it was found that their experience with mHealth is mainly characterized by paradoxical tensions, consisting of self-regulation/exacerbating mental health issues, confirmation/disconfirmation, hiding eating problems/exposing eating problems and competence/incompetence. Moreover, this study reconfirms the notion that consumers of digital technology cope with paradoxical tensions, by identifying eight coping strategies: compensating, pushing boundaries, accommodation, abandonment, avoiding triggering features, effective disengagement, verifying information, cheating
