Quantitative characterization of geomorphological and topographical features of debris-flow channels at the Alpe di Succiso mountain, Northern Apennines (Italy)
This study combines the traditional method of geological and geomorphological mapping with a quantitative GIS analysis to examine landforms and debris flows channels. Using a high-resolution DEM (5 m) as a base, the geomorphological map highlights the various landforms around the Alpe di Succiso (Northern Apennines, Italy), including glacial and cryoclastic features, slope landforms and deposits due to gravity (particularly debris flow) and deposits due to running waters. The methodology applied to the channels is based on the geomorphometric parameters derived from the DEM, including Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), Terrain Ruggedness Index (TRI), Slope Angle, and Elevation extracted every 10 m along each channel and grouping the channels in four classes based on their lengths. Within each class, multiple ranking criteria were employed for the identification of channels showing anomalous or common patterns. Debris flow channels exhibit anomalous patterns in the geomorphometric parameters, indicating significant variations in their topographical characteristics.

Adaptive radio propagation model for modern road infrastructure units in Vehicular Ad Hoc networks / Muhammad Ahsan Qureshi
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) is an evolving field of wireless technology having a wide range of useful applications. The deployment and testing of new applications and protocols in VANETs is costly and labor intensive, so the simulation provides a cost effective solution for the evaluation of new applications and protocols. The Radio Propagation Models (RPMs) are employed in VANETs to predict signal attenuation and radio coverage. The RPMs require realistic detail due to restrictively fast mobility of vehicles, nature of network and the underlying road infrastructure units. Modern vehicular environment contains road infrastructure units such as confined curved roads, flyovers, underpasses, straight roads and tunnels. Two types of radio obstacles exist in vehicular environment that impede radio signals; static obstacles (such as buildings), and the moving obstacles (such as large buses). The radio signals in 5.9 GHz band (IEEE 802.11p) are less penetrating as compared to Wi-Fi and GSM which operate in 2.4 GHz and 1.8GHz band respectively. The radio obstacles have high impact on vehicular communication and maintaining the Line-Of-Sight condition among communicating vehicles improves vehicular communication. Hence, developing realistic RPMs in VANETs for the modern road infrastructure units is a challenging task. The existing RPMs do not inspect the impact of modern road infrastructure units on radio propagation in the presence of radio obstacles. Further, no set of rules exists for optimal positioning of Road Side Units (RSUs) on modern road infrastructure units to facilitate reliable communication. Accurate prediction of signal attenuation requires realistic RPM that is capable of addressing physical factors, models both static and moving radio obstacles, considers the modern road infrastructure units and utilize realistic traffic detail found in actual traffic environment. However, incorporation of the required level of detail in an RPM demands extensive computations. Therefore, a light-weight RPM for modern road infrastructure units is needed to predict signal attenuation
iv
with acceptable accuracy. This research focuses on the development of an adaptive RPM with static and moving obstacle modeling that considers modern road infrastructure units to facilitate pragmatic simulation in VANETs and to provide reliable communication infrastructure. The proposed adaptive RPM selects among different modes of calculating signal attenuation depending upon the existing traffic conditions and underlying road infrastructure units along with the handling of radio obstacles. The adaptive RPM is evaluated on a small scale using real-world data obtained from extensive field measurement campaigns and also on a large scale using simulation. Optimal positioning of RSUs on modern road infrastructure units to maintain LOS condition among communicating vehicles is formulized using geometric concepts. Finally, a comparison is made between the two cases (presence and absence of RSUs at optimal distance) in terms of system evaluation metrics. This research redirects the existing efforts in the design of propagation models towards a novel perception by which to incorporate adaptability in propagation models as a benchmark towards realistic performance evaluation of new advancements
Expression of Recombinant Proteins for the Development of a c-ELISA Kit for the Serological Diagnosis of African Horse Sickness
African horse sickness (AHS) is a devastating arboviral disease of equids with mortality rates
reaching 95% in susceptible horses. Reliable serological diagnostic tools are essential for
surveillance, outbreak management, and facilitating international equine trade. This study aimed to
develop a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (c-ELISA) using a recombinant VP7
protein for the serological diagnosis of African horse sickness virus (AHSV). The VP7 core protein
was selected as the diagnostic antigen due to its high conservation across all nine AHSV serotypes
and group-specific antigenic properties.
Two variants of recombinant VP7 were evaluated: wild-type VP7 (WT-VP7) and a solubilityenhanced variant with a leucine to arginine substitution at position 345 (VP7-L345R). Both were
expressed using a baculovirus expression system in Sf9 insect cells. A comprehensive optimization
study identified extremely low multiplicity of infection (MOI 0.001) combined with extended culture
periods (120 hours post-infection) as optimal for VP7-L345R expression, yielding approximately 10
mg of purified protein from 0.75 L culture at 1.5 × 10^6 cells/mL. The recombinant VP7-L345R
demonstrated enhanced solubility with substantial secretion into culture supernatant, facilitating
simplified purification via immobilized metal affinity chromatography, while preserving essential
antigenic epitopes.
A panel of five monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) against VP7 was characterized through
immunoblotting and indirect ELISA. All recognized the recombinant VP7-L345R, confirming that
the solubility-enhancing mutation did not compromise critical antigenic determinants. Systematic
evaluation in a competitive format identified Mab 5D4F7 as optimal for c-ELISA development due
to its superior dynamic range, discriminatory capacity, and reproducibility. The finalized assay
utilized microplates coated with 1 μg/mL of purified VP7-L345R and Mab 5D4F7 at a 1:60,000
dilution.
This study has successfully produced and characterized the key reagents necessary for developing a
VP7-based c-ELISA for AHSV diagnosis. The solubility-enhanced VP7-L345R antigen, combined
with characterized monoclonal antibodies, provides a robust foundation for serological detection of
AHSV antibodies. These optimized reagents address an important need for enhanced surveillance
capabilities in the face of changing global patterns of vector distribution and equine movement.
Further validation studies are required to establish the full diagnostic performance of this assay under
field conditions

Subsystem (NGN) using the Genetic Intrusion Detection
Systems (IDS)Muhammad Imran Zulfiqar Dr. Muhammad Ahsan Latif University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan Abstract
IP Multimedia Subsystem designed by the 3rd
Generation Partnership Project to provide the access
networks services and telecommunication services,
plans to merge services like multimedia, data and
voice conversation under one umbrella. In this
research, network based anomaly detection system is
proposed by using Genetic Algorithm rules to avoid
such attacks like UDP Flooding which cause the DoS
and DDoS attacks keeping in view to secure the IMS
and also discussed the complete overview of IMS
(NGN) based network architecture, their DoS and
DDoS attacks which cause the unavailability of
services to the users.IMS inherits many security
issues because the billions users are in the form to
interact with IMS to get large No of services like
multimedia, data or voice conversation. Due the large
usage of IMS services there is also the availability of
malicious user to attack the IMS services and make
the services unavailable for the intended user, which
reduces the performance of IMS. IMS based
abnormality detection method is proposed using GA
as abnormality detector. Genetic Intrusion Detection
system effectively detects intrusive attack in IMS
system and shows low false positive results</div
