No full textEl siguiente documento presenta un informe de los proyectos y productos realizados por el estudiante Daniel Humberto Maldonado Monroy alumno de la facultad de ingeniería mecánica de la Universidad Santo Tomas seccional Tunja, a lo largo de su participación como integrante del semillero de investigación Tecnologías y aplicación de manufactura digital. Los proyectos fueron realizados bajo la dirección de los ingenieros Fernando Jiménez Diaz y Yina Faizully Quintero Gamboa. Además, estos proyectos fueron en conjunto con algunos compañeros de la facultad de ingeniería mecánica que también pertenecen al semillero de investigación.
El estudiante investigador realizó trabajos en áreas como diseño, fabricación, simulación de fluidos y simulaciones térmicas con ayuda de los docentes mencionados anteriormente. Con la producción de estos proyectos se fortalecen aptitudes de liderazgo, investigación y comunicación en el estudiante. Además de mejorar estas aptitudes con el semillero, se obtuvieron algunos productos de los cuales se dará una descripción.The following document presents a report of the projects and products carried out by the student Daniel Humberto Maldonado Monroy, a student of the faculty of mechanical engineering of the Santo Tomas Tunja sectional University, throughout his participation as a member of the research hotbed Technologies and application of digital manufacturing. The projects were carried out under the direction of engineers Fernando Jiménez Diaz and Yina Faizully Quintero Gamboa. In addition, these projects were in conjunction with some colleagues from the mechanical engineering faculty who also belong to the research hotbed.
The research student carried out work in areas such as design, manufacturing, fluid simulation and thermal simulations with the help of the teachers mentioned above. With the production of these projects, leadership, research and communication skills are strengthened in the student. No full textResumen: El ensayo se propone estudiar el libro de Carlo Levi como un documento de época y otras cuestiones –los personajes, el pensamiento mágico, la tanatofilia, el problema del Sur, la emigración, el género- que problematizan su lectura. For the profit of the objective of the different subjects boarded by the Italian writer are deconstructed the themes and, through this method, it is observed the different discourse possibilities that the text offers. As an Introduction it is presented a literary panorama and the context of the moment. Thematic aspects of the narration are analyzed after, and it is concluded that Cristo si è fermato a Eboli is a plural volume, of discursive and aesthetic convergence, rich in contents. No full textabstract: ABSTRACT This thesis aims to demonstrate the validity of political violence in contemporary Chicano and Peruvian American narratives as a reflection of the sociopolitical situation of immigrants and their descendants in the United States (U.S.). The thesis explores the various ways in which contemporary Chicano and Peruvian American narratives present the political violence in the U.S. towards Mexican and Peruvian immigrants and Chicanos and Peruvian Americans examining the intersections that exist between the resistance and violence discourses and its sociopolitical consequences. Although the topic of political violence has been previously studied in U.S. and Latin American narratives throughout its history, its analysis has been insufficiently explored as far as contemporary narratives of the XXI century are concerned. With this in mind, two texts will be used to study this discourse of violence in Chicano and Peruvian American literature: Alejandro Morales' "Pequeña nación" (2005) and Daniel Alarcón's "Guerra en la penumbra" (2005). The thesis examines the immigrant as a center of discourse exploring the conflict between them and the institutions or groups in power that instigate this political violence. The first chapter covers the socio historical background regarding Mexican and Peruvian migration flows to the United States in the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The second chapter introduces "The Triangle of Violence" proposed by Norwegian mathematician and sociologist Johan Galtung as the basis for the theoretical framework and approach of this analysis. Chapter three analyzes the Chicano short story "Pequeña nación" by Alejandro Morales. The analysis of the Peruvian American short story "Guerra en la penumbra" by Daniel Alarcón follows in chapter four. The conclusion emphasizes the problem of political violence experienced by immigrants in the U.S. in contemporary Chicano and Peruvian American narratives and possible solutions contained therein, protesting a problem that can hinder immigration policy reforms and the defense of human rights.Dissertation/ThesisM.A. Spanish 201
Is the discount on the secondary market a case for LDC debt relief?
No full textIn 1988, the prices on the secondary market of LDC debt averaged 50 cents per dollar of face value. From the observation of such discount, this paper goes one step further and argues thatthe debt should be written down in order to account for the discrepancy between the face and market value of the debt. The paper is structured as follows. Section 1 spells out the model, section 2 calculates the socially efficient and the post-default growth rates of the economy. Section 3 shows that the lenders, if they were to monitor the investment and the consumption strategy of the borrower, would choose a lower investment strategy than the socially efficient one. Section 4 shows how an optimum rescheduling can achieve the equilibrium described in section 3. Section 5 shows the dynamic inconsistency of the optimal strategy spelled out in section 4, and shows the link with the"debt overhang"literature. Environmental application of basic oxygen furnace slag for the removal of heavy metals from leachates
No full textIndustrial waste is a major environmental concern nowadays, stimulating the thorough study of the minimization and recycling of solid wastes and of the containment and treatment of liquid contaminants. Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag, a solid waste from the steel industry, has been found to be effective in the removal of heavy metals. However, this has not been applied so far in low permeability barriers, such as those used as bottom liners in landfills. This work studies the performance of BOF slag in both containment and treatment technologies for toxic leachates. Flow models are developed to assess the transport of metal ions through a permeable reactive barrier and a composite clay barrier. Reactive transport through the slag barrier and adsorption in the clay barrier are coupled for different conditions to find the residence time, the barrier life span and the optimum operative conditions. The results show that the use of BOF slag increases the breakthrough time of the contaminants, enabling improve design of low and high conductivity reactive barriers, and expands the life cycle of the material.Fil: Francisca, Franco Matias.
