Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Assim, temos como objetivo central de pesquisa: analisar os subsídios fornecidos pelo plano de expansão de 1958 para a transformação da paisagem do litoral norte do município. Usa-se como etapas metodológicas: investigação bibliográfica, documental, produção cartográfica e trabalhos de campo. Como resultados, identificou-se que a metamorfose sucedida na área, foi fruto de um anseio de urbanização, afim da implementação de novos usos ao referido setor da urbe, tais como: turístico, de lazer, habitacional, serviços e outros
El reggae em São Luís: la identidade cultural y el surgimento de la Jamaica brasileña

Parece que São Luiz es el territorio fuera de Jamaica donde el género musical tiene más éxito, habiendo incorporado en su población, principalmente negra, una serie de hábitos particulares durante la apropiación del reggae jamaiquino, así, el regueiro de São Luís creó lazos únicos con el ritmo jamaiquino y esa relación perdura hasta el día de hoy. Estos aspectos contribuyeron a que São Luís fuera concebida como la \u27Jamaica brasileña\u27. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar la relación entre el reggae y la población de Ludovic, sus particularidades y simbología. Como resultado, se identificó que la relación entre sociedad y reggae existente en São Luís tiene singularidades, que expresan aspectos históricos, culturales, raciales y de resistencia.This article discusses the arrival and consolidation of reggae in São Luís. It appears that São Luiz is the territory outside Jamaica where the musical genre is most successful, having incorporated by its population, mainly by blacks, a series of particular habits during the appropriation of Jamaican reggae, in this way, the regueiro of São Luís created unique bonds with Jamaican rhythm and that relationship endures to the present day. These aspects contributed to São Luís being conceived as \u27Brazilian Jamaica\u27. The objective of the research is to analyze the relationship between reggae and the population of Ludovic, its particularities and symbolism. As a result, it was identified that the relationship between society and reggae existing in São Luís has singularities, which express historical, cultural, racial and resistance aspects.O presente artigo discute a chegada e consolidação do reggae em São Luís. Constata-se que São Luiz é o território fora da Jamaica onde o gênero musical mais faz sucesso, tendo incorporado pela sua população, principalmente por negros, uma série de hábitos particulares durante a apropriação do reggae jamaicano, deste modo, o regueiro de São Luís criou laços únicos com o ritmo jamaicano e essa relação perdura até os dias atuais. REFLEXÕES SOBRE OS USOS DO TERMO “REVITALIZAÇÃO URBANA” EM PESQUISAS DA GEOGRAFIA
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to contribute with the debate about a recurrent practice throughout the development of geography, namely the discussion about categories, themes, terms, and other specificities that make up the field of Geography research. In this context, we present a discussion about the uses of the term "urban revitalization", which is routinely used by scholars of the aforementioned science as a synonym for a practice known as resurrection of theoretically degraded and/or abandoned urban spaces. However, analyzing its conceptualization and some practices carried out, which have been guided as urban revitalization, during this research study, we found an inconsistency. That is to say, the implementation of what is classified as urban revitalization are only interventions that aim to enhance certain areas of urban space.Este trabajo de investigación pretende contribuir al debate sobre una práctica recurrente a lo largo del desarrollo de la geografía, es decir, la discusión sobre las categorías, temas, términos y otras particularidades que forman parte del campo de investigación geográfica. En ese sentido, presentamos una discusión sobre los usos del término "revitalización urbana". Tal término es habitualmente utilizado por los expertos en la citada ciencia como sinónimo de una práctica de resurrección de espacios urbanos teóricamente degradados y/o abandonados. Sin embargo, analizando su conceptualización y algunas prácticas llevadas a cabo, y que fueron orientadas como revitalización urbana, se encontró durante esta investigación una inconsistencia. Resulta que la implementación de lo que se clasifica como revitalización urbana son, de hecho, sólo intervenciones cuyo objetivo es mejorar ciertas áreas del espacio urbano.Este artigo se propõe a dar continuidade a um fenômeno recorrente ao longo do desenvolvimento da ciência geográfica, que é a discussão a respeito de categorias, temas, termos e outras particularidades que compõem o campo de pesquisas da Geografia. Neste contexto, apresentamos um debate sobre os usos do termo “revitalização urbana”, este que rotineiramente é utilizado por estudiosos da supracitada ciência como sinônimo de um fenômeno de ressureição de espaços urbanos que teoricamente encontram-se degradados e/ou abandonados. Porém, analisando a sua conceituação e algumas práticas realizadas que foram pautadas como revitalizações urbanas, constatou-se durante a presente investigação a existência de uma inconsistência, de modo que, na realidade a execução daquilo que é classificado como revitalização urbana, na verdade são apenas intervenções que visam a valorização de determinados setores do espaço urbano.
