Long-memory stochastic volatility model calibration using deep neural nets
Widespread use of stochastic volatility models in the financial industry is bottlenecked by the complexity and intractability they present. Since the seminal work in quantitative finance by Black et al. and Merton, the infamous Black-Scholes model has been extensively used in the industry for vanilla and exotic option pricing. Although the model assumes constant volatility which is not observed in the market, the widespread use is sustained due to its closed-form solution for European vanilla option.
However, with the advent of neural networks, stochastic volatility models are becoming increasing tractable. The use of neural networks to learn the expectation function of the underlying stochastic volatility processes for calibration makes application of these more involved stochastic volatility models in the industrial settings practical. This thesis extends this application of neural networks to the calibration of long-memory stochastic volatility (LMSV) models, a class of stochastic volatility models characterized by fractional Brownian motion. The specific challenge with these long-memory models is that they are non-Markovian in nature and simulation can be time-consuming and costly. We show that by using neural networks we can capture these non-Markovian characteristics and quickly calibrate them to ever-evolving market conditions despite their high computational cost.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2023-05-01The student, Ahnaf Masroor, accepted the attached license on 2021-04-29 at 13:27.The student, Ahnaf Masroor, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2021-04-29 at 13:40.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2021-04-29 at 15:14.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #15881 on 2021-09-16 at 17:01:25Made available in DSpace on 2021-09-17T02:34:09Z (GMT). Exploring the User Needs and Experiences of Bangladeshi Smartphone Users
In this modern age, almost everybody uses smartphones, and users look for a smooth and pleasurable User Experience. In developing or underdeveloped countries, such as, Bangladesh, people do not earn a huge amount of money compared to the developed countries of Europe or North America, and most of the consumers will think a lot before buying a smartphone. So, these people do not have the capability of changing smartphones frequently, and they hope that a smartphone will last for a longer period of time and will provide them with an excellent User Experience. This was the motivating factor for conducting this research. In this research, the user needs and expectations of Bangladeshi smartphone users, whether their needs and expectations are fulfilled or not, and as a result, what kind of User Experience and satisfaction they are getting, etc. is investigated. By combining all of these aspects together, the goal of this research is to explore the user needs and experiences of Bangladeshi smartphone users.
In this research, data has been collected through user surveys from 11 Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in Bangladesh and 11 Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in developed countries. Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in developed countries have experience using both - smartphones that are available in Bangladesh, as well as smartphones that are available in developed countries. The reason for including Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in developed countries in this research is to understand if there are any notable differences between the user needs and expectations, challenges users are facing, and, as a result, what kind of User Experience and satisfaction, the users from both of these user groups are getting. The surveys were created with open ended questions and in a way that users can share their experiences with sufficient explanations. Qualitative data has been collected through the surveys. Thematic analysis has been used to analyse these qualitative data.
The findings show that, there are some similarities between the two user groups. For example, participants from both user groups use their smartphones to complete similar tasks. In addition, the types of issues they are facing, and their user needs and expectations are pretty much the same. However, Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in developed countries are facing fewer issues compared to Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in Bangladesh. Surprisingly enough, some issues are only faced by Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in Bangladesh. For example, “Green line on the display” issue. It was also being reported by one participant who is living in Bangladesh, that with every software update, the previous phone of the user became progressively slower. In addition, according to another participant who is living in Bangladesh, his expectation towards the smartphone is impacted by the smartphone price. Due to the cost, this participant has lower expectations and believes that he is receiving excellent value for his money when it comes to the service and the User Experience of his smartphone. Another interesting finding is, the previous smartphones that some Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in Bangladesh had used a few years ago, had offered a highly satisfying User Experience, and those phones had a five to eight years’ lifespan. Finally, even though some issues exist, as long as their smartphones provide good performance and other features function well, most of the Bangladeshi smartphone users who are living in Bangladesh consider that they are getting a good User Experience and they feel satisfied using their smartphones.
Very little research has been conducted in the underdeveloped or developing countries like Bangladesh to discover the user needs and experiences of the smartphone users. Even though this thesis has been conducted on a very small scale and the contribution of this thesis is very small, we assume that this research will help understanding the smartphone users of underdeveloped or developing countries like Bangladesh. Also, it will eventually improve our knowledge about user behaviour, motivate to maintain the highest standards in design, and finally will add these knowledges to the ongoing research of User Experience. We also expect that User Experience designers or smartphone manufacturing companies can get insights about user needs and expectations and, the overall User Experience and satisfaction that Bangladeshi smartphone users are getting from this research, and this research can also guide possible future researchers who would want to conduct this kind of research in any underdeveloped or developing countries in the future
MEMAHAMI KAIDAH USHULIYAH LUGHAWIYAH PERSPEKTIF TIORI AHNAF
The problem of innovation is a trigger factor in the religious disharmony, claims of truth occurs only on one side, and regard the other with false accusations and even accused as infidels. Heresy at the time still not Resolved, justruh become even more tapered and-so. They had perverted heretical propaganda through mass media like radio, fatwa commission, salebaran, and other writings, such accusations Surprisingly more precisely lead to the Expert Sunnah Wal Jama\u27ah. For that, it should be with the polemics of this kind needs be no specific response to concerns relating to issues that have been merasahkan and disrupt the comfort and harmony of religions, especially Islam in terms of legal analysis. The goal is that these problems can be solved by the decision of the best and can provide solutions that can diajalankan by the public, and can eliminate the unilateral truth of the allegations. Furthermore, to provide the best solution on the claims of heresy heresy, in society, the author gives an explanation which is very comprehensive in answering the issues around innovation with the proposition that qhat\u27i berlandasankan and accountable, in the form of al-Quran and Hadith-Hadith sahih, but it is also the author gives a real understanding of what it is heresy and Islamic attitudes in response to this polemic. Because the moment is now so easy to claim someone on charges of heresy that ultimately leads to infidelity.
The design of the study is a research library research (literature study) using the method of qualitative analysis with deductive and descriptive way of thinking. The results of this study, is to assert that not all innovations are prohibited, senayampang heresy has qhat\u27i cornerstone arguments. Even the heretics also be recommended by the Sunnah of the Prophet. In addition to the understanding of the hadith also straighten often used as a reference by those who say all heresies heresy, as well as provide an understanding of how to determine the proper position on the hadith, as well as introducing a method to determine the hadith in order to understand haidits with true understanding. Based on the results of this study, recommended for groups who claim to truth as Islamic fundamentalist and liberal Islam should not only understand the hadith of the literal aspect dhahirnya alone or, if a hadith is understood from the aspects dhahirnya will certainly experience a fatal error kerana pemahamn like it was just owned by someone who have an interest or based on lust
PERANCANGAN PROTOTYPE SISTEM INFORMASI PENDATAAN ASPIRASI MASYARAKAT MENGGUNAKAN PENDEKATAN DESIGN THINKING (STUDI KASUS: BAPPEDA KOTA MALANG)
Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Daerah (Bappeda) of Malang City is one of the government institutions that handles the aspirations of the community in the field of development. In its implementation, Bappeda Malang City faces challenges when dealing with community aspirations, such as collection, data recording, and categorization. Therefore, the author has designed a prototype of a community aspiration information system to address the issues faced by Bappeda Malang City. In their research, the author used a design thinking approach to tackle user issues and also using usability testing and the System Usability Scale (SUS) method for testing involving five respondents. Based on the user interviews, it was evident that Bappeda Malang City still using conventional methods in handling community aspirations, which consumes a significant amount of time. As a result of these findings, the author recommends a prototype solution with a final usability testing score is 97 with predicate high and an SUS score of 83, falling within the “acceptable” acceptability range. Furthermore, the prototype receives a grade ‘B’ on the grade scale and is rated as “excellent” in adjective ratings
An Unhealthy Buying Pattern of the Peoples of Bangladesh: A Case of Tobacco & Beverage
Bangladesh is a comparatively small country but a densely populated country that has attracted several big companies to come and run their business including carbonated drinks and tobacco. International beverage brands like coca-cola, Pepsi, etc., and tobacco brands like British American Tobacco, Philip Morris International, etc. are doing great business in Bangladesh alongside local brands. Even though for business, these products are a must but when it comes to health issues these are such products that affect physically greatly. Matter of consciousness comes when the consumer is giving preference to such products more than essential consumables that are seen in Bangladesh. The paper discusses the consumer behavior of Bangladeshi consumers in choosing products in terms of health benefits. The paper is an original work of the author and all the secondary data were taken are given credits properly
Art and hippiatrica in the Middle Ages
Our thesis consists in two volumes ; the first one deals with the iconographic study and the analysis of text/image relationships in the arabic hippiatric manuscripts Khalīl Āghā 8 and Fatīh 3608/3609. The first one entitled kitāb al-baïtara of Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Ahnaf is stored at Dār al-kutub in Cairo and is dated of 1209. The second one of the same title as the first one is neither signed nor dated. It is kept in the Libary of the Süleymaniye in Istanbul. We have attempted to study these two manuscripts, so richly decorated, to discover what are the characteristics that link them together and what aspects separate them and also whether they are from the same author or not. In the second volume of this thesis, we transcribed the copy of the Cairo manuscript on computer to make it more readable and we have then translated it to French in order to make it accessible to non-Arabic researchers
RELASI KUASA PENGETAHUAN DALAM TAFSIR SUFI MODERAT (SUFI ISYARI) (Studi Kitab Tafsir Lata’if al-Isyarat Karya al-Qusyairi)
Lat}a>’if al-Isya>ra>t muncul ketika perdebatan wacana terkait sikap asketisme terjadi antara Malamatiyyah dan Karramiyyah.
Analisis prinsip author menghasilkan kesimpulan bahw

Prototyping a Mobile Application Aimed to Streamline the Process of Preparing for Medical School Applications
abstract: Less than half of all premedical applicants get accepted into a medical school, 39.3% of applicants to be precise, and that statistic is based on the number of matriculants out of the total applicants in 2015. With such a discouraging acceptance rate, many students who start out as premed are often not towards the end of their undergraduate career and post-graduation because they do not feel prepared for medical school. It’s difficult for premed students to find all the information they need in one place rather than going from place to place or school website to school website. Additionally, it can be a hassle for premeds to keep track of all their coursework and calculate separate GPAs for each category especially due to how annoying Excel spread sheets can be. This is where the conceptualization of Premed Portfolio comes in. Premed Portfolio is a prototype mobile application. Premed Portfolio aims to streamline the process of preparing for medical school by guiding students to create a portfolio aimed to address the most important aspects of a medical school application. Students will be able to keep track of their cumulative GPA, BCPM (also known as science/math) GPA, MCAT Scores, prerequisite coursework and many more targeted areas of medical school. Premed Portfolio will also hope to use the stats that students provide and educate them on their chances of getting into medical school
