Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ
The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is
B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd),
where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5.
The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be
ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%.
Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations
Microstructure and strength modelling of Al-Cu-Mg alloys during non-isothermal treatments: part 1 – controlled heating and cooling
A model is developed to predict the precipitation kinetics and strengthening in Al Cu Mg alloys during non-isothermal treatments consisting of controlled heating and cooling. The prediction of the precipitation kinetics is based on the Kampmann and Wagner model. The precipitation strengthening by the shearable Cu:Mg co clusters is modelled on the basis of the modulus strengthening mechanism and the strengthening by the non-shearable S phase precipitates is based on the Orowan looping mechanism. The model predictions are verified by comparing with hardness, transmission electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry data on 2024-T351 aluminium alloys. The microstructural development and strength predictions of the model are generally in close agreement with the experimental data
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Numerical assessment of gas production potential via depressurization: Impact of production interval and bottom hole pressure at site NGHP-01-10D of the Krishna-Godavari Basin hydrate reservoir
The National Gas Hydrate Program expeditions (NGHP-01 and-02) have conclusively proven the presence of hydrate deposits on the eastern coast of India. The novelty of the present study lies in its investigation of the richest gas hydrate deposit (hydrate saturation [Sh] > 0.75), NGHP-01-10D, in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin, India. The study presents a first look at the long-term gas production viability using a single vertical well, subjected to variations in production interval and bottom hole pressure. Specifically, we compared the gas production at bottom hole pressures of 3-6 MPa and production intervals of 20-40 m. The results indicate production rates that are technically feasible but lower than commercially acceptable standards. Increasing the bottom hole pressure drawdown from 6 MPa to 3 MPa increased the gas production from 1297 m(3)/d to 4902 m(3)/d (i.e., more than tripling the average daily gas production). Meanwhile, while expanding the production interval from 20 m to 40 m led to an increase in gas production, it also resulted in higher water production. As a result, the average gas-to-water ratio (R-GW) decreased from 9.5 to 5.3 with the expansion of the production interval, thereby highlighting the need to optimize the interval length. Furthermore, the spatial evolution of certain thermodynamic parameters, including pressure, temperature, and phase saturation (methane, water, and hydrate), underscores the critical role of heat transfer from the UB. Our study findings offer valuable insights for long-term production forecasting, the delineation of phase evolution patterns, and the identification of potential flow barriers that may impede deliverability. Bielefeld (Germany): Bielefeld University; 2011.The experiments described in this thesis relate to the recently emerging and rapidly growing field of spin electronics or spintronics. This area of study allies electronics and magnetism. It uses the spin of the electron to obtain new proporties or functions. These developments concern a new type of non-volatile memories. In contrast, conventional electronics is based on the use of an electric field to act on the charge of electrons. The electronic spin gives rise to the magnetism of solids, but also provides a means to influence the electrons by a magnetic field. Thus, in ferromagnetic (FM) materials, the motion of an electron depends on its spin orientation with respect to local magnetization. This gives rise to interesting new effects to the field of spintronics.
Spintronic effects occur on a length scale in which spin is conserved, called the spin diffusion length, which is of the order of a few nanometers. Another milestone in the spintronic was the observation of the tunnel magnetoresistance effect in magnetic tunnel junctions which have a thin layer of an insulating material sandwich between two FM materials. The dielectric reliability of the insulating layer is a major reliability concern in spintronic devices. Currently, the understanding of materials, physics, and reliability at the ano, or atomic, level is vital to the proper design and manufacturing of these devices

Evidence for the decay B0→J/ψω and measurement of the relative branching fractions of meson decays to J/ψη and J/ψη′
First evidence of the B 0 → J / ψ ω decay is found and the B s 0 → J / ψ η and B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ decays are studied using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb -1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0 decay:frac(B (B 0 → J / ψ ω), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 0.89 ± 0.19 (stat) - 0.13 + 0.07 (syst),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 14.0 ± 1.2 (stat) - 1.5 + 1.1 (syst) - 1.0 + 1.1 (frac(f d, f s)),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 12.7 ± 1.1 (stat) - 1.3 + 0.5 (syst) - 0.9 + 1.0 (frac(f d, f s)), where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of f d / f s, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of B 0 and B s 0 mesons. The ratio of the branching fractions of B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ and B s 0 → J / ψ η decays is measured to befrac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B s 0 → J / ψ η)) = 0.90 ± 0.09 (stat) - 0.02 + 0.06 (syst)
