Very fragrant silence - reflections on the novel "La lunga vita di Marianna Ucrìa" by Dacia Maraini
The article devoted to novel La lunga vita di Marianna Ucrìa of Dacia Maraini constitutes a
reflection upon cognition by means of senses. The analysis concerns the experience of
cognition of the world (people, situations, places) by the main character, deaf and dumb
person, whose sensual cognition of the reality is dominated by the sense of sight and smell.
The analysis concentrates on the character of smelling sensations, indicating their crucial but
forgotten function of the contact with the reality and its interpretation. The article highlights
the problem of non verbality and non-divisibility of perceptions of the sense of smell, which
the author of the novel Dacia Maraini faced
Ne consegue l’abolizione del distacco prospettico dell’autore e una sua immersione nel flusso del raccontoWhat is a life if it is not told ? Temporal framework in La lunga attesa dell’angelo by Melania Mazzucco · La lunga attesa dell’angelo is the fictional revisiting of Jacomo Robusti’s life, known as Tintoretto, and of his daughter Marietta, known as Tintoretta, who was a real myth in the Nineteenth century. The story strikes a felicitous balance between fantasy and meticulous documentation work carried out by Melania Mazzucco on ancient papers contained in archives of different cities. The individual history of Tintoretto is part of a collective epos, thus outlining a Sixteenth-century Venetian generational fresco. It is a choral novel in which voices and behaviors intertwine, giving the narration a multi-focused form through the adoption of the different characters’ points of view. To these characters, an author who moves the threads of narration is added. Indeed, Mazzucco often resets herself in her own object (Tintoretto) to the extent that they often merge into a single subjectivity. As a consequence, the detachment of the author’s perspective is abolished and we assist to her immersion in the flow of the stor
The essay examines Vittore Branca’s handwritten annotations to Antonia Tissoni Benvenuti’s critical edition of Poliziano’s Orfeo, bringing to light an intense hermeneutic and philological engagement with the poet’s vernacular work. Through a close analysis of these marginalia, the author reconstructs Branca’s critical stance, particularly regarding the controversial dating of the Fabula d’Orpheo, which he situates around 1480. The annotations also reveal his interest in the anti-Platonic interpretation of the myth and in the numerous intertextual references to Dante, Petrarch, and Poliziano’s own vernacular production. This practice of annotation testifies to a “long fidelity” of intellectual commitment, culminating in the monograph Poliziano e l’umanesimo della parola, and constitutes a valuable document of Branca’s critical method, poised between philological erudition and hermeneutic insight
The monument dedicated to Giuseppe Mazzini, sculpted by Ettore Ferrari, had a long political and executive genesis that stretched from the end of the 19th century until its inauguration in 1949. Ferrari was also the author of the monument to Giordano Bruno in Campo de’ Fiori square, which was also the subject of much controversy. However, in the case of the Mazzini monument, an extensive political discussion emerged, involving prominent figures such as Francesco Crispi, Antonio Labriola, and Domenico Farini. In particular, Labriola’s influence was decisive for the political symbolism that populates the monument’s base. This symbolism was “censored” after World War II to be less displeasing to the Holy See.Il monumento dedicato a Giuseppe Mazzini scolpito da Ettore Ferrari ebbe luna lunga genesi politica ed esecutiva che dalla fine dell’Ottocento si protrasse fino alla sua inaugurazione nel 1949.

The misuse of power by church wardens : a challenge to pastoral care
Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2011.This research seeks to reveal the misuse of power by some church wardens, who are in the upper echelon in the parish leadership of the Anglican Church, in the diocese of Mthatha. It also seeks to reveal that as a result of this power abuse, the clergy as well as parishioners who voted these church wardens into the parish administration suffer trauma. There are also ensuing results manifested by cracks and crevices that are created in the Anglican Church, which are signs of an unhealthy church. In the endeavour to achieve his purpose, the author has embarked in conducting a research, with affected parties. Firstly, he encounters his own experiences as an incumbent of a parish. Then he approaches a parishioner who was aspiring to be admitted into the ordained ministry of the church who suffered at the hands of the churchwardens. Lastly, he approaches an ordained minister who was an incumbent of a parish who also received ill-treatment at the hands of churchwardens, as well as other clergy of various parishes whose stories could not be accommodated in this exercise because of space. Having established that the church wardens did misuse power and exceeded their terms of reference in the exercise of their duties as shepherds of the flock of God, he embarks on devising ways to come up with positive remedies of healing this incompetent administration of lay church officials. Firstly, he seeks to curb the power the church wardens assume to have. Then he draws a church of his dreams, a healthy church, led by healthy church leaders who are not lords over God’s flock but who pastorally take care of them, and leaders who are not corrupted by power, but always conscious of the fact that they are the servants of God. This exercise demonstrates that abuse of power in any church has disastrous effects and perpetrators should be stopped, if the church which is endowed with propagating the Gospel, wishes to be effective in its mission.Practical Theologyunrestricte
