This paper aims to reveal the historical background of the emergence of traditions and ceremonies memayu and ider - ideran Trusmi, and the reason why the tradition still survives and sustainable amid modern society has today. To discuss both the subject matter, the author uses the theory of functionalism Bronislow Malinowski. Data were collected through observations, interviews and documentation. The approach used is qualitative method. From the results of this study found that Trusmi name is formed from two words, which continues and spring means constantly growing. The origins of this name originated from the story of Ki Gede Bambangan who was sitting in front of his cabin after cleaning the yard of grass. Suddenly there are greetings that do not know exactly where it comes from that voice. Then miraculously suddenly all the grass and weeds that had already cleared it grows back so pruning becomes useless. When he looked around with astonishment mingled irritation, suddenly, two men are walking towards him while greeting, "Assalamu" Sounds Sapan was apparently derived from the prince Cakra Buana and Sunan Gunung Jati. Ultimately stems from the peristiwa Ki Gede Bambangaan embraced Islam andis called Trusmi area. That is an area where the grass is constantly growing back. Special on Trusmi Mosque, memayu ceremony performed to replace the roof of the mosque which was made of welit as tiled and wood as their frames. Welit replacement was performed in preparation for the change of seasons from the dry to the rainy season. One year as a number welit periodic replacement. Furthermore memayu also serve as a means for society as earth alms - area three to start the season. The hope someday to give blessings and harvest will be successful. Regardless of people\u27s beliefs about memayu , this rite is an expression of ingratitude given God Almighty . Therefore it can be concluded that the tradition memayu and ider - ideran Trusmi village is a series of sacred rituals which also includes the values of culture that to this day is still preserved by the Cirebon people, especially the villagers Trusmi

John Gay's the beggar's opera: early eighteenth-century responses in the arts to cultural, sociological and political issues in London life

    No full text
Differing responses in art media to these contemporary issues of London life are explored, taking John Gay's the Beggar's Opera as the focal point for discussion. Initially, a general survey is made of Gay's role as cultural, social and moral critic. Comparison with George Frederick Handel's Floridante allows Gay's work to be placed in the context of operatic responses to contemporary society, highlighting usage both of overt portrayal and indirect satire. Gay's approach to political issues is examined alongside that of Dean Swift's Gulliver's Travels enabling an estimation to be made of the effectiveness of these art media as tools of political propaganda. Similarly, responses in the field of painting are discussed in the light of representative works of James Thornhill and William Hogarth's A Harlot's Progress and A Rake's Progress. In considering all these responses it is noted that art can be interpreted at differing levels, from the sophisticated to the naive. All these art media are then placed in the context of artistic philosophy of the period, thus facilitating an objective assessment of the parallels and differences of art's responses to contemporary issues. Taking into account inherent limitations in the media, to conclude our study, Hogarth's The Beggar's Opera Scenes are compared and contrasted with Gay's prototype. The thesis highlights the trend towards realism in the arts during this period. Nevertheless, we are left with the conundrum that art, 'per se', can only 'mirror' life. It does not necessarily solve its problems. Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Music. University of Durham Department of Music 198

The Educational Analysis of Te'dib-name by Kesfi

    No full text
Throughout the history of mankind, humans have always desired to share their experience and knowledge with the current and later generations, and also to guide them to goodness. Advices emerged from this desire, sometimes presented in a direct verbal form, and sometimes it took a literary form by being written in an artistic way. These works turned into one of the most common literary genres in Turkish literature, and were created in poetic, prosaic and poetic-prosaic forms. As the poem makes it easier to learn and memorize, the poetic form was used commonly. These works named as poetic nasihat-name aimed to educate the society in moral, religious and social matters. Authors benefited from the educational aspect of legends and stories in their works, and decorated them with the verses of Koran, the sayings of Prophet Mohammed, the apothegms, the proverbs, and the idioms. The poetic nasihat-names had significant educational value, containing advices on many subjects on pedagogy, character and religious education. Nasihat-names have been the common interests of literature and education disciplines. In this study, the educational analysis of Te'dib-name, which is a poetic nasihat-name, is presented. The author of the work is Kesfi, one of the 16th century poets. In this period, a few poets used the pen name of Kesfi. However, the author of Te'dib-name differs from the others as he had a son named Ata. Ata is the instrumental person in the emergence of Te'dib-name. Because it was written for Ata, as he requested his father to write a book containing advices from the age 10 to 100. This situation clearly shows that Te'dib-name is a work written by a father to educate his son. Therefore, Te'dib-name reveals educational and philosophical understanding of Kesfi. In this study analysing Te'dib-name in educational way, the author Kesfi's life, his literary character and his works are presented and Te'dib-name is introduced by its general characteristics. During the content analysis of the work, a master thesis named Kesfi Te'dib- name written by Sibel Ust at Ataturk University, Social Sciences Institute in 2006 was benefited from. The original copy of the work recorded by the number 271 ASL, in the Ataturk University Seyfettin Ozege Library, Agah Sirri Levend Collection, was consulted for some words difficult to pronounce. The study consists of three sections: the educational view of Kesfi, his language of education and the content of Te'dib-name. The educational view of the author is classified and discussed as Belief and Sense-Based Education, Need-Based Education and Lifelong Education. Kesfi's language of education is analysed in terms of his addressing style to his son, characteristics of his language and expression, and also educational elements in the content. The content of Te'dib-name covers a lifelong education, and advices are presented in periods of five or ten years. Thus, in accordance with the work, the relevant advices are categorized as Last Childhood, Puberty, First Adulthood, Middle Adulthood and Late Adulthood, and examined according to their developmental periods. Te'dib-name, conforming to Islamic educational view in both pedagogical and andragogical aspects, aims to educate members of the society in spite of addressing only the author's son. The work reveals many advices about religious life as well as familial and social life. While discussing the content, it has been realized that the educational matters of that period are similar to current ones. The advices in the work, as a guidebook making the individual happier both in this world and the hereafter, have the features illuminating the current educational understanding

    Designing organizations in the CCI

Drastic cuts in government budgets will force cultural organizations to reconsider their position by initiating internal discussions on how to avert the risk of these cuts. In order to avoid gradual withering of their proposition, cultural organizations will increasingly search for new organizational constellations with new business models. Converting the cultural organization into a hybrid organization combining cultural as well as business values, is one of the options and a major challenge. There seems to be pressure on preserving the cultural values that belong to the artistic core. This paper investigates the application of the IDER-model, that combines design thinking and design related implementation theories that take the potential conflicting value systems into account as well as a focus on the subsequent realization of associated organizational changes. An additional challenge is to realize the new structure in a way that it stays flexible as were it of a prototypical nature. Based on this theoretical discussion the paper proposes an agenda for future research to generalise our findings. The model explicated in the paper relates to the fundamental choices underlying the adaption to external changes through hybridization.Product Innovation ManagementIndustrial Design Engineerin

Comparative analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis pe and ppe genes reveals high sequence variation and an apparent absence of selective constraints.

Contains fulltext : 110619.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) genomes contain 2 large gene families termed pe and ppe. The function of pe/ppe proteins remains enigmatic but studies suggest that they are secreted or cell surface associated and are involved in bacterial virulence. Previous studies have also shown that some pe/ppe genes are polymorphic, a finding that suggests involvement in antigenic variation. Using comparative sequence analysis of 18 publicly available MTBC whole genome sequences, we have performed alignments of 33 pe (excluding pe_pgrs) and 66 ppe genes in order to detect the frequency and nature of genetic variation. This work has been supplemented by whole gene sequencing of 14 pe/ppe (including 5 pe_pgrs) genes in a cohort of 40 diverse and well defined clinical isolates covering all the main lineages of the M. tuberculosis phylogenetic tree. We show that nsSNP's in pe (excluding pgrs) and ppe genes are 3.0 and 3.3 times higher than in non-pe/ppe genes respectively and that numerous other mutation types are also present at a high frequency. It has previously been shown that non-pe/ppe M. tuberculosis genes display a remarkably low level of purifying selection. Here, we also show that compared to these genes those of the pe/ppe families show a further reduction of selection pressure that suggests neutral evolution. This is inconsistent with the positive selection pressure of "classical" antigenic variation. Finally, by analyzing such a large number of genes we were able to detect large differences in mutation type and frequency between both individual genes and gene sub-families. The high variation rates and absence of selective constraints provides valuable insights into potential pe/ppe function. Since pe/ppe proteins are highly antigenic and have been studied as potential vaccine components these results should also prove informative for aspects of M. tuberculosis vaccine design

    Clustering of CODEX clusters

    No full text
Context. The clustering of galaxy clusters links the spatial nonuniformity of dark matter halos to the growth of the primordial spectrum of perturbations. The amplitude of the clustering signal is widely used to estimate the halo mass of astrophysical objects. The advent of cluster mass calibrations enables using clustering in cosmological studies. Aims. We analyze the autocorrelation function of a large contiguous sample of galaxy clusters, the Constrain Dark Energy with X-ray (CODEX) sample, in which we take particular care of cluster definition. These clusters were X-ray selected using the ROentgen SATellite All-Sky Survey and then identified as galaxy clusters using the code redMaPPer run on the photometry of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We develop methods for precisely accounting for the sample selection effects on the clustering and demonstrate their robustness using numerical simulations. Methods. Using the clean CODEX sample, which was obtained by applying a redshift-dependent richness selection, we computed the two-point autocorrelation function of galaxy clusters in the 0.1 < z < 0.3 and 0.3 < z < 0.5 redshift bins. We compared the bias in the measured correlation function with values obtained in numerical simulations using a similar cluster mass range. Results. By fitting a power law, we measured a correlation length r0 = 18.7 ± 1.1 and slope γ = 1.98 ± 0.14 for the correlation function in the full redshift range. By fixing the other cosmological parameters to their nine-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe values, we reproduced the observed shape of the correlation function under the following cosmological conditions: Ωm0=0.220.03+0.04 {\Omega_{\text{m}_{0}}}=0.22^{+0.04}_{-0.03} and S8=σ8(Ωm0/0.3)0.5=0.850.08+0.10 S_8=\sigma_8 ({\Omega_{\text{m}_{0}}}/0.3)^{0.5}=0.85^{+0.10}_{-0.08} with estimated additional systematic errors of σΩm0 = 0.02 and σS8 = 0.20. We illustrate the complementarity of clustering constraints by combining them with CODEX cosmological constraints based on the X-ray luminosity function, deriving Ωm0 = 0.25 ± 0.01 and σ8=0.810.02+0.01 \sigma_8 = 0.81^{+0.01}_{-0.02} with an estimated additional systematic error of σΩm0 = 0.07 and σσ8 = 0.04. The mass calibration and statistical quality of the mass tracers are the dominant source of uncertainty
