Measurement of the ratio of prompt χ c to J / ψ production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
No full textThe prompt production of charmonium χ c and J / ψ states is studied in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. The χ c and J / ψ mesons are identified through their decays χ c → J / ψ γ and J / ψ → μ + μ - using 36 pb - 1 of data collected by the LHCb detector in 2010. The ratio of the prompt production cross-sections for χ c and J / ψ, σ (χ c → J / ψ γ) / σ (J / ψ), is determined as a function of the J / ψ transverse momentum in the range 2 < p T J / ψ < 15 GeV / c. The results are in excellent agreement with next-to-leading order non-relativistic expectations and show a significant discrepancy compared with the colour singlet model prediction at leading order, especially in the low p T J / ψ region

Impact of social care on Hospital Admissions in a sample of community-dwelling older adults: Results of a quasiexperimental study
No full textTIntroduction. The paper describes the impact on Hospital Admissions of a program targeting the communitydwelling older citizens with social interventions aimed at managing frailty and reducing social isolation. Study design. The study is quasi-experimental intervention program Methods. A randomized sample made up by 207 participants (cases) to the Long Live the Elderly program is compared with a cohort of 308 older adults (controls) followed up since 2014 by the University of Tor Vergata. At the enrolment all the participants have been administered a multidimensional questionnaire to assess frailty. After six months, the two groups are compared for the inpatient's admission rate. Results. The percentage of patients who was admitted to the hospital during the first six month of follow up was 9.1% and 8.3% among the controls and the cases respectively. The inpatient's admission rate was higher among the controls (251.6 per 1000 observation/year) than for the cases (167.3). Despite the cases were older than the controls (mean age 83.5, SD±8.1 vs 76.7, SD±7.1; p=0.001), showed a lower percentage of frail/very frail individuals (29.5% vs 33.4%). The multivariate linear regression adjusted for gender, age and frailty showed a reduction of the hospital admission rate associated to the Long Live the Elderly program (p=0.013). Conclusion. The study suggests the impact on the reduction of acute hospital admission in the first six months of follow up, of a Community-based Program aimed at increasing the social capital of older adults. Further studies with longer follow up are needed to confirm the study results in order to support the hypothesis that the future sustainability of health systems is partially linked to the increase of the social component of community care service

No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Transition to turbulence in a qblique shock-wave/boundary-layer interaction at M=15
No full textDirect numerical simulations are carried out for different forcing techniques to trigger transition during the interaction between an oblique shock-wave and a laminar boundary-layer at M = 1.5. Three forcing methods are used: a) forcing of oblique unstable modes, whose shape and behaviour are determined by the local linear stability theory, b) broadband free-stream acoustic disturbances, and c) a cold plasma flow control device. While the oblique-mode breakdown is dominant for low-amplitude forcing, long streaky structures drive the transition process in a high-amplitude disturbance environment. LES are also performed on the experimental setup by the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM) from Novosibirsk State University with cold plasma actuation. As well as the disturbance type, the effect of Reynolds number and forcing amplitude will be investigated

Toby delivered a lecture on the games industry in which he directed attention both to the production cycle of games hardware and software, and to the historical context of moral panics about new media, where games can be viewed as the latest in a long line of new media to generate anxiety within a culture.\ud
