Sangpradub, 2 females (KKU). Diagnosis. Male (Fig. 1E): Size: 15.0–17.0 mm. Body form broadly oval; apex of flagellomere VI darkly colored, black; elytral apices without parasutural spines, epipleural spines and serrations absent (Fig. 5F), elytral apex rounded (Fig. 1E); lateral margin of pronotum and elytron darkly colored, black; protrochanter apically without setae on ventral surface (Fig. 4B); profemur with sub-apicoventral tooth; protibia club-shaped; venter reddish to brown (Fig. 1I); epipleura reddish to black (Fig. 1I); aedeagus (Figs. 5G–H) with median lobe shorter than parameres, parallel-sided for 3/4 length, narrowed in apical 1/5, apex triangular, curved dorsally in lateral view. Female: Similar to male except for size: 13.4–15.7 mm; apex of flagellomere VI lightly colored, orange; profemur without sub-apicoventral tooth; gonocoxae elongate, lateral margins slightly rounded and expanded, apex rounded (Fig. 5I). Differential diagnosis. Dineutus sitesi can be distinguished from all other congeners in Thailand by the broadly oval body form, large size, rounded elytral apex lacking spines and serrations, and males with a sub-apicoventral profemoral tooth. Distribution. This species is known only from Thailand where it was described from Phu Hin Rongkla National Park, Phitsanulok Province (Gustafson et al. 2016). Habitat. This species occurs in streams and pools beneath waterfalls (Fig. 7D) (Gustafson et al. 2016). Discussion. In this study, D. sitesi was found at the same localities in Phu Hin Rongkla National Park as previously reported by Gustafson et al. (2016). Additionally, we found this species in another stream within the same mountain range (Phetchabun Mountains) at Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, Phitsanulok Province at an elevation of 894 m a.s.l. D. sitesi was also collected from a stream in the Tenasserim Hills at Thong Pha Phum National Park, Kanchanaburi Province at an elevation of 270 m a.s.l. (Fig. 8A).     Evaluating the pronunciation component of text-to-speech systems for English: A performance comparison of different approaches

    The automatic derivation of word pronunciations from input text is a central task for any text-to-speech system. For general English text at least, this is often thought to be a solved problem, with manually-derived linguistic rules assumed capable of handling `novel' words missing from the system dictionary. Data-driven methods, based on machine learning of the regularities implicit in a large pronouncing dictionary, have received considerable attention recently but are generally thought to perform less well. However, these tentative beliefs are at best uncertain without powerful methods for comparing text-to-phoneme subsystems. This paper contributes to the development of such methods by comparing the performance of four representative approaches to automatic phonemisation on the same test dictionary. As well as rule-based approaches, three data-driven techniques are evaluated: pronunciation by analogy (PbA), NETspeak and IB1-IG (a modified k-nearest neighbour method). Issues involved in comparative evaluation are detailed and elucidated. The data-driven techniques outperform rules in accuracy of letter-to-phoneme translation by a very significant margin but require aligned text-phoneme training data and are slower. Best translation results are obtained with PbA at approximately 72% words correct on a reasonably large pronouncing dictionary, compared to something like 26% words correct for the rules, indicating that automatic pronunciation of text is not a solved problem

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    A novel variant in CMAH is associated with blood type AB in Ragdoll cats

Plos One, 11(5). doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0154973The enzyme cytidine monophospho-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase is associated with the production of sialic acids on cat red blood cells. The cat has one major blood group with three serotypes; the most common blood type A being dominant to type B. A third rare blood type is known as AB and has an unclear mode of inheritance. Cat blood type antigens are defined, with N-glycolylneuraminic acid being associated with type A and N-acetylneuraminic acid with type B. Blood type AB is serologically characterized by agglutination using typing reagents directed against both A and B epitopes. While a genetic characterization of blood type B has been achieved, the rare type AB serotype remains genetically uncharacterized. A genome-wide association study in Ragdoll cats (22 cases and 15 controls) detected a significant association between blood type AB and SNPs on cat chromosome B2, with the most highly associated SNP being at position 4,487,432 near the candidate gene cytidine monophospho-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase. A novel variant, c.364C>T, was identified that is highly associated with blood type AB in Ragdoll cats and, to a lesser degree, with type AB in random bred cats. The newly identified variant is probably linked with blood type AB in Ragdoll cats, and is associated with the expression of both antigens (N-glycolylneuraminic acid and N-acetylneuraminic acid) on the red blood cell membrane. Other variants, not identified by this work, are likely to be associated with blood type AB in other breeds of cat. © 2016 Gandolfi et al.     Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ

    The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5. The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%. Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations
