Är eutanasi en bra lösning i terminalvården? : en litteraturöversikt om eutanasi

No full text
Euthanasia is a very discussed topic in the world and every country has its own euthanasia debate if it should be legal with euthanasia or not. A few countries have already legal euthanasia, but most countries have for the time being illegal euthanasia. Many countries would have to have a legalization of euthanasia, especially in terminal care where the human being may be suffering the most. The aim of this paper is to find out different attitudes among care givers, patients and overall in the community in Europe. It’s important to have a good understanding for what euthanasia really is about and understand the cause behind why euthanasia is not legal in some countries. To bring up attitudes towards euthanasia in those groups constitutes a basis for more understanding among the expectations that the patients, community have and the possibility to realizations there is among the care givers. method that has been used is a scoping review. The material that has been used is science-based articles to find out the purpose. 15 science-based articles have been selected and analyzed and then used in the result. The result showed that it is much divided in east and west Europe, age, work experience, the law in the country and religion. Older generation were more against euthanasia than the younger generation and the euthanasia countries were more located in the west, and west Europe had a more liberal sight at euthanasia than East Europe. This has to do with that religion is much stronger in east Europe than west Europe. The religion has a big impact on the result. The participants with a religious background didn’t want anything to do with euthanasia and caregivers with a religious background didn’t want to participate in the euthanasia process. The conclusion of the work was that the respondent got the purpose of the work answered and that the result was rather evenly distributed throughout the work, so it was very hard to say if Europe is more positive than negative towards euthanasia. Every country has its own debate rather euthanasia should be legal or illegal

Peter Forsgren, Departement of Film and Literature, Linnaeus University “do you give me permission to write a novel about you?”: Elin Wägner’s Unmasked – Secretive and the women writers’ Bildungsroman (“ger du mig lov att skriva en roman om dig?” Elin Wägners Genomskådad – Hemlighetsfull och den kvinnliga bildningsromanen) This article analyzes Elin Wägner’s autobiographical twin novel Genomskådad—Hemlighetsfull (Unmasked—Secretive), published 1937–38, by placing it in the tradition of women writers’ Bildungsroman. The aim of the author was to describe her own development as a feminist from the early 20th century to the 1930’s and at the same time the history of women liberation movement during the same period. In contrast to the traditional Bildungsroman and the ideal of harmony between the hero and the society in the end, the women writers’ Bildungsroman explores the injustices of the patriarchal society and at the same time the need for a new kind of society that brings women freedom and possibilities to develop themselves, something that gives these novels utopian qualities. As the analysis shows, the character Ethel bears many similarities with the young Elin Wägner, while the main character and narrator, Agnes, who is radicalized by World War I, step by step develops a feminism that the author embraced by the time the twin novel was written. This was a feminism inspired by ideas of matriarchy which underlined the importance of peace, not only between nations but also between man and nature. A third part of this autobiographical Bildungsroman was planned, but instead Elin Wägner wrote Väckarklocka (Alarm Clock), published 1941. This book became the author’s testament and in it she discusses the three main themes in her authorship: women, peace and the environment. In Väckarklocka Elin Wägner speaks with a strong personal voice in the manner defined by Susan Snaider Lanser, and the twin novel can be read as a story about how this voice was developed and why

Interrogating Atherosclerotic Plaque Biology Through Responses to Cardiovascular Risk Management and Imaging

No full text
Atherosclerosis causes more deaths than any other disease worldwide, and the cause of death is most commonly a rupture of a vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque, resulting in a thrombotic event in the heart or brain. The major risk factors for plaque progression are well known, but all the mechanisms that drive atherosclerotic plaques towards catastrophic events are not yet fully elucidated. This thesis revolves around the atherosclerotic plaque; how plaques can be analysed using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and the study of biological responses to cardiovascular risk management. In Study I we interrogated the quality of cardiovascular risk management in patients diagnosed with high-grade carotid stenosis and found that cardiovascular risk management was deficient in all aspects, despite the very high risk for events in these patients. Thus, we designed the next two studies to address the unmet clinical need for improved cardiovascular risk management in patients with carotid atherosclerosis while at the same time asking mechanistic questions about the effect of this approach on lymphocyte phenotypes (Study II) and on plaque composition (Study III). In Study II, the effect of cardiovascular risk management on Natural Killer cell, Natural Killer T cell and T lymphocyte subpopulations were studied in patients with carotid atherosclerosis. Our results show a polarisation away from a senescent phenotype towards more naïve i.e., juvenile cell types suggesting a transition towards a possibly less pro-inflammatory lymphocyte profile. In Study III, we applied a newly developed quantitative Dixon MRI technique to the quantification of lipid rich necrotic core and hemorrhage inside atherosclerotic plaques. Employing this technique, we explored the relationships between these high-risk plaque compositional features and circulating lipoproteins as they changed over time in response to cardiovascular risk management. In the current study there was no evidence for such a linear relationship. To further study the associations between inflammation and quantitative plaque measurements we explored in Study IV the relationship between inflammation in atherosclerotic plaques as measured by 18F-FDG uptake and features of high-risk plaque as measured by quantitative Dixon MRI. To facilitate the use of carotid MRI in larger cohorts we developed in Study V a technique for the segmentation of the carotid artery using supervised machine learning. Taken together these studies describe the importance of cardiovascular risk management, the complexity of atherosclerotic plaque biology and they propose new strategies for quantitative plaque imaging.

EVALUATION OF THE CRYOTOLERANCE OF SPERMATOZOA IN SOFIA (ELIN-PELIN) SHEEP BREED

No full text
The Sofia (Elin-Pelin) breed is a local Bulgarian breed with a reduced population and poorly studied possibilities for cryotolerance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of cryopreservation on sperm parameters – total motility (TM), velocity parameters and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels. Sperm motility and velocity parameters were examined by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA). LPO levels were determined spectrophotometrically. As a result, we found a decrease in sperm TM after thawing from 99.01±0.68% to 71.92±5.12%, which is acceptable for artificial insemination and a slight increase in LPO levels from 0.86±0.23 nmoles MDA/10x106 sp. to 1.44±0.37 nmoles MDA/10x106 sp. after thawing. In conclusion from the conducted studies sperm from the Sofia (Elin-Pelin) breed showed good cryotolerance with a low percentage of damage after thawing, with which we believe that cryopreservation would be a suitable method for breeding and preserving this breed

Sammanfattning Titel: Motstånd i förändringsprocesser. Abstract Titel: Resistance in change processes. A study on organizational influencing factors Level: Bachelor's thesis Author: Elin Pajuvirta and Elin Yttersted Supervisor: Svante Brunåker Date: 2024-January Aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate how the organizational factors may affect employees' propensity to not want to accept and participate in change processes. Method: The study is based on a qualitative research method with an abductive approach. The empirical material has been collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 respondents. The object of study is an organization in healthcare staffing, which in 2022 underwent a company acquisition, which is the study's investigated change process. Result & conclusion: The results of the study show that organizational factors such as leadership, corporate culture and communication have an impact on employees' willingness to change. Through open communication, the organization has been more successful in implementing changes. At the same time, the study finds that the employees are motivated to the change process in an open corporate culture where the leaders focus on making the employees participate in the change. Employees are more likely to accept and participate in the change process when there is an interaction between the organizational factors: corporate culture, leadership and communication.Corporate culture, leadership and communication can be used as a tool for organizations to motivate employees if resistance exists.Resistance should be considered as a tool for organizations to improve the process by observing the challenges that arise in connection with change processes. Contribution of the thesis: The study contributes with an understanding of the fact that resistance is a necessary phenomenon that organizations should not strive to eliminate completely. Suggestions for future research: The conclusion of the study is that organizational factors such as corporate culture and leadership are important for organizations to successfully implement changes. Where communication, as an organizational factor, has a greater role in ensuring that the implementation of the change process does not fail. A further conclusion is that corporate culture, leadership and communication can be used as a tool for organizations to motivate employees if resistance exists. How can a nurse maintain good nutritional status in Date: 20.05.2022 cancer patients with radiation injuries in the head and neck region? Authors: Candidate number 1: 10095 – Mathilde Gjerde Candidate number 2: 10022 – Helene Holt Pettersen Candidate number 3: 10016 – Henriette Borger Supervisor: Elin Stikbakke Keywords: Nutrition, Radiotherapy, Nurse, Side effects, Head and Neck Cancer. Number of pages/words: 50/10883 Number of appendix: 0 Short description of the bachelor thesis: Background: In 2020, there were 686 new cases of head and neck cancer in Norway. These patients are often treated with radiotherapy. The side effects occur when the radiation hits normal tissue. These side effects can lead to major nutritional problems and thus adversely affect nutritional status. In order to take care of nutrition in this patient group, knowledge and cooperation from several professional groups is required, in which the nurse has a central role. Purpose: To illuminate how nurses can take care of the need for nutrition in cancer patients with radiation damage in head and neck cancer. Methods: Seven quantitative and qualitative scientific articles were included through a structured search in the databases Medline (Ovid), Cinahl (Ebsco) and Embase (Ovid). The search criteria were: Radiotherapy, Nutrition, Head and Neck Neoplasms and Treatment Outcome. In this literature study, Aveyards (2019) thematic analysis is used to analyze the results. Result: Four main themes were identified: 1) Factors affecting nutritional status, 2) Symptom relief, 3) Nurses guiding role and 4) Administration of enteral nutrition. Conclusion: The literature study concludes that there are several measures that can be implemented to maintain good nutritional status in this patient group. Identify nutritional status, symptom relief, the role of the nurse in guiding diet and oral care, as well as the administration of enteral nutrition. Nevertheless, this is a topic that needs more research. Especially the latter, as there is a conflict between best practice
