Philoponus, Stephanus and the De Anima

    No full text
The Greek commentary on Aristotle’s De Anima is assigned by Michael Hayduck to Philoponus, except that he assigns Book 3 to Stephanus. The true continuation of Books 1 and 2 is now known to be a Latin text which claims to be a translation from Philoponus. Peter Lautner, however, contends that both the full commentary and the stray Book 3 are by Philoponus. Pantelis Golitsis argues that Philoponus composed the stray Book 3 while the full commentary is by his tutor Ammonius. Here it will be argued that: (a) Lautner is probably right to deny the stray Book 3 to Stephanus; (b) the criteria employed by Golitsis suggest that Philoponus had a hand in both the Greek and the Latin Book 3; (c) Philoponus is therefore likely to be the author of both the full commentary, as editor of Ammonius, and the stray Book 3 in his own right

INTEREST RATE METRIS SYSTEM: ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY FOR BANKING INDUSTRY

    No full text
The financial transaction facilities including Automated Teller Machine (ATM), mobile banking, or internet banking can help customers to make real time transactions across location and time zones. On the basis of these two facts, this research comparatively analyze and prove that the daily interest rate system as commonly practiced by the bank potentially create loss to them. Since the daily interest rate system is based on the change of the date, the customers can double the nominal interest rate income. Using comparative analysis, this paper shows that the potential loss may be prevented when the bank use the metris interest rate system, which is based on the time in seconds

Continuous Method: A Flexible Solution for Metal Length Expansion Measurement in the Modern Manufacturing Industry

    No full text
Measurement of metal length expansion is crucial in the modern manufacturing industry as it impacts product design, production, and performance. Current conventional method (Discrete Methods/DM) relies on an initial reference length (L0), which limits the flexibility of in-situ and continuous measurements. This study compares the accuracy and flexibility of DM with the Continuous Method (CM), an approach that potentially eliminates the need for L0 after the initial measurement. Using numerical simulations on five metals, this study analyzes calculations for estimating metal length expansion under various heating scenarios. The results show that both methods provide similar differences in metal length thermal expansion values (difference <0.0001 m), confirming their comparative accuracy. However, CM proves significantly more flexible as it allows the calculation of metal length thermal expansion estimates at arbitrary temperatures without the need to refer to L0, unlike DM, which requires L0 for consistency. This flexibility makes CM more practical for both incremental and real-time measurements, supporting the integration of automation into precision manufacturing processes. Implications for the manufacturing industry include increased efficiency of in-situ measurements, reduced reliance on initial data, and the potential for better integration with continuous quality control systems and Digital Twins

    Ex-Centric Hermeneutics in Stephanus Muller's <i>Nagmusiek</i>

    No full text
In this review article the author reads Nagmusiek – Stephanus Muller's monumental metafictional biography of South African composer Arnold van Wyk – as an extended allegory on the geopolitics of academic writing. She argues that the book articulates, through its unusual physical apparatus, narratological techniques and metafictional hermeneutic deconcealment, a valuable theory-in-praxis of the aporetics of peripheral writing. In so doing, Muller materializes Walter Mignolo's notion of ‘epistemic delinking’ in radically original and risky ways.</jats:p

The observations of a voyager: Stephanus Hanewinckel on the dialects of the Meijerij

    No full text
This paper describes the relatively unknown genre of the travelogues, travel journals in which a dilettante anthropologist author presents information about unknown cultures and regions. Some of these travelogues contain linguistic information that is overlooked so far. In this paper a Dutch author of printed travel journals, Stephanus Hanewinckel, will be introduced. His early dialectological remarks and data will be presented and analyzed. Moreover the history of the Parable of the Prodigal Son as a sample text for dialect comparison will be discussed. The article ends with an edition of Hanewinckel’s early 19th century version of the Parable of the Prodigal Son in a Dutch dialect from the province of North Brabant

Comparison Simulation Analysis of the Gradual Summation of a Function with Recognition of Direct Extrapolation Via IN Series

    No full text
A set of data pattern that have the characteristic of a function can be approached using Newton series simulation. When using the Newton series, the simulation result of the summation of extrapolation data can be gradually done in step by step. However, if using the IN series, the simulation result of the summation of extrapolation data doesnt need to be gradually done in step by step. The methodology in this research compares the data pattern from the simulation results of the high degree function with the results of interpolation and extrapolation from the results of the IN series simulation. Futhermore, will be carried out comparison simulation analysis of the summation of the function values gradually with the extrapolation function directly using the IN series. The result of comparison simulation analysis point out that the value of the total summation of data between the gradual and the direct summation is the same, so that the direct sum technique using the IN Series is able to make the total sum process more efficient

Effective Solutions for Moving Objects in Acceleration Functions and Their Reflections Using Goen's Distance Formula

    No full text
Goen's distance formula effectively calculates the distance from acceleration, which has a pattern as a symmetric function of time changes. In Goen's distance formula, where the acceleration function against time has a symmetric pattern, it can be solved simply by performing a total integral and multiplying it by half of the total time. Symmetric acceleration functions can be constructed by combining certain functions with their reflections. In this study, the method of proving Goen's distance formula is carried out mathematically using single and double-level average integrals of symmetric functions. The advantage of Goen's distance formula compared to the conventional distance formula is that in finding the distance traveled by an object moving with a symmetric acceleration function, it will be more effective because it is sufficient to perform an integral once compared to having to do two integrals as done in the conventional method.
