Marcelo dascal and the literal meaning debates
What role does literal meaning play in people’s understanding of indirect and figurative language? Scholars from many disciplines have debated this issue forseveral decades. This chapter describes these debates, especially focusing on the arguments between the author and Marcelo Dascal. I suggest that Dascal’s defense of “moderate literalism” may have some validity, contrary to some of my earlier arguments against this point of view. The chapter acknowledges the strong contribution that Marcelo Dascal has made to interdisciplinary discussions on language and thought
Marcelo Cohen’s Work : Between Fantastic Sociology and Fictional Geography
Cette thèse étudie les notions de géographie imaginaire et de sociologie fantastique dans l’œuvre de Marcelo Cohen (Buenos Aires, 1951). Le corpus de travail comprend l’ensemble de la production de fiction narrative de l’auteur (contes, nouvelles et romans en une vingtaine d’ouvrages) entre son premier recueil de récits, Lo que queda (1972), et son roman Balada (2011). La thèse est organisée en trois parties : la première (« Marcelo Cohen et son œuvre. Perspectives théoriques et méthodologiques ») propose une présentation de l’auteur et de son œuvre et un bilan théorique et pratique des notions de géographie imaginaire et de sociologie fantastique ; la deuxième (« Écrire l’espace ») analyse la construction de l’espace dans le corpus choisi dans une double démarche chronologique et figurative ; la troisième (« Littérature et société ») se penche sur les manifestations des dimensions idéologiques, sociales et politiques, et sur les relations entre l’individu et la société dans les ouvrages de Marcelo Cohen. Le travail s’achève par une réflexion globale sur la poétique et l’esthétique de l’auteur argentin.This thesis considers such concepts as fictional Geography and fantastic Sociology in Marcelo Cohen’s work (Buenos Aires, 1951).The body of this research includes all the narrative fiction by this author (some twenty tales, short stories and novels in total), between his first collection of stories, Lo que queda (1972), and his novel Balada (2011).Our thesis develops three domains : the first one (« Marcelo Cohen and his work, a theoretical and methodological outlook ») introduces the author and his work, along with a theoretical and practical evaluation of such concepts as fictional Geography and fantastic Sociology ; the second one (« Space in writing ») analyzes the make of space in the selected books, in a dual approach : both chronological and representational ; the last one (« Literature and society ») addresses the expressions of ideological, sociological and political dimensions, plus the relationship between a particular person and his/her society in Marcelo Cohen’s works. This research ends with a global consideration of poetry and estheticism in the work of our Argentinean author
Reações sem solventes sob irradiação de micro-ondas: métodos eficientes para síntese de selenol ésteres e carbamatos de 9-fluorenilmetila
Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências Físicas e Matemáticas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química, Florinaópolis, 2012No presente trabalho, desenvolveram-se novas rotas sintéticas para a síntese de selenol ésteres e carbamatos de 9-fluorenilmetila através de uma metodologia rápida, sem atmosfera inerte e sem solvente, conferindo um caráter mais "verde" na preparação desses compostos sinteticamente importantes. A preparação dos selenol ésteres envolveu uma nova metodologia sem solvente, em ausência de atmosfera inerte e sob irradiação de micro-ondas. Utilizou-se como materiais de partida cloretos de ácidos, disselenetos de diorganoíla e zinco como redutor da ligação Se-Se. Dessa forma, a estratégia sintética adotada para a síntese dos selenol ésteres permitiu a obtenção dos mesmos em somente 2 minutos de reação e em até 95% de rendimento (Esquema 1). Adicionalmente, utilizando a mesma metodologia, porém empregando cloroformiatos de organoíla como fonte eletrofílica, sintetizou-se 3 diferentes selenocarbonatos, os quais podem ser considerados grupos protetores de composto organoselênio (Esquema 2). Na segunda parte do trabalho, foram sintetizados carbamatos de 9-fluorenilmetila, os quais são importantes protetores de aminas. De maneira similar, utilizou-se uma metodologia envolvendo reações sem solventes, sem atmosfera inerte e sob irradiação de micro-ondas. Para a síntese das aminas Fmoc-protegidas empregou-se cloroformiato de 9-fluorenilmetila e diferentes tipos de aminas. Dessa forma, os compostos desejados 8 foram convenientemente sintetizados em até 96% rendimento em somente 5 minutos de reação (Esquema 3). Abstract : In the present work, we have developed two efficient and eco-friendly approaches for the synthesis of selenol esters and for the Fmoc protection of amines. Indeed, the preparation of selenol esters was accomplished by a new solvent-free methodology without solvent, without inert atmosphere under microwave irradiation. In order to prepare the desired selenol esters we used acyl chlorides, diorganyl chlorides and zinc as a reducing agent of Se-Se bond. This novel solvent-free approach gave good to excellent isolated yields of desired products within only 2 minutes (Scheme 1). Furthermore, by using the same green approach we attempted to synthesize different selenocarbonates bearing interesting functionalities. Gratifyingly, the corresponding products were obtained with satisfactory yields as can be seen in Scheme 2. In the second part of the work, we report an efficient, quick and eco-friendly method for the Fmoc protection of amines. Similarly, we developed a novel solvent-free approach which resulted in good to excellent isolated yields of the desired products within only 5 min under microwave irradiation (Scheme 3)
Geographic indications (GI): linking history and tradition with competitive business.
Geographic Indications (GI) represent a collective trademark created to protect producers and promote the trade of products that have become notorious due to its region of production. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to provide an overview on the concepts of GI and provide the main relevant facts and figures of GI worldwide and in Brazil.As of July 2019, more than 130 thousand of GIs were registered at the World Intellectual Property Organization, mainly in Europe, Asia and the Americas. In Brazil, as an emerging economy, GI is becoming an increasingly important, both in terms of protecting Brazilian typical products as well as the GI from other countries trading with Brazil. Consumption trends towards originality, typical products, expressing certain quality attributes may further develop businesses in different parts of the world. Consumers with higher income may prefer certain quality attributes for the products and services they consume. In this context, GI represent a strong and sustainable strategy to provide those goods and services to those demanding consumers

Catalytic Chalcogenylation under Greener Conditions: A Solvent-Free Sulfur- and Seleno-functionalization of Olefins via I-2/DMSO Oxidant System
Herein, we report a solvent- and metal-free methodology for the alkoxy-chalcogenylation of styrenes, using molecular iodine as a catalyst, DMSO as a stoichiometric oxidant, and different nucleophiles under microwave irradiation. This eco-friendly approach afforded the desired products in good to excellent yields in only 10 min. In addition, using the same protocol, we carried out the cyclization reaction of relevant molecules, such as lapachol derivatives

The present work analyzes the forms that Science fiction takes in Marcelo Cohen´s narrative. By outlining certain characteristics of the genre, it is considered the ways how these are reformulated according to the Romantic epistemological paradigm that the author picks up, blending it with concepts of quantum and chaos theories, to postulate a model of Realism. Within this context, the initial analysis of the author´s self-fashioning and essays is useful to think the proposal of a singular ontology in his fictions
Renewable resources are the future: The role of sustainable raw materials and the potential of biopolymers in Brazil.
This article discusses the emergence of a global biopolymer market and the potential for economic use in the Brazilian case. The aim is to identify and discuss the potential of access to biopolymers, their uses, and transformations in Brazilian industrial production. It is considered that Brazil has a high production potential for biopolymers. However, it is known that these new materials are still in the initial phase of production and replacement of conventional plastic products. We present global data from regions that stand out in the production process of these raw materials, as well as data on countries that already use these sources to convert more sustainable products. After presenting data, an analysis of Porter's diamond was carried out to know and understand how the biopolymer chain is currently organized, its potential, and its challenges in Brazil

El presente trabajo analiza la forma que asume la ciencia ficción en la obra de Marcelo Cohen. A partir de un recorrido por ciertas particularidades del género se reflexiona acerca de cómo éstas se reformulan de acuerdo con el paradigma epistemológico romántico que el autor retoma, y que conjuga con conceptos de la cuántica y de las teorías del caos, en vistas de la postulación de un modelo de realismo. En este contexto, el análisis inicial de las autofiguraciones del autor y de sus ensayos sirve para pensar la propuesta de una ontología singular en sus ficciones.The present work analyzes the forms that Science fiction takes in Marcelo Cohen´s narrative.
