Get PDFThis article examines the possibilities of family life among captives of three wealthy slave holding families in the forest region of Minas Gerais [Zona da Mata Mineira], which was an area of thriving coffee plantations during the nineteenth century. Utilizing diverse types of documentation, the paper examines the lives of these families¿ slaves and their family structures. The data reveal that the captives were able to live together and that they created family environments in a variety of ways. Relations of symbolic (spiritual) kinship point to the existence of networks of solidarity and reciprocity. The captives of the three families studied maintained some stability in their emotional andspiritual ties, even after the division of property of his master, establishing ties, spiritual and consanguineous, with individuals of different social status
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
A importância das relações familiares para os projetos de liberdade na Mata Mineira Oitocentista
Get PDFEste trabalho procura adentrar, por meio da análise de algumas fontes, no “mundo” de alguns escravos com relações familiares, a fim de conhecer um pouco mais sobre como se deu o trânsito entre a escravidão e a liberdade. As relações familiares foram muito importantes na vida daqueles indivíduos, inclusive nas possibilidades para obter sua liberdade ou de seus entes queridos. Trata-se de histórias de vida de alguns cativos da então Vila de Santo Antonio do Paraibuna (atual Juiz de Fora) região de plantation na Zona da Mata Mineira durante o século XIX. Nosso método foi o de cruzar fontes (testamentos, inventários, cartas de alforria, registros paroquiais) relativas às escravarias, pertencentes a algumas abastadas famílias da elite. Procuramos sempre que possível acompanhar esses escravizados ao longo do tempo com o intuito de conhecer um pouco mais sobre a política das alforrias, que se deram entre os senhores e seus escravos, e que foram fundamentais para esses indivíduos. Desta forma, houve a possibilidade de “perseguir” alguns cativos com relações familiares e que conseguiram alcançar, por diversos meios, sua liberdade ou a de um membro de sua família

Get PDFO presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a composição da riqueza de três grandes famílias possuidoras de um grande contingente de cativos, terras e prestígio social, da Vila de Santo Antonio do Juiz de Fora, grande plantation cafeeira, localizada na Zona da Mata Mineira, durante o século XIX e que são representativas dos grandes fortunas daquela região. Notamos que as ditas famílias utilizaram-se de estratégias de casamento endogâmicos, objetivando, dentre outras, coisas a manutenção/ ampliação de suas posses, riqueza e poder. Da mesma forma, pudemos notar que a maior parte de suas fortunas concentrava-se em escravos, terras, dívidas ativas. Para tanto, foi feito o intercruzamento de fontes variadas relativas aos mesmos grupos de cativos pertencentes a três famílias abastadas, procurando sempre que possível acompanhar esses escravizados ao longo do tempo. Houve a preocupação de investigar as famílias senhoriais proprietárias desses cativos. Analisamos como se deu a manutenção e/ou a ampliação das posses cativas, se por meio do tráfico e/ou da reprodução natural, fatores que influenciavam a formação das famílias escravas. Comércio local: tráfico interno de escravos em Juiz de Fora (MG), segunda metade do século XIX
Get PDFO presente artigo procura analisar o tráfico interno de escravos, na segunda metade do século XIX, em uma região dinâmica do ponto de vista econômico. Juiz de Fora, localizada na Zona da Mata Mineira, foi durante o século XIX a maior possuidora de cativos daquela província, uma das maiores produtoras de café e possuía proprietários com grandes extensões de terra. Era uma típica área de plantation. Por meio da análise de três grandes famílias possuidoras de escravos, terras e café, tecemos considerações a respeito do comércio de escravos e de que forma essas famílias se valeram do mesmo para a manutenção/ampliação de suas escravarias. Dentre outros aspectos (como preço, sexo, ofício dos escravos transacionados) nos interessamos em saber qual o tipo de tráfico interno realizado: interprovincial, intraprovincial ou local. Além da reprodução natural dos escravos (que não será pormenorizada aqui), fica patente a importância desse tráfico interno para a manutenção/ampliação daquelas posses

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Get PDFTh is article examines ways of maintaining the slave family in three large properties of the slave village of Santo Antonio do Paraibuna, an important coff eeproducing county located in the so-called Zona da Mata Mineira, in the state of Minas Gerais, during the 19th century. Th e partition of an owner’s property was undoubtedly one of the moments that caused high tensions and expectations for slaves and their families. Th e possibility of disruption of family and kinship relations that was always present reached its apex at the time of the death of their masters. Moreover, to be “part” of a property, be it small, medium or large, could infl uence not only this stability, but also the relationship among the members of the slave family and the pursuit of kinship relations, be they fi ctional or consanguineous. Th e intercrossing of sources (postmortem inventories, partitions) made it possible to track the fate of slaves beyond the partition of property and see whether there was a division or a maintenance of the family relations of some slave families.Key words: slave family, partition of property, stability, division/maintenance.Neste artigo pretendemos analisar as possibilidades de manutenção da família escrava em três grandes propriedades escravistas da Vila de Santo Antonio do Paraibuna, importante município cafeeiro, localizado na Zona da Mata Mineira – Minas Gerais,durante o século XIX. A divisão dos bens de um proprietário foi, sem dúvida, um dos momentos que mais causou expectativas e tensões para os escravos e suas famílias. A possibilidade de rompimento das relações familiares e de parentesco sempre presente chegava ao seu ápice no momento da morte de seus senhores. Além disso, o “fazer parte” de uma propriedade, pequena, média ou grande, podia influir não só nesta estabilidade, mas também no convívio dos membros da família escrava, e na consecução de relações de parentesco, fossem elas consanguíneas ou fictícias. O intercruzamento de fontes (inventários post-mortem, partilhas) permitiu acompanhar o destino dos escravos para além dapartilha dos bens e perceber se houve a divisão ou a manutenção das relações familiaresde algumas famílias escravas.Palavras-chave: família escrava, partilha dos bens, estabilidade, divisão/manutenção
