What « field » today for literature ? Reflecting on the questions that update the various conceptions of literature, Dominique Viart reveals a contemporary tension between disorientation and extension. However, if literature loses its authority, it remains a need, and even a social necessity, for all disciplines of thought. This is reflected in the recent development of « fieldwork literatures ». Based on a definition of contemporary literature as a « relationship », the author identifies six precepts that can foster its development

ViART: Vision-based soft tactile sensing for autonomous robotic vehicles

    No full text
Navigating and interacting in a narrow space, especially where visual and range sensors do not work, is challenging for autonomous robotic vehicles. In such a scenario, collisions with obstacles and other vehicles are inevitable; thus, effective proximity detection systems are required for safe robot navigation and interactions. This article proposes an innovative design of vision-based soft tactile sensing system for autonomous robotic vehicles (ViART). ViART has a silicone rubber barrel-shaped skin. A set of markers interspaced around the inner surface equator of the skin is monitored by a fish-eye camera installed at one end of the barrel. Displacements of these markers are measured to perceive the physical interaction of tactile sensor and surrounding objects. Contact angle and force of the tactile sensor were estimated and evaluated through a series of experiments, achieving a mean absolute error of 1.12 ∘ and 0.12 N, respectively. We demonstrated the capability of a developed sensing system with experiments of multiple autonomous mobile robots without visual feedback, showing its capability to navigate in challenging environments, such as narrow spaces, clustered obstacles, and a mix of static and dynamic obstacles. Moreover, with these experiments, we reveal how unique characteristics of the skin including 360 ∘ multicontact detection and force measurement help leveraging the capacities of obstacle avoidance and navigation of multiagent robotic systems. Tactile-based multicontact sensing capacity provides information on the relative velocity for the robot to avoid obstacles efficiently, whereas tactile-based force estimation enables the robot to avoid obstacles by pushing obstacles away. We expect this contribution may pave a way to implement soft tactile sensing for robust, efficient, safe interaction, and navigation of autonomous vehicles in restricted environments

The author in situation of the “spectacle”: towards a non-narrative filiation

    No full text
The paper discuss the concept of “filiation narratives”, proposed in 1999 by the French theorist Dominique Viart, from the point of view of the “spectacularization of the author” (V. Kaufmann) in the contemporary visual culture. On the one hand, in visual culture, the media visibility of the author seems much important that his work. On the other hand, the strictly narrative understanding of the filiation is no longer possible. The example of the non‐narrative filiation which connect a French writer Patrick Modiano and his daughter, singer et writer Marie Modiano, is proposed to show the resistance of the literature against the abuses of the media’s influence to the literary culture

The Tungkot Tunggal Panaluan Batak Statue As A Source Of Inspiration For The Creation Of Painting Artworks

    No full text
The author's fascination inspired the creation of this work with the Tungkot Tunggal Panaluan Batak statue, a significant element of Batak culture, notable for its shape, history, and function. This statue portrays seven individuals supporting each other, diminishing in size, set against diverse backgrounds. The research seeks to visualize the form, history, and applicability of the Tungkot Tunggal Panaluan statue from the distant past to the present day, manifesting as paintings accompanied by descriptions of their meanings and the techniques employed in their creation. The author produced 12 paintings in this study using acrylic and oil paints on canvas. These artworks feature human figures and primitive Batak figurative statues, characterized by stylized forms, set against a simple village backdrop that serves as a historical context for Tungkot Tunggal Panaluan. Historically, this statue was employed by leaders in traditional Batak community events. The author combined three techniques—plaque, chiaroscuro, and bravura—to infuse the paintings with dynamic impressions, contrasts, and vitality. Notably, the chiaroscuro technique was employed to balance dark and light, utilizing paint colors derived from raw umber and yellow ocher combined with primary colors to evoke a vintage atmosphere. The outcomes of this research comprise 12 paintings, each titled uniquely, reflecting the author's interpretation of the Tungkot Tunggal Panaluan statue in the realm of fine art. These works offer a profound insight into the statue's form, history, and function, contributing significantly to the author's impact on the evolution of painting

Maylis de Kerangal : geographies, poetics and politics

Places play a key role in the work of Maylis de Kerangal. Far from being reduced to a purely decorative function, they are the very basis of the narration, building it and influencing the way the author writes. Her work stems from both the contemplation of landscapes and a certain reflection on our society. Geography can be found everywhere in her texts. One could even write ‘geographies’, the plural form being justified by the way she explores the different aspects of this discipline, encompassing a large spectrum, going from geomorphology to human geography, and even geopolitics and sociology without ignoring a more intimate, and sometimes imaginary geography. Combining aesthetics with ethics, the author creates a political stance, which develops from being a little timid in her early work to becoming more assertive in her later work. This stance, however, is not obvious, but it indirectly expresses a desire to affirm rather than to demonstrate. Her work thus gives an account of the world thanks to a “poethics” which glorifies it and sublimates the characters in choral socio-epics with a great narrative power. Escaping a naive vision, this creative impulse was born out of a political reflection that is close to the care theories and the new forms of literary commitment, by way of the attention it pays to others as well as the respect for democratic fundamentals. The aim of this thesis is, therefore, to show how, by anchoring her texts geographically, Maylis de Kerangal creates a new way to look at a reality that is both deeply unique and in tune with the problematics that so many contemporary works create, giving the author a particular place in the present literary landscape

The aim of this final work is to create and introduce creative ideas for craft arts using ribbon and macrame techniques as the completion of the final work. Then introduce to the general public what ribbon flowers and macrame are, then later they will be educated as a display idea in the area of the room which has a function as decoration on thatch media. The method that the author uses is a method that has been proposed in creating art which is carried out in stages, namely the preparation stage by searching for information, elaboration by analyzing the problem, synthesis expressing ideas, realization of the concept by creating the work and completion by doing it together. Based on the method that has been carried out to produce seven various flower works as ideas for creating works with ribbons and macrame the author creates works in the form of accessories. The rooms have the titles: Matahri 1, Mataharri 2, Matahari 3, Matahari 4, Seluran 1, Seluran 2, Tangg

The Black Cat as an Ornamental Motif in Hand-Drawn Batik for Upiak's Bedroom Aesthetic Design

    No full text
This article explores the creation process of hand-drawn batik artworks featuring the black cat as the main motif in aesthetic bedroom furnishings for a Minangkabau girl, traditionally referred to as “Si Upiak.” The choice of the black cat was driven by the intention to challenge negative stereotypes rooted in traditional myths. Through stylized forms and the hand-drawn batik technique, the author produced seven textile works functioning as both decorative and educational elements, including bed sheets, pillowcases, night lamps, and sleepwear. Each piece combines the visual elements of the black cat and lily flowers as symbols of strength, sincerity, and comfort within a personal space. The creation process follows the stages of preparation, elaboration, synthesis, conceptual realization, and finishing. The resulting works demonstrate a blend of aesthetic, symbolic, and functional values within the context of local culture and contemporary artistic expression. This work aims to enrich the discourse of textile craft art while serving as a medium for value transformation in society
