Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente, Florianópolis, 2007The aim of the present study is to analyse how issues of Albanian national identity are portrayed in Ismail Kadaré's novel Broken April (Prilli i Thyer), and how such features have been appropriated and translated onto the screen into a Northeastern Brazilian context. I depart from the premise that, even though Brazilian elements are indeed shown in the film, the non existence of the Kanun in Brazil, and the use of narrative techniques different from the ones employed in the novel render the story of the blood feuds in the film more universal than the genuinely Albanian reality depicted in the novel. In sum, the appropriation transcends the Albanian reality into a universal context, showing, at the same time, elements which are typical of the Brazilian culture.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como questões sobre a identidade nacional Albanesa são retratadas no romance Abril Despedaçado (Prilli i Thyer), de Ismail Kadaré, e como tais questões foram apropriadas e traduzidas para a tela num contexto Nordestino-Brasileiro.

The objective of this work is to discuss narrative strategies that can be used to approximate the documentary films of his object, questioning the relationship of these with the reality, especially in Brazil. For this, uses two films of João Moreira Salles as an example: Notícias de uma guerra particular (1999), which has markedly what Fernão Ramos (2005b) calls the "scar shooting", and Santiago (2007), where author's presence is crucial to define the character of the film, may be included in the category that Bill Nichols (2005) calls "performative documentary". Also, seeing the documentary as anti-espectacle, this study finds that those movie stubs can redeem senses lost in a dystopia that Josefina Ludmer (2010) describes as realidadficción

Abstract: Based on a research study carried out into the Clarice Lispector Collection of Moreira Salles Institute in Rio de Janeiro, this article presents some titles from the far east that were part of the bookshelf of the writer, with critical emphasis on the I Ching, the Book of Changes. Based on this fact, and through readings of the Chinese book and the author’s writings, the article proposes as result significant connections among the claricean hermeticism and the I Ching, in ways that conclusively point to the reinforcement of the aesthetic dimension of The Book of Changes, approaching the writer, also along this eastern route, of important authors of world literature, such as Ezra Pound, Jorge Luis Borges and Octavio Paz.Keywords: collection; Clarice Lispector; far east; I Ching

Effects of Plant Genotype and Growth Stage on the Betaproteobacterial Communities Associated with Different Potato Cultivars in Two Fields

    No full text
Bacterial communities in the rhizosphere are dynamic and susceptible to changes in plant conditions. Among the bacteria, the betaproteobacteria play key roles in nutrient cycling and plant growth promotion, and hence the dynamics of their community structures in the rhizosphere should be investigated. Here, the effects of plant cultivar, growth stage, and soil type on the communities associated with potato cultivars Aveka, Aventra, Karnico, Modena, Premiere, and Desiree were assessed for two different fields containing sandy soil with either a high or low organic compound content. Thus, bacterial and betaproteobacterial PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analyses were performed to analyze the effects of plant cultivar and growth on the rhizosphere community structure. The analyses showed that in both fields all cultivars had a rhizosphere effect on the total bacterial and betaproteobacterial communities. In addition, the plant growth stage strongly affected the betaproteobacterial communities in both fields. Moreover, the community structures were affected by cultivar, and cultivars differed in physiology, as reflected in their growth rates, root development, and estimated tuber starch contents. Analyses of betaproteobacterial clone libraries constructed for two selected cultivars (one cultivar that produced low-starch-content tubers and one cultivar that produced high-starch-content tubers), as well as bulk soil, revealed that the rhizospheres of the two cultivars selected for specific bacteria, including plant-growth-promoting bacteria, such as Variovorax and Achromobacter spp. In addition, quantitative PCR-based quantification of the Variovorax paradoxus-specific functional gene asfA (involved in desulfonation) indicated that there were clear potato rhizosphere effects on the abundance of this gene. Interestingly, both cultivar type and plant growth stage affected the community under some circumstances
