An Architectural Self - Criticism: The Accessibility Analysis of Berlika Park Swimming Pool
Urban designers and architects have to clearly understand the physical features and needs of the people they are designing for. In the designing process fields such as anthropometry, biomechanics, ergonomics, biology and physics require scientific verification to architects. But it can easily be forgotten that there are physically-challenged persons. All users experience any place by using their ability to move and perceive. If designers don’t take into account the special circumstances in the design process for physically-challenged persons, the accessibility of the place becomes impossible. At the same time a sustainable and an accessible place is truly a sign of urban rights being recognized. In this context, human rights are not only important for disciplines such as law, sociology, psychology and political sciences but also they must be important for design disciplines such as architecture, urban and interior design. This research based on the rights to exercise for physically-challenged persons aims to analyze the accessibility of the place. I was a member of the design team and today an active user of the facility-Berlika Park Swimming Pool-chosen for this study. Photographs were taken of different areas of the facility not compliant with TSE standards -TS9111 - TS 12576. Within this context, the structure was examined in terms of mobility constraints under the titles of accessible route, the arrangement of immediate surroundings of the building, arrangement of the entrance of the building, arrangement of the accessibility inside the building, signs, elevators, and fire emergency alert systems. The problematic areas of the building were identified and analyzed. This research aims to make the building more accessible place and a new modification project is being planned. But it is necessary to examine the building or the environment during its design process and solve the problems without the need of renovation project. The design standards for everyone should be considered in the contracts. At the same time, the accessibility plates should be asked from the architects
A Model suggestion for 3PL company selection and route minimization
In this study, 3PL company selection and route minimization were carried out with the model of application consisting of two main parts. Accordingly, in the first part, 3PL company selection for a business operating in the food sector in the Black Sea Region was made with the help of Integrated Multi Criteria Decision Making Techniques. At this stage, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHS) technique was used in the criterion of weighting and Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method was used for 3PL company selection. In the second stage of the application model, the most suitable route for the 3PL company determined in the first part was found out by the saving algorithm, one of the Vehicle Routing Problems (ARP) solution techniques. According to the results obtained, it was determined that the criterion with the the most valuable factor is "Cost", the criterion with the lowest factor is "Image" and A1 Logistics company is the best alternative. In addition, it has been determined that significant savings have been achieved with the recommended route for transportation activities
L’ingresso dei cittadini turchi nell’UE al tempo della sentenza Demirkan
In the Demirkan ruling, the Court of Justice of the European Union refused to extend the passive freedom of services first stated in the Luisi e Carbone ruling to Turkish tourists wishing to enter a member State of the EU without obtaining a visa. The Case Note reviews the grounds of this finding, which partially reiterate those at the basis of the Ziebell ruling as regards the different purposes of the Association between Turkey and the EU, on the one hand, and the Treaty on the European Union, on the other hand. Nevertheless, doubts are raised on the importance that the Court and the Advocate General in Demirkan attach to the link between the passive freedom of services and the concept of European citizenship. Ultimately, the impact of the ruling on the negotiation between Turkey and the EU on visa liberalization is highlighted
Mimari Tasar m Sürecinde Bellek ve Mimesis: Archiprix Projeleri Üzerine Bir De erlendirme
This study has been shaped and developed upon the evaluation of the relationship between memory and mimesis in the context of architectural design practice and aims to gain new perspectives regarding mimesis in architecture through the mimetic partnership established by designers with memory. For this reason, memory, one of the concepts of the study, is evaluated as 'visual, conceptual and creative memories' according to the information cycle of design process both in terms of its own internal design and both in the mind of the designer and in the information code it provides. Visual memory; the conceptual memory, which is composed of the universe of infinite constructions in which architectural constructions take place, and which identifies the building visuals providing visual data to the designers; traditions, social, cultural facts, human, identity, knowledge, reason, spiritual needs, experiences, habits. Creative memory is; the sensory intelligence that transforms and transforms both visual and conceptual information codes at the point of reproducing is rational mind or mimetic memory. In this context, the study is based on interconnected layers, first of all, in digital networks, the memes of the relevant sources and literature are researched and classified according to their type, quality and meaning. Afterwards, an evaluation was made on the International Archiprix Projects, which gained existence with the participation of students from different cultures and geographies, with the prediction that focusing on buildings that can create a design partnership instead of individual architectural structures will provide a clearer reading of the theoretical approach dominating the study
Ceo overconfidence across the firm lifecycle: effects on accounting outcomes and stock market reactions
This study explores the relationship between CEO overconfidence and firm performance across different stages of the firm life cycle. Previous research has shown that an overconfident CEO's personality can influence key decisions related to investments, financial reporting, and broader corporate policies. A firm's evolution is shaped by shifts in both internal factors, such as investment and managerial choices, and external factors like industry trends and economic conditions. The existing literature suggests that the various stages of a firm's life cycle significantly affect decision-making processes and profitability. Our findings indicate that firms led by overconfident CEOs exhibit varying performance outcomes and abnormal returns depending on the firm's life cycle stage. Notably, firms tend to outperform and achieve positive future performance (abnormal stock market returns) during the growth mature and shakeout (growth and mature) stages. However, they experience weaker accounting performance during the decline stage. In addition, cross-sectional tests reveal that, in the decline stage, firms with a better information environment do not experience the negative impact of CEO overconfidence on future accounting performance
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
