The relationship between photography and ethnography in anthropological studies, albeit ancient and deep, is uncertain and complex. Photography has been increasingly used in anthropological researches but it´s potencial as something beyond illustration and it´s interaction with the Other as a technique is very little explored. This research is dedicated to the analysis of this relationship by taking the work of Pierre Fatumbi Verger, his life and legacy. A French man, rooted in Bahia, Brasil, in the decade of 1940, Verger is known worldwide for his work as a photographer as well as for his etnographic studies. However, the reason of this recognition is undefined and examining the reason for these indefinitions can be a fruitful field of reflection concerning ethnographic researches, especially when related to the photographic universe. The Pierre Verger Foundation is the institution that hosts his photographic and ethnographic collection and it´s also where the field research of this work took place. Through the field research combined with the readings of photographs related to candomblé and it´s manifestations in Africa and Bahia, a photographic analysis methodology was created that privilege interaction and dialogue as a way to build definitions about ethnography. By the contact with the Foundation, it´s users and it´s available photographic collection, this research intends to reflect about the ethnography and the creation of an ethnographic view in direct relation to the exercise of photography
L'histoire politique de l'Empire achéménide : problèmes et méthodes (À propos d'un ouvrage de M. A. Dandamaev)
The author proposes a detailed critical analysis of a book by M. A. Dandamaev, which has been recently translated into english (A political history of the Achaemenid Empire, 1989), and he explains which are, in his opinion, the methodological conditions of a historical synthesis on a fascinating and highly complex period in the Ancient Near-Eastern historical process.L'auteur mène ici une analyse critique détaillée d'un ouvrage de M. Dandamaev récemment traduit en anglais (A political history of the Achaemenid Empire, 1989), et il expose ses propres vues sur les conditions méthodogiques de toute synthèse historique sur cette période passionnante et complexe de l'histoire du Proche-Orient.Briant Pierre. Is There Market Power in the French Comte Cheese Market?
An NEIO approach is used to measure seller market power in the French Comté cheese market, characterised by government-approved supply control. The estimation is performed on quarterly data at the wholesale stage over the period 1985-2005. Three different elasticity shifters are included in the demand specification, and the supply equation accounts for the existence of the European dairy quota policy. The market power estimate is small and statistically insignificant. Monopoly is rejected, as well as weak forms of Cournot oligopoly. Results appear to be robust to the choice of functional form, and suggest little effect of the supply control scheme on consumer prices.Supply control, NEIO, protected designation of origin, Marketing,

Heme iron from meat and risk of colorectal cancer: a meta-analysis and a review of the mechanisms involved
Red meat and processed meat intake is associated with a risk of colorectal cancer, a major cause of death in affluent countries. Epidemiological and experimental evidence supports the hypothesis that heme iron present in meat promotes colorectal cancer. This meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies of colon cancer reporting heme intake included 566,607 individuals and 4,734 cases of colon cancer. The summary relative risk of colon cancer was 1.18 [95%C.I.: 1.06-1.32] for subjects in the highest category of heme iron intake compared with those in the lowest category. Epidemiological data thus show a suggestive association between dietary heme and risk of colon cancer. The analysis of experimental studies in rats with chemically-induced colon cancer showed that dietary hemoglobin and red meat consistently promote aberrant crypt foci, a putative pre-cancer lesion. The mechanism is not known, but heme iron has a catalytic effect on (i) the endogenous formation of carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds and (ii) the formation of cytotoxic and genotoxic aldehydes by lipoperoxidation. A review of evidence supporting these hypotheses suggests that both pathways are involved in heme iron toxicit
Rigidity effect of the dithioether spacer on the size of the luminescent cluster (Cu(2)I(2))(n) (n = 2, 3) in their coordination polymers
Treatment of CuI with the flexible PhS(CH(2))(4)SPh dithioether ligand in MeCN solution affords the strongly luminescent metal-organic 2D coordination polymer [Cu(4)I(4){mu-PhS(CH(2))(4)SPh}(2)](n) (). The interpenetrated 2D network of is built upon by Cu(4)(mu(3)-I)(4) cubane-like clusters as secondary building units (SBUs), which are interconnected via bridging 1,4-bis(phenylthio)butane ligands. In contrast, the auto-assembly reaction of the unsaturated semi-flexible PhSCH(2)C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CCH(2)SPh ligand with CuI results in formation of the 3D metallopolymer [(Cu(6)I(6)){mu-PhSCH(2)C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CCH(2)SPh}(3)](n) (). The SBUs of luminescent consist of discrete Cu(6)(mu(3)-I)(6) hexagon prisms, which are coordinated with bridging 1,4-bis(phenythio)butyne ligands via Cu-S bonds. Contrary to the other rare literature-known examples of metallopolymers incorporating Cu(6)X(6) SBUs as connecting nodes, the CuCu interactions of [2.8484(6) A] are markedly shorter, being close to the sum of the Van der Waals radii of two Cu atoms ( approximately 2.8 A). The photophysics of these compounds, which exhibit reversible luminescence thermochromism, has been investigated in detail. The solid-state luminescence spectra of and feature at room temperature intense emissions around 560 and 555 nm, respectively. The luminescence properties of the unusual Cu(6)(mu(3)-I)(6) hexagon prism motif are rationalized by means of DFT and TDDFT computations.Source type: Electronic(1

A análise dos excertos de narrativa poética baseia-se principalmente na teoria de Jean-Yves Tadié (1994).Abstract : The present work aims at proposing a commented retranslation on the novel Paul et Virginie, by the French author Bernardin de Saint-Pierre. As a secondary objective, we propose an analysis of the Brazilian translations of this novel from 1906 to 2008 into the Brazilian literary system under the perspective of "View of Translations" and a study of the translated and not translated paratexts. For both the translational analysis and the retranslation we used representative excerpts from the theoretical principles of Antoine Berman (1995), Gerard Genette (2010), and Lawrence Venuti (1995). The analysis of the excerpts of the poetic narrative is based mainly on Jean-Yves Tadié's theory
Changes in the Plasma Lipid Profile as a Potential Predictor of Clinical Outcome in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever
In 50 consecutive children admitted to the intensive care unit with the clinical diagnosis of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)/dengue shock syndrome (grade III or IV), 20 patients with mild DHF (grade I or II), and 20 healthy control patients, the plasma lipid profile was measured. Levels of total plasma cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein were significantly decreased in patients with the severest cases, compared with patients with mild DHF and healthy controls. Changes in the plasma lipid profile differentiate between patients with different stages of DHF disease severity and could be used as a potential predictor for clinical outcome
