Box hygiëne bij melkkoeien
No full textOp melkveebedrijf Custers is een onderzoek uitgevoerd omtrent box hygiëne en het verbeteren hiervan. Als eerste is er een onderzoek gestart naar de aanleiding en ziektegeschiedenis van het destijds spelende uiergezondheidheids problematiek. Nadat er vastgesteld werd om welke vorm van mastitis het precies ging kon er verder actie ondernomen worden. De E-coli bacterie was de veroorzaker voor de uiergezondheidsproblematiek op melkveebedrijf Custers. Samen met de ondernemer is er vervolgens een onderzoek gestart naar de oorzaak voor het binnendringen en het verder verspreiden van deze vorm van mastitis. Eerst zijn er enkele oorzaken onderzocht zoals: afstelling melkrobots, weerstand koeien, droogstandsmanagement, reinheid water drinkbakken en als laatste box vulling. Alle mogelijke infectiebronnen zijn onderzocht en met goed resultaat uit het onderzoek gekomen. Alleen de box vulling voldeed niet aan de normen van het onderzoek. De box vulling beschikte over een dermate hoge concentratie aan bacteriën die de oorzaak zouden kunnen zijn voor de mastitisproblematiek

No full textDe kans op een zwangerschap na een intra-uteriene inseminatie (IUI) neemt met vijftig procent toe als de vrouw na het inbrengen van het zaad vijftien minuten blijft liggen. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek van Inge Custers. IUI is een behandeling waarbij, in geval van verminderde vruchtbaarheid bij een koppel, het zaad van de man na bewerking wordt ingebracht in de baarmoeder. Vaak gebruikt de vrouw hierbij hormonen, zodat er meerdere eicellen tegelijk tot rijping komen in een cyclus. Custers heeft met modellen proberen te voorspellen hoe groot de kans is op zwangerschap na herhaalde IUI-behandelingen. Uit een andere studie van Custers bleek dat een afwachtend beleid de kans op zwangerschap op lange termijn niet verkleint bij koppels met onverklaarde verminderde vruchtbaarheid met een kans op spontane zwangerschap van dertig tot veertig procent. Het leidt wel tot minder vruchtbaarheidsbehandelingen. Tevens keek Custers bij stellen die IUI ondergingen naar redenen om de behandeling voortijdig te staken, voordat de vrouw zwanger was. Dat bleek het geval bij 28 procent van de koppels, van wie meer dan de helft op eigen initiatief de behandeling afbrak. Een berekening achteraf van de kans op zwangerschap na IUI liet een iets kleinere kans zien voor koppels die stopten dan voor degenen die doorgingen. Dit verschil was klinisch weinig relevant

Promotor was Prof. Dr.Ir.P.J.G.M. de Wit, verbonden aan de leerstoelgroep Fytopathologie, Wageningen Universiteit. Co-promotor was Dr. M.H. Stuiver, Head of Genomics, BASF Plant Science GmbH, Limburgerhof, Duitsland. Het werk beschreven in dit proefschrift werd uitgevoerd bij Syngenta Mogen B.V. (voorheen MOGEN International NV) in Leiden. Een reportage over gen-om-gen resistentie genereren, plantenpathogenen, afweerreacties tegen infecties en interacties tussen de gastheer en het plantenpathogee

Evidence for the decay B0→J/ψω and measurement of the relative branching fractions of meson decays to J/ψη and J/ψη′
No full textFirst evidence of the B 0 → J / ψ ω decay is found and the B s 0 → J / ψ η and B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ decays are studied using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb -1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0 decay:frac(B (B 0 → J / ψ ω), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 0.89 ± 0.19 (stat) - 0.13 + 0.07 (syst),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 14.0 ± 1.2 (stat) - 1.5 + 1.1 (syst) - 1.0 + 1.1 (frac(f d, f s)),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 12.7 ± 1.1 (stat) - 1.3 + 0.5 (syst) - 0.9 + 1.0 (frac(f d, f s)), where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of f d / f s, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of B 0 and B s 0 mesons. The ratio of the branching fractions of B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ and B s 0 → J / ψ η decays is measured to befrac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B s 0 → J / ψ η)) = 0.90 ± 0.09 (stat) - 0.02 + 0.06 (syst)
