Abstract : In this study, I present a discussion about poetic rhythm from the workof Rui Pires Cabral. The research corpus is constituted by poemsbelonging to the two versions of the book A super-realidade (1995;2011) and the book Longe da aldeia (2005). The main objective of thisstudy is to understand how the relationship between the poetic subjectand the contemporaneity formally develops in the poetry of this authorwho opts for the use of free verse, which enables different rhythmicreadings of each poem. Therefore, I articulate a brief history about thecontemporary Portuguese poetry, accompanied by a very general look ofsome formal concepts mobilized in such work in order to understandhow the poetic rhythm contributes to materialize this relationship

This dataset is the result of the research carried out by Silvia Sánchez Calderón (UNED) and Raquel Fernández Fuertes (UVa) in the frame of the Research Group UVALAL (University of Valladolid Language Acquisition Lab, https://uvalal.uva.es/) whose Principal Investigator is Raquel Fernández Fuertes. In this project, the research is conducted on the second language (L2) acquisition of English Dative Alternation (DA) constructions by adult learners whose first language (L1) is Spanish. The results are compared to a control group of L1 English adults. An Acceptability Judgment Task (AJT) was designed for both groups to address grammaticality, sentence structure and word order of the two English DA structures. The two DA structures under analysis involve, on the one hand, prepositional to-datives that alternate as Double Object Constructions (DOCs) (1) and, on the other hand, prepositional for-datives that alternate as DOCs (2). The main aim of this project is to explore the role played by the L2 English learners' L1 in their sensitivity towards the two syntactic variants, with a particular emphasis on the potential crosslinguistic influence effects (or lack thereof) from Spanish into English and the Universal Grammar (UG) effect on their acquisition.UVALAL1. This article analyzes The Wind of Others (2012), by Raquel Ochoa, a contemporary Portuguese author who presents a set of travel chronicles through Cen- tral and South America, from a feminine perspecti- ve in search of identity and questioning the native Other. Passionate about writing and travelling, the author wanders aimlessly like the wind through the Andes from Costa Rica to Patagonia in Argen- tina to emerge in the local culture away from the more commercial tours. As part of travel literature, the search for the Other(s) reveals alterity and traces a critical portrait of the plight of the peoples of Latin America, which result from the processes of coloni- zation and globalization. The personal encounters and adventures blend in a literature of the senses re- vealing the landscapes, the peoples and the winds of Latin America from a transatlantic perspective.

The main purpose of this dissertation is mapping the relationship between biotechnology and human rights. As a current phenomenon, biotechnologies are still a polemic and controversial field, thus enhancing discussions among different areas of knowledge, such as, the subject, his/her rights and obligations, Law and bioethics. Each field is analyzed one by one, aiming to a critical and historical conception of the models which were used to surpass contemporary crises and ruptures. An application of this review emerges through the analysis of two films - Golem (1920) and Blade Runner (1987). Underlying this study, reflections are made about human beings' identity and its moral and ethical implications on scientific research, which are essential for the daily interactions of professionals with people and for the adoption of public policy, to guarantee inclusion and emancipation of citizens

Abstract : This dissertation aims at observing the application of Scliar literacy system to children attending the 1st grade of a private school at Florianópolis and to document the results achieved. Therefore, is an observational and interventionist research. The system is based on the latest discoveries of Neuroscience drawn from experiments that use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG) and magneto-encephalography (MEG), through which one can trace how the brain works during the reading process, providing a new view on the choice of a better method for teaching-learning literacy. In order to verify the intervention effect, which occurred in the school year of 2011, a comparison was set up between the 16 children group submitted to the Scliar literacy system and the control group, also composed of 16 children, submitted to another literacy method. Throughout the research, a planning and a monitoring work was carried out using tools elaborated to this end by professor Scliar-Cabral, such as: Sistema Scliar de Alfabetização (Scliar literacy system) - Guia para o professor (The teacher#s guide) and the book Aventuras de Vivi (Vivi's adventures). In addition, it was used Heinig and Stolf educational games, and assorted texts, which greatly contributed to the final results. The quantitative and qualitative results of the research have confirmed our hypothesis, showing that the experimental group, submitted to the Scliar literacy system, presented higher performance in understanding and reading aloud unknown texts than the control group

Reasonable persuasion: speech in García de la Huerta's Raquel

    Get PDF
This thesis investigates the nature of persuasive speeches made by Hernán García and Raquel in order to persuade King Alfonso to turn his attentions respectively toward the Castillian people and Raquel. Each speech uses particular techniques that are born within the genders of the speakers, and each speech is successful because of these strategies. These speeches reflect the contemporary political atmosphere of the author, García de la Huerta's, literary age and reflect a representation of the events surrounding the Esquilache riots. In this way, the author goes beyond a simple demonstration of the world as it is, but in fact accuses Esquilache of misdeeds by demonstrating him to have fallen into feminine habits of excessive greed and emotion that drive him. The author thus warns Carlos III against such influences that are evidenced in gendered persuasive discourse

The single story of motherhood and work: the relationship between communication and violence in the organizational context

    No full text
Talking about motherhood and the world of work seems like a problem that never adds up, since caregiving demands have been culturally imposed on women by patriarchy, and the capitalist system, which measures productivity by the amount of exclusive time dedicated to work, creates a gap for many women, especially mothers. To this equation, we must add an old and current/neoliberal discourse from organizations that, in their need for labor (mother labor), seek to make the exploitation of these mothers more socially palatable. In this sense, communication within the organizational context (Ferrari; Cabral, 2019) can become a validator of violent discursive/sociocultural practices regarding motherhood in the workplace, while also perpetuating other types of violence (Galtung, 1969), thereby naturalizing organizational violence (Cabral; Gonçalves; Salhani, 2018). Drawing from Adichie’s (2019) reflections on “the dangers of a single story,” we conducted research on the perception of seven working mothers and two mother-managers in the city of Bauru/SP regarding the discourse organizations produce about motherhood and work: how do they perceive themselves as rights-bearing individuals in the face of these discourses? We start from the hypothesis that the single stories reproduced and naturalized by organizational narratives seduce, standardize, silence, and make invisible the violence that working mothers experience in the workplace related to motherhood. Thus, the general objective is to analyze the perception of working mothers regarding organizational narratives related to motherhood/work issues. To achieve this objective, the methodological path adopted a combination of methodologies to address the complexity of the phenomenon. Through an online questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, we aimed to analyze the perception of these nine mothers regarding organizational narratives about motherhood/work, identifying the production of meanings and violent practices that reproduce and naturalize single stories, which simplify and stigmatize them. Although with a small sample of participants, the qualitative approach of in-depth interviews allowed us to explore aspects in detail, providing depth to the analysis, which helps to understand different aspects and factors that contribute to the complexity of the phenomenon. Thus, through content analysis (Bardin, 2011), we understood that communication in organizations reinforces certain narratives that naturalize these stories to such an extent that, even though mothers perceive and recognize violence in the workplace, there is still a discourse capable of seducing them with the logic of neoliberalism and patriarchy, standardizing violent practices, demanding 100% from these mothers, overburdening them with domestic, family, and work-related care simultaneously, and silencing and rendering their stories invisible, stories that are singular and filled with challenges, even within organizations
