A framework for the implementation of the sustainable development goals in university programmes

    No full text
There is a perceived need to develop approaches, methods and tools that may help higher education institutions to systematically introduce the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into research and teaching as an intrinsic part of their programs. However, at present, there is a gap in the literature on the suitable means to do so. This paper addresses this gap by examining the many foci and commitments for and about the SDGs that are currently included in university programs. An overview of the SDGs’ focus at universities was presented using a survey to gather qualitative and quantitative data. . Based on current trends and gaps, this paper identifies the need for a framework which may be of assistance in facilitating the inclusion of the SDGs as a whole, and individually targets in particular in the programs of institutions of higher education. The scientific contribution of this paper value lies in the fact that this is one of the first papers to tackle the need for a framework which caters to a more systematic introduction of the SDGs in university programs. The basis for the framework approach, here introduced, includes institutional, thematic, structural and personal/individual aspects which need to be considered for proper implementation of the SDGs at the university level.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The centre as margin: eccentric perspectives on art

    No full text
Obra editada por: Joana Antunes; Maria de Lurdes Craveiro e Carla Alexandra GonçalvesThe Centre as Margin. Eccentric Perspectives on Art is a multi-authored volume of collected essays that answer the challenge of thinking Art History, and the Arts in a broader sense, from a liminal point of view. Its main goal is thus to discuss the margin from the centre - drawing on its concomitance within study themes and subjects, ontological and epistemological positions, or research methodologies themselves. Marginality, eccentricity, liminality, and superfluity are all part of a dynamic relationship between centre and margin(s) that will be approached and discussed, from the point of view of disciplines as different and as close as art history, philosophy, literature and design, from medieval to contemporary art. Resulting from recent research developed from the privileged viewpoint offered by the margin, this volume brings together the contributions of young researchers along with the work of career scholars. Likewise, it does not obey a traditional or a rigid diachronic structure, being rather organized in three major parts that organically articulate the different essays. Within each of these parts in which the book is divided, papers are sometimes organized according to their timeframes, providing the reader with an encompassing (though not encyclopedic) overview of the common ground over which the various artistic disciplines build their methodological, theoretical, and thematic centers and margins. The intended eccentricity of this volume – and the original essays herein presented – should provide researchers, scholars, students, artists, curators, and the general reader interested in art with a refreshing approach to its various scientific strands.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The subtle power of nudging: consumer choice in ethical and sustainable retailing

    No full text
This study investigates how nudging mechanisms in brand cues and social interactions influence ethical and sustainable consumer behavior in religious markets. Drawing on Nudge Theory, the study proposes a dual‑pathway model to explain how formal signals (logo certification) and informal cues (peer communication) shape green consumption through identity‑driven and spiritually grounded processes. Using Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling on data from 270 Malaysian consumers, the study finds two distinct yet converging nudging effects. Logo certification enhances green behavior directly and indirectly by strengthening brand distinctiveness and prestige. Peer communication promotes Islamic practices and emotional connectedness with Allah, which in turn drives halal green behavior. The model also shows that both logo certification and peer communication have significant direct effects on green consumption intention. This research extends Nudge Theory beyond simple heuristics by incorporating emotional and identity‑based mechanisms situated within religious contexts by integrating institutional, psychological, and religious‑affective pathways. The findings provide theoretical and practical insights into how subtle, value‑aligned interventions can promote sustainable behavior without restricting consumer autonomy.Acknowledgements We would like to express our gratitude to the anonymous reviewers for their efforts to improve the quality of the paper. Mumpreneurship: what is known, how it is known and future agenda

    No full text
Purpose – This study explores the antecedents, decisions and outcomes associated with mumpreneurship. It also reviews the primary theories, contexts and methodologies used in the existing literature on the subject. In addition, this study aims to identify potential future research directions in this field. Design/methodology/approach – A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 protocol and the ADO-TCM framework. A total of 57 articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases were analyzed. R software was used for performance analysis and science mapping. Findings – The antecedents-decisions-outcomes (ADO) framework identified 233 factors grouped into 12 antecedent categories, 2 decisions and 4 outcomes. Antecedents include work-related issues, professional aspects, information and communication technologies, motherhood and childcare, family support, personal aspects, autonomy, independence and flexibility. In addition, financial dimensions, gender issues, societal and community impacts and the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities are integral to the antecedents. Mumpreneurs often start businesses despite challenges. Outcomes include income generation, business expansion, work–family balance and personal well-being. The theorycontext-methodology (TCM) framework highlights a reliance on empirical research, especially qualitative studies, mainly in highly developed countries. Originality/value – This review holds significant theoretical and practical value regarding mumpreneurship. The findings of this research could facilitate the development of programs that aim to foster and promote mumpreneurship through the involvement of various stakeholders, which has noteworthy practical implications for enhancing economic empowerment.Funding: This work was financed by Portuguese national funds through the FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia – under the project with the reference UI/BD/152804/2022.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The impact of calling on angel investing

    No full text
Purpose – What compels business angels (BAs) to invest beyond financial returns? For many, it’s a deeper sense of calling—an alignment of purpose, values, and the desire to create lasting economic and societal impact. Traits like specialised skills, risk-taking, and a commitment to fostering innovation suggest that BAs may find profound meaning in their work. This paper aims to extend the Work as Calling Theory to the BAs’ context, analysing the impact of calling on BAs’ involvement in their work activities and on the value perceived from investing, referred to as the Angel Perceived Investment Value (APIV). Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire survey involving 869 BAs worldwide was carried out. Structural equation modelling was used to test the proposed research model. Findings – The findings indicate a positive correlation between calling and both BAs’ involvement and APIV. Moreover, involvement was found to partially mediate the relationship between calling and APIV, contributing to perceptions of greater value. Originality/value – This study is the first to analyse in depth the impacts of calling within the context of business angels (BAs), focusing specifically on the value they derive from their investment activities. It also uniquely examines the mediating role of involvement in tasks related to the startups, the angel groups and the ecosystem. This research offers actionable suggestions to help BAs better manage the expectations arising from their sense of calling while maximizing the value they derive from their investment activities.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Attitudes toward gender parity initiatives: a comparative study

    No full text
The struggle for gender parity (sustainable development goal 5) sustains a controversial debate among authors, leaders, and organizations. Studies connecting social dominance orientation, status threat, and attitudes towards gender parity initiatives are scant. This article investigates these relationships and their mediators, focusing on gender parity initiatives in three independent studies—Brazil, Canada, and Portugal—comparing data collected from professors and employees in public and private HEIs. Both social dominance orientation (SDO) and status threat influence employees' attitudes towards gender parity initiatives, with SDO being the most important and significant determinant. Canadian employees are more supportive of gender affirmative actions and share a preference for group-based inequality. Employees in all three countries perceive their societies as egalitarian, with a gender parity agenda in place, and no longer requiring efforts for gender equity regardless of the respondents' gender. Intriguing insights on the perceptions and attitudes of those self-identifying as “woman” and “man” were found. This work was supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, 2021.05609.BD, UIDB/04630/2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Brand evangelism: a review and research agenda

    No full text
Brand evangelism has become an increasingly relevant concept in consumer–brand relationship research, yet existing studies remain fragmented, lacking a structured synthesis of its antecedents, mechanisms, and outcomes. This study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) to consolidate current knowledge on brand evangelism, identify key thematic clusters, and highlight research gaps. Using the Antecedents, Decisions, and Outcomes and Theories, Contexts, and Methods frameworks, aligned with the Scientific Procedures and Rationales for Systematic Literature Reviews protocol, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of brand evangelism. A bibliometric analysis of 41 articles, supported by thematic mapping, reveals four primary research clusters: brand-centric relational evangelism, green evangelism, social media evangelism, and emotional evangelism. The findings contribute to both theory and practice by offering a structured research agenda and strategic insights for fostering brand evangelism. This study serves as a foundational resource for scholars and practitioners, guiding future research, and managerial applications in brand evangelism.Funding: This work was supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (UIDB/04928/2020).info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Exploring the intersection of environmental sustainability and anti-consumption: a review and research agenda

    No full text
Given the adverse effects of overconsumption on environmental degradation, there is an urgent need for consumers to transition toward more sustainable consumption patterns, which involve reducing or refusing consumption. This systematic literature review (SLR) explores the intricate relationship between environmental sustainability and anti-consumption behaviors, including minimalism and voluntary simplicity. Through a consumer behavior lens, we aim to understand the intersection of various forms of anti-consumption, examining internal and external drivers, as well as barriers and outcomes. Following a mixed-method approach, this SLR of 69 studies is further complemented by six qualitative interviews with experts on this topic, identifying how consumer decisions to engage in anti-consumption are influenced by a complex interplay of personal motivations and environmental concerns. There is also an interaction between different internal and external drivers, namely religion, personal values, socioeconomic conditions, and (de)marketing strategies. Hence, consumers face some challenges when navigating the complex process of adopting anti-consumption behaviors. The outcomes range from consumer well-being to influencing corporate behavior through buycotts or boycotts. Notably, sustainability can emerge as a by-product of anti-consumption behaviors. We also propose pathways for future research, contributing to the ongoing discourse on sustainable (anti-) consumption.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Metáfora animal e exortação à reflexão no ms. da Crónica de 1344 da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa

    No full text

    No full text
This study aimed to understand how the implementation of the Learning in Circle project has been conducted in School Group A. This project has tried to respond to a set of needs felt in the grouping, in general, and by a group of teachers, in particular. The study focused on the work of educational teams (teachers of 1st and 2nd cycle classes), on the implementation of differentiated and differentiating methodologies, promoting meaningful learning, especially collaborative teaching and learning practices. It was intended to answer a set of five starting questions, relating the collaborative practices, implemented by the pedagogical teams, with the Pedagogical Supervision, the experience of working in pairs, as well as the integration of new teachers in the teams. Seven general objectives were defined, with which it was intended to understand: the way of implementation of the project, the conceptions and experiences of supervision by the teachers involved in the project, the recognition of peer work as a supervisory practice, the consequences of this peer work, both for teachers and students, and also for the students. the way of integrating new teachers. Regarding the Methodology, a case study was conducted, inserted in the interpretative paradigm, using mixed methods. In view of the defined objectives, we outlined a mixed research methodology, using interviews, questionnaire surveys and document analysis as data collection techniques, and statistical analysis (descriptive) and content analysis as data analysis techniques. Specifically, we developed a questionnaire based on the research objectives, which was applied to teachers (n=15) of basic education (1st and 2nd cycle), from group A, as well as a semi-structured interview, applied to teachers of the same levels (n=6). As for the document analysis, it focused on a corpus of national legal documents and monitoring reports on the implementation of the project. The results of the study point to the appreciation of teachers' peer work. Pedagogical Supervision is seen as an integral part of the process, happening naturally between the stakeholders.Este trabalho insere-se Projeto LE@D Nº PTN/UID4372-LEaD/032016, Grupo de Trabalho Currículo e Equidade na Sociedade Contemporânea.
