An overview of the ATLAS High Level Trigger Dataflow and Supervision.

The ATLAS high-level trigger (HLT) system provides software-based event selection after the initial LVL1 hardware trigger. It is composed of two stages, the LVL2 trigger and the event filter (EF). The LVL2 trigger performs event selection with optimized algorithms using selected data guided by Region of Interest pointers provided by the LVL1 trigger. Those events selected by LVL2 are built into complete events, which are passed to the EF for a further stage of event selection and classification using off-line algorithms. Events surviving the EF selection are passed for off-line storage. The two stages of HLT are implemented on processor farms. The concept of distributing the selection process between LVL2 and EF is a key element in the architecture, which allows it to be flexible to changes (luminosity, detector knowledge, background conditions, etc.) Although there are some differences in the requirements between these subsystems there are many commonalities. An overview of the dataflow (event selection) and supervision (control, configuration, monitoring) activities in the HLT is given, highlighting where commonalities between the two subsystems can be exploited and indicating where requirements dictate that implementations differ. An HLT prototype system has been built at CERN. Functional testing is being carried out in order to validate the HLT architecture

Kinetics of Spontaneous and EF-G-Accelerated Rotation of Ribosomal Subunits

SummaryRibosome dynamics play an important role in translation. The rotation of the ribosomal subunits relative to one another is essential for tRNA-mRNA translocation. An important unresolved question is whether subunit rotation limits the rate of translocation. Here, we monitor subunit rotation relative to peptide bond formation and translocation using ensemble kinetics and single-molecule FRET. We observe that spontaneous forward subunit rotation occurs at a rate of 40 s−1, independent of the rate of preceding peptide bond formation. Elongation factor G (EF-G) accelerates forward subunit rotation to 200 s−1. tRNA-mRNA movement is much slower (10–40 s−1), suggesting that forward subunit rotation does not limit the rate of translocation. The transition back to the non-rotated state of the ribosome kinetically coincides with tRNA-mRNA movement. Thus, large-scale movements of the ribosome are intrinsically rapid and gated by its ligands such as EF-G and tRNA

Hi-EF: Benchmarking Emotion Forecasting in Human-interaction

Affective Forecasting, a research direction in psychology that predicts individuals future emotions, is often constrained by numerous external factors like social influence and temporal distance. To address this, we transform Affective Forecasting into a Deep Learning problem by designing an Emotion Forecasting paradigm based on two-party interactions. We propose a novel Emotion Forecasting (EF) task grounded in the theory that an individuals emotions are easily influenced by the emotions or other information conveyed during interactions with another person. To tackle this task, we have developed a specialized dataset, Human-interaction-based Emotion Forecasting (Hi-EF), which contains 3069 two-party Multilayered-Contextual Interaction Samples (MCIS) with abundant affective-relevant labels and three modalities. Hi-EF not only demonstrates the feasibility of the EF task but also highlights its potential. Additionally, we propose a methodology that establishes a foundational and referential baseline model for the EF task and extensive experiments are provided. The dataset and code is available at https://github.com/Anonymize-Author/Hi-EF

Zawiera bibliogr. The dissertation is the analysis of the benefits of traffic shaping using leaky bucket algorithm at the maximum delay in a network, which packets can suffer during transmission over an Differentiated Services (DiffServ) IP network. In the central part of the desideration, the author proposes to use hop-by-hop aggregate-based shaping to decrease delay bounds for network services based on EF PHB. Author's findings are important to understand how aggregate-based shaping can influence performance of DiffServ networks. In the dissertation delay bounds within the boundaries of a DiffServ network with hop-by-hop EF PHB aggregate leaky bucket shaping are considered. First a model of network architecture is derived. Based on this model author formulates a theorem which describes the end-to-end delay bound for EF PHB based services in a DiffServ network where hop-by-hop EF PHB aggregate leaky bucket shaping is applied. Author proves that the application of aggregate-based shaping in a general network architecture with FIFO Guaranteed Rate aggregate scheduling decreases the deterministic end-to-end delay bound for EF PHB based services in DiffServ networks. The statement is true when a service rate of EF PHB aggregate is lower than throughput of a link. Applying a leaky bucket shaping for flows aggregates in each node of the DiffServ domain avoids excessive jitter accumulation in the network.

The object of this thesis was to develop an understanding of EF Education Oy’s marketing tools for EF Kielimatkat for children aged 9 to 18 years. The object was to find out which of the marketing tools that have been successful in reaching the Swedish speaking market within Finland. The author limits the research to only concern the Swedish speaking market in Finland and the marketing methods that are used specifically for this market. EF Kielimatkat is a part of EF Education Oy’s Language training programme and language travel. The theoretical frame of reference in this thesis is based on theories within marketing, service marketing and marketing planning. Different models used within tourism marketing will be presented. The background material for this research was taken from industry literature. The theory is presented in the first half of this thesis. A survey was conducted to support the theory that was used. The survey was conducted during a period of 3 weeks during March 2013 and 21 responses were collected. With the help of the survey the author wanted to get an idea of what the Swedish speaking customers’ thoughts and feelings was towards EF Language travel. The results were good and also some recommendations for further development of the marketing tools used were given. These recommendations will hopefully be used in all future marketing and marketing planning within EF Language travel and its Swedish speaking market in Finland. The aim with the results of the research in this thesis it was considered to get more visibility of the Swedish service that is offered within EF Language travel in order to increase the amount of Swedish speaking travelers. The visibility can be reached through for example advertising brochures, sales promotion and projects specifically tailored for the Swedish speaking market, all of which should be conducted in Swedish.Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on saada selville EF Kielimatkojen 9-8 -vuotiaiden asiakkaiden mielipiteitä yrityksen ruotsinkielisestä markkinoinnista. Tarkoituksena on selvittää, mitkä markkinointikeinot ovat olleet toimivia ja miksi asiakas on valinnut juuri EF Education Oy:n kielimatkan järjestäjäksi ja osaksi omaa kielikoulutustaan. Tutkimus rajataan koskemaan ruotsinkielistä markkinointia ja markkinointikeinoja, joita yritys käyttää. EF Kielimatkat on osa EF Education Oy:n tuoteperhettä. Tutkimukseen on käytetty alan kirjallisuutta. Teoriat esitetään opinnäytetyön ensimmäisellä puoliskolla. Lopullisen markkinointisuunnitelman tueksi on tehty potentiaalisille ruotsinkielisille asiakkaille suunnattu asiakastyytyväisyystutkimus EF Kielimatkojen markkinointikeinoista Surveymonkey-ohjelman avulla. Tutkimukseen osallistui 21 yrityksen potentiaalista asiakasta.

EF-G catalyzes tRNA translocation by disrupting interactions between decoding center and codon-anticodon duplex

    No full text
During translation, elongation factor G (EF-G) catalyzes the translocation of tRNA2-mRNA inside the ribosome. Translocation is coupled to a cycle of conformational rearrangements of the ribosomal machinery, and how EF-G initiates translocation remains unresolved. Here we performed systematic mutagenesis of Escherichia coli EF-G and analyzed inhibitory single-site mutants of EF-G that preserved pretranslocation (Pre)-state ribosomes with tRNAs in A/P and P/E sites (Pre-EF-G). Our results suggest that the interactions between the decoding center and the codon-anticodon duplex constitute the barrier for translocation. Catalysis of translocation by EF-G involves the factor's highly conserved loops I and II at the tip of domain IV, which disrupt the hydrogen bonds between the decoding center and the duplex to release the latter, hence inducing subsequent translocation events, namely 30S head swiveling and tRNA2-mRNA movement on the 30S subunit

Elaborative feedback: Engaging reward and task-relevant brain regions promotes learning in pseudoword reading aloud

    No full text
Although much is known about the cognitive and neural basis of establishing letter-sound mappings in learning word forms, relatively little is known about what makes for the most effective feedback during this process. We sought to determine the neural basis by which elaborative feedback (EF), which contains both reward-related and content-specific information, may be more helpful than feedback containing only one kind of information (simple positive feedback, PF) or the other (content feedback, CF) in learning orthography-phonology (spelling-sound) mappings for novel letter strings. Compared to CF, EF activated the ven- tromedial prefrontal cortex, implicated in reward processing. Compared to PF, EF activated the posterior middle temporal, superior temporal, and supramarginal gyri—regions implicated in orthography-phonology conversion. In the same comparison, EF also activated the left fusiform gyrus/visual word form area—implicated in orthographic processing. Also EF, but not CF or PF, modulated activity in the caudate nucleus. In a postscan questionnaire, EF and PF were rated as more pleasant than CF, suggesting that modulation of the caudate for EF may be due to the coupling of reward and skill content. These findings suggest the enhanced effectiveness of EF may be due to concurrent activation of reward-related and task-relevant brain regions.Peer reviewe
