Framework for risk assessment of product logistic lanes at Novo Nordisk

    No full text
This project has consisted in conducting a quantitative risk assessment of the different productlogistic lanes at Novo Nordisk in order to show compliance with authorities’ requirements. Alane is defined as a combination of parameters/scenarios, for example the transportation mode(airfreight, sea freight or truck), the type of product shipped, the equipment used, and so on. Therisk assessment has been conducted following the major steps in the ISO 31000 [ISO 31000:20018],which are: establishment of the context, hazard identification, risk analysis and risk evaluation. The last step, which is risk treatment is out of the scope of this study. Then, the main objective ofthis project is to construct a final framework that integrates all the phases previously mentionedand facilitates a rigorous picture of the existing risks to the authorities. In order to reach this goal, several procedures involving data processing, statistics and risk management have been developed. Thus, the study starts by reviewing existing literature and methods, with the purpose of findingthose that can be relevant for the project development. Then, the data used is introduced anddescribed, followed by a thorough explanation of the steps generated to clean and process it.Once the data is ready for its use, the methodology followed for conducting the risk assessmentis explained in detail. For the hazard identification part, a silent brainstorming was conductedby the author of this project and two experienced members in risk management from the DTUManagement engineering department. In the risk analysis phase, fault trees, cause-consequencediagrams and statistical procedures like correlation analysis and distribution fitting were used. Then, in order to evaluate risk, a methodology derived from societal risk evaluation was developed.Even though risk matrices were also considered for this purpose, they were dismissed due tothe several problems and inaccuracies that they present. The results obtained from the riskassessment showed that Novo Nordisk has an excellent set-up for its transportation processesand that the amount of risk identified in the different logistic lanes is acceptable. Finally, it hasbeen concluded that the initial objectives were satisfied and the new methodology validated bythe use of existing risk analysis theory and the amount of data usedOutgoin

The sacred choral music of Francis Poulenc: a contextual and analytical study

    No full text
Poulenc is perhaps best known for his instrumental works, for his adherence to the aesthetics of Neo-classicism, and his place among the Parisian intellectual circles in tJie 1920s and 1930s in which his friend, Jean Cocteau, played a central role. This essentially secular side of Poulenc's creativity was, after the composer's return to Roman Catholicism in 1936, challenged by a need to express a newly-found religious conviction in sacred music. Consequently Poulenc, who had been accustomed to the secular aesthetics of Neo-classicism of Parisian artistic life and the French capital's concert halls, found it necessary to 'rediscover' and assimilate the language of French church music and its history (notably through the filter of the Cecilian Movement, Niedermeyer and the pkinchant of Solesmes) in order to create for himself an appropriate 'sacred style’ that could also incorporate those essential elements of his characteristically playful and sensual, 'secular' language. This study aims to explore this confrontation of styles and how Poulenc successfully forged a cohesive and congruent language for his sacred works. The opening chapters have several distinct perspectives: chapter one outlines the tortuous history of the Church's relationship with the State in France dating back to the pivotal effects of the 1789 Revolution, in an attempt to provide a necessary context for the importance that Poulenc and his predecessors and contemporaries (most significantly Debussy) attached to the past; chapter two, by contrast, discusses some of the principal issues at the heart of Parisian artistic society in the early decades of the twentieth century and focuses on the lively artistic community which existed in Paris with the influx of large numbers of foreign musicians (particularly Americans and Russians) and artists, the emergence of 'Les Six' (of which Poulenc was a member) and the artistic leadership and inspiration given by figures such as Jean Cocteau, Serge Diaghilev and Igor Stravinsky. Cocteau and Stravinsky, indeed, had a huge impact on the young Poulenc. The second part of the thesis is an analytical study of Poulenc's sacred works (putting aside the Gloria, Stabat Mater and Sept Repais de Tetibres which are unmistakably concert works) and connects these analyses with the issues presented in the earlier chapters, beginning with the emotionally powerful Litanies a la vierge noire for women’s voices, composed soon after his Catholic faith returned in 1936, and ending with the decidedly hard-edged, Stravinskian Neo-classicism, yet relative placidity, of the Laudes de Saint Antoine de Padoue for men's voices, completed in Cannes in 1959. Central to the analytical discussion are the well known eclectic Mass in G (1937), the dramatic Quatre motets pour un temps de penitence (1939) and the stylistically distilled Quatre petite prieres de Saint Francois d'Assise which display the greatest variety of style and form and which combine to present significant examples of Poulenc's skilful unification of sacred and secular, ancient and modem sound worlds

Biological, clinical and population relevance of 95 loci for blood lipids

    No full text
Plasma concentrations of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides are among the most important risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) and are targets for therapeutic intervention. We screened the genome for common variants associated with plasma lipids in >100,000 individuals of European ancestry. Here we report 95 significantly associated loci (P<5 x 10(-8)), with 59 showing genome-wide significant association with lipid traits for the first time. The newly reported associations include single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) near known lipid regulators (for example, CYP7A1, NPC1L1 and SCARB1) as well as in scores of loci not previously implicated in lipoprotein metabolism. The 95 loci contribute not only to normal variation in lipid traits but also to extreme lipid phenotypes and have an impact on lipid traits in three non-European populations (East Asians, South Asians and African Americans). Our results identify several novel loci associated with plasma lipids that are also associated with CAD. Finally, we validated three of the novel genes-GALNT2, PPP1R3B and TTC39B-with experiments in mouse models. Taken together, our findings provide the foundation to develop a broader biological understanding of lipoprotein metabolism and to identify new therapeutic opportunities for the prevention of CAD

    No full text
In this work, we investigate the meaning effects produced by the use of causal connectives “portanto”, “por isso” and “consequentemente” in argumentative dissertations written in the context of the Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (ENEM). Anchored in studies developed by Ferrari (2015; 2019) on the use of causal connectives in Brazilian Portuguese, we examine the construal built in the texts that compose our corpus, proceeding to an investigation of the emergence of the phenomenon of subjectivity - the insertion that the author makes of himself in the enunciative scene described - in front of the uttered causality relations. In this way, it was possible to understand the differences in the levels of subjectivity instantiated by the use of each of the analyzed connectives. With these results, we intend to provide the foundations for future reflections on the teaching of cohesive resources in basic education, aiming at planning pedagogical practices capable of educating critical readers and speakers/authors aware of their lexical choices.

Russia's European agenda and the Baltic states

    No full text
Russia has always been a primary factor in the development of the Baltic States. It is impossible to analyse Baltic security without looking into the processes inside Russia and the prevailing trends vis-a-vis the Baltic States. However, the changes in the Baltic security landscape in the 21st century lack a comprehensive analysis. This thesis seeks to bridge the gap. Two key aims are being pursued in this thesis. The first is to present an analysis of Russia's European agenda under President Vladimir Putin and to examine the place of the Baltic States in this agenda. The second aim is to define Russia-related threats and challengers to the Baltic States, as well as prospects in Russo-Baltic relations. To attain these aims, inter-active approach to international relations, comprising three levels of analysis - the international system, the nation state (domestic level) and the individual (personality) level - has been applied. The neo-realist paradigm of international relations theory, comparative analysis and the Knudsen model, which addresses the peculiarities of relations between great powers and small states, are the methodological framework of the thesis. When analysing the development of Russo-Baltic relations in 1990-2006, this thesis focuses on the evolution of the Baltic States from factors to actors and their chance of shaping Russo-Baltic relations from within the enlarged EU and NATO. It also examines possibilities for more active engagement of Russia in the Baltic region. The thesis concludes with an analysis of perspectives for the Baltic States in countering Russia-related threats and building cooperativer elations with Russia. The author maintains that 'high politics' in Russo-Baltic relations has ended, yet, the tensions do remain in 'low politics'. Russia seeks to retain her political and economic influence in the Baltics by exploiting various tools, primarily economic levers and Baltic dependence upon Russian energy
