    Usnea barbata L. merupakan liken yang memiliki talus dengan tipe fruticose, berwarna hijau muda. U.barbata L. Mengandung senyawa flavonoid, saponin,tanin,alkaloid dan steroid. Senyawa lain yang dimiliki U. barbata L. yaitu terdapat asam usnat. U. barbata L. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui esktrak liken dalam menghambat pertumbuhan rumput teki dan untuk mengatahui konsentrasi yang efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan rumput teki. Penelitian dilakukan dari September 2024-Maret 2025 di Gedung basis science Universitas Bengkulu. Metode penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 perlakukan dan 4 ulangan. Terdiri dari Kontrol negatif menggunakan aquades, ekstrak liken 50%, 62,5%, 75% dan kontrol positif menggunakan Gramoxone. Variabel yang diamati meliputi: Tinggi tanaman, Jumlah daun, berat basah dan berat kering, serta Fitotoksisitas gulma rumput teki (Cyperus rotundus L.). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak liken U. barbata L. mampu menghambat pertumbuhan rumput teki C. rotundus L. berdasarkan hasil uji statistik pada pengamatan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat basah, berat kering dan fitotoksisitas. L. Konsentrasi Ekstrak liken U. barbata L. yang paling efektif dalam penelitian ini adalah 75%, karena memiliki pengaruh/efek yang sama dengan kontrol positif (gramoxone) terhadap variabel tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat basah, berat kering, dan intensitas kerusakan. Sementara, konsentrasi 62,5% hanya menunjukkan efektivitas yang sama dengan konsentrasi 75% dan kontrol positif Gramoxone pada variabel tinggi tanaman dan jumlah daun.     Background: Cigarette smoke is a free radical that can disturb human spermatozoa such as the abnormality of membrane and sperm motility. Fenol substance in Cyclea barbata L. Miers have function as antioxidant which can stop free radical chain in lipid peroxidase. This research was directed to prove the effect of extract Cyclea barbata L. Miers to the sperm motility mice Balb/c with cigarette smoke. Methodhs: This experimental research used the post test only control group design. The sample were 35 Balb/c mice which devided into five groups. Control negative goup was only given meal standard. Control positive exposed by cigarette smoke only. Group P1 exposed by cigarette smoke and extract Cyclea barbata L. Miers 3,75 g/l/day. Group P2 exposed by cigarette smoke and extract Cyclea barbata L. Miers 7,5 g/l/day. Group P3 exposed by cigarette smoke and extract Cyclea barbata L. Miers 15 g/l/day. This experimental lasted for 21 days. On the 22th all mice were terminated and the sperm motility was examined. Result: Mean of spem motility: group K(-)=74,94; group K(+)=10,64; Group P1=45,80; Group P2=53,40; Group P3=39,54. Kruskal Wallis test shown significant difference spem motility in all group (p<0,05). Man whitney test also shown significant difference between K(-) with K(+), K(+) with P1 and K(+) with P2. Conclusion: Extract Cyclea barbata L. Miers giving effect to the sperm motility Balb/c mice with cigarette smoke significant.     Background: Cyclea barbata L. Miers is proven to contain phenol having function of as antioxidant. Antioxidant has the function of reducing the effectof free radicals. Cigarette can be one of free radicals that can reduce the amount of sperm. This research has the objective of proving the influence of the application of antioxidant contained in Cyclea barbata L. Miers on the amount of spermatozoa of the male Balb/c mice exposed to cigarette smoke. Method: The design of this research is the post test only control group design, using the Balb/c strain mice as samples. Thirty-five mice fulfilled the inclusive and exclusive criteria, devided into five treatment groups; two control groups, which are negative control (no treatment) and positive control (cigarette smoke applied), and three treatment groups applied with cigarette smoke plus stepped dosages of Cyclea barbata L. Miers, which are 3,75g/l, 7,5g/l, and 15g/l. Examination of the amount of sperm in every sample is conducted using the counting chamber. The data are desribed in from of tables. One Way Anova, and Post Hoct Test, which is LSD, are conducted using SPSS 13 for windows. Result: The Average amount of spermatozoa are: Control group (-)=13,6; Control group (+)=5,2; Treatment 1 group=8,1; Treatment 2 group=8,6; and Treatment 3 group=6,4. The One Way Anova Test, p=0,0, meaning that data there are significant differences in all groups. From the LSD test, there are significant differences between C(-) and all groups and C(+) and T1 and T2. Conclusion: The application of Cyclea barbata L. Miers leaf extract is proven to influence the amount of sperm due to the exposition to cigarette smoke. From the research results, it can be seen that the 7,5g/l dosage has the better effect compared to the 3,75g/l and 15g/l. Keywords: cigarette smoke, Cyclea barbata L. Miers, amount of spermatozo

    FORMULATION OF ANTIOXIDANT GEL FROM STANDARDIZED GREEN CINCAU (CYCLEA BARBATA L. MIERS) ETHANOLIC EXTRACT

    Objective: The aim of this study to develop an antioxidant gel from standardized green cincau (Cyclea barbata L. Miers) ethanolic extracts. Methods: The standardized&nbsp;extract of green cincau (Cyclea barbata L. Miers) ethanolic extracts were formulated as active ingredients of antioxidant gel. The dried leaf of Cyclea barbata L Miers was extracted with ethanol 70%. The extract was analyzed its phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity with DPPH methods. The extract was used as active ingredients of antioxidant gel. The gels were evaluated physically and chemically, such as organoleptic test, homogeneity, viscosity and rheology, spreadability, pH test, antioxidant activity, and analysis of microbial contamination test. Results: The results showed that all formulas were greenish-yellow and have homogeneous, the viscosity of 14267-45533 cps, spreadability of gels 1783.8–6631.5 mm2, pH value of 4.57–5.74, and analysis of microbial contamination has colonies not more than 103 colonies/g or colonies/ml. Statistical analysis used two ways ANOVA to investigate gels time and temperature effects toward gel preparations stability. There was no effect on the viscosity, spreadability, and pH tests, on the all formula with P&gt;0.05. The antioxidant activity of the formula showed that all formulas changed after 3 mo of storage at 40 °C. Formula II had stronger antioxidant activity than the others with an IC50 value of 57.60µg/ml. Conclusion: All formulas showed fairly strong antioxidant activity because it can inhibit the activity of free radicals that could inhibit the premature aging of the skin

    Gulma bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) adalah tanaman liar yang dapat menimbulkan gangguan dan kerugian bagi tanaman budidaya. Sehingga perlu dikendalikan dengan penggunaan herbisida karena dianggap motode yang cepat dan efisien. Sementara itu liken (Usnea barbata L.) merupakan tumbuhan epifit dengan bentuk talus fruticose, berwarna hijau muda yang biasanya tumbuh menempel pada kulit batang pohon afrika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak liken U. barbata L. dalam menghambat pertumbuhan gulma berdaun lebar bandotan A. conyzoides L. dan mengetahui konsentrasi liken yang efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan gulma bandotan A. conyzoides L. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2024 - April 2025. Metode Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari kontrol negatif menggunakan aquades, ekstrak liken konsentrasi 50%, 62,5%, 75%, dan kontrol positif menggunakan Gramoxone. Variabel yang diamati meliputi: tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat kering, serta fitoksitas gulma A. conyzoides L. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak U. barbata L. efektif dalam menghambat pertumbuhan gulma berdaun lebar bandotan (A. conyzoides). Pada perlakuan konsentrasi ekstrak 75% memiliki efektivitas penghambatan pertumbuhan gulma bandotan yang efektif pada variable tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat kering dan intensitas kerusakan. Dosis ekstrak yang efisien digunakan adalah pada konsentrasi 62,5% hal tersebut dikarenakan sudah terlihat penghambatan pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun dan dilihat pada intensitas kerusakan daun.     Minuman gel cincau hijau dibuat tanaman Cyclea barbata L Miers atau Premna oblongifolia Merr dan telah dikenal sebagai makanan selingan yang digemari, murah dan tersedia. Penelitian terdahulu telah memperliharkan bahwa extrak air daun Cyclea barbata L Miers dapat menekan pertumbuhan sel kanker K562 dan cervix Hela sebesar 61-94% dan 31% berturut-turut. Extrak tidak menstimulir pertumbuhan sel limfosit dan makrofag manusia, menurunkan lisis sel mastosit in vitro dan tidak menghambat pertumbuhan sel normal.     Indonesian people still favor the use of traditional medicine because they believe its side effects are lower than synthetic drugs. One of the plants that can be used in traditional medicine is Cyclea barbata L. Miers, or green grass jelly. This study aimed to explain and summarize the traditional use, phytochemical content, and pharmacological activity of C. barbata. All information on C. barbata was collected from various electronic databases (Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed) using important and related keywords. Secondary metabolites found in stems, roots, and leaves are alkaloids and flavonoids. The pharmacological activities of C. barbata include antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-plasmodial, immunomodulator, Alzheimer, anti-inflammatory, anti-cholesterol, and antiulcer. Although C. barbata has been used empirically, further research is still needed to ensure the effectiveness and safety of this plant

    Non-conventional separation procedure - supercritical fluid CO2&nbsp;extraction (SFE-CO2) conforms to the strict demands of the precise process eco-technologies. It represents a perspective method especially in obtaining eco-friendly extracts from vegetable and animal raw materials. The influence of operating parameters (raw material’ granulation, extraction fluid’ flow rate, operating pressure, operating temperature and extraction time) on the yield of extract and usnic acid, has been studied throughout the extraction process on Usnea barbata L., by application of supercritical CO2&nbsp;(SFE-CO2). The separation process in all experiments was conducted at operating temperature of 25 °C and operating pressure of 50-55 bar.     Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh konsentrasi cincau hijau varietas tidak berbulu (Cyclea barbata L. miers) terhadap kualitas mikrobia hasil samping cincau susu (whey). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Industri Pengolahan Hasil Ternak Program Studi Peternakan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta dan Laboratorium Uji Teknologi Pangan dan Hasil Pertanian, Fakultas Teknologi Hasil Pertanian, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta pada Januari sampai Maret 2016. Materi yang digunakan adalah susu sapi Peranakan Friesian Holstein dan cincau hijau (Cyclea barbata L. miers). Metode penelitian dan desain penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) pola searah dengan tiga perlakuan dan sembilan ulangan sampel. Adapun perlakuan pada penelitian ini adalah P1 = 10% cincau hijau : 100 ml susu; P2 = 20% cincau hijau : 100 ml Susu; P3 = 30% cincau hijau : 100 ml susu. Peubah penelitian ini meliputi grafik pertumbuhan mikrobia, viabilitas, pH, aktivitas air (Aw), total plate count (TPC). Data analisis menggunakan analisis variansi dengan uji lanjut Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian secara dekriptif menunjukkan dengan bertambahnya konsentrasi cincau hijau dapat menurunkan pertumbuhan mikrobia dan viabilitas whey cincau susu.     The secondary metabolites of lichens have proven to be promising sources of anticancer drugs; one of the most important of these is usnic acid, which is a phenolic compound with dibenzofuran structure that is responsible for the numerous biological actions of lichens of genus Usnea. As a result, in this study, we related to this phenolic secondary metabolite. The aim of the present study is the evaluation of the cytotoxic activity of Usnea barbata (L.) F. H. Wigg dry acetone extract (UBE). In advance, the usnic acid content was determined in various extracts of Usnea barbata (L.) F. H. Wigg: the liquid extracts were found in water, ethanol, acetone, and the dry acetone extract; the highest usnic acid quantity was found in the dry acetone extract. First, the cytotoxic action of UBE was assessed using Brine Shrimp Lethality (BSL) test; a significant lethal effect was obtained after 24 h of treatment at high used concentrations of UBE, and it was quantified by the high mortality rate of the Artemia salina (L.) larvae. Secondly, in vitro cytotoxicity of UBE was evaluated on human tongue squamous cells carcinoma, using CAL 27 (ATCC&reg; CRL-2095&trade;) cell line. The most intense cytotoxic effect of UBE on CAL 27 cells was registered after 24 h; this response is directly proportional with the tested UBE concentrations. The obtained results have been reported regarding usnic acid content of UBE, and the data show that CAL 27 cells death was induced by apoptosis and high oxidative stress
