Ibadism in Oman and developments in the field of Christian – Muslim relationships

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Christians and the IbadT of Oman, as a contribution to Christian-Muslim dialogue. The main focus is an assessment of the contribution offered in the past by the small missionary presence, and of the potential scope and areas of dialogue between the recent guest-worker Christian community, and their hosts - a Muslim country growing in international status. The thesis tells the story of a dynamic engagement in dialogue. The history, customs and beliefs of the country will be outlined, with particular emphasis on meeting points with Christian missionaries. The History of the Imams and Seyyids of Oman by SalTl bin Razlk, translated by CP. Badger and published in 1871, is the source of several more recent works consulted. The Journal of the Arabian Mission of the Reformed Church of America, Neglected Arabia/ Arabia Calling: 1892-1962 and the quarterly The Muslim World (from 1911) have been among other main sources. Some of the many books and articles by Samuel Zwemer have been read; he visited Muscat in Oman on several occasions - his brother Peter contracting a fatal illness while serving there. The IbadT believe their understanding of Islam to be close to that of the Prophet Muhammad; individual in faith, they fiercely claim to be orthodox in their interpretation of the Our'an and they are quick to speak out when they think Its essential tenets are being compromised. They can therefore perhaps afford to be relaxed when it comes to living alongside those who are not themselves IbadT and are willing to listen to them with an open mind. Their courteous meeting with the Christians they welcome to their country offers clues in the wider field of Christian-Muslim relations

Saudi Arabia has a unique culture and society, which has influence on the way entrepreneurship is perceived and experienced. Research about entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA) and particularly in Saudi Arabia is, however, still in its infancy. This study is among the first to explore entrepreneurship within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The aim of the present research study is twofold. Firstly, it attempts to assess the appropriateness of using personality traits to explain entrepreneurial intention. Secondly, it explores the possible moderating role of Cultural Disconformity in affecting the relationship between traits and intention. To meet the objectives of the study, this research focuses on the youths of the Kingdom, represented by students of public and private universities. The research utilises the Traits theory and the National Culture theory, as well as the interplay between these two (2) theories to explain Entrepreneurial Intention. The research framework introduces Cultural Disconformity as the moderating variable in affecting the relationship of five (5) selected personality traits as the independent variables; Locus of Control, Innovativeness, Independence, Proactive-ness and Need for Achievement with the dependent variable Entrepreneurial Intention. The research was carried out involving 370 respondents from five (5) public universities in the kingdom. The results of this study found that youths in Saudi Arabia exhibit high intention to choose entrepreneurship as a career choice. The research finds significant relationship between three (3) independent variables; Proactive-ness, Innovativeness and Need for Achievement with Entrepreneurial Intention. The research, however, fails to establish similar relationships between Locus of Control and Independence with Entrepreneurial Intention. Additionally, the research also finds that Cultural Disconformity fails to moderate the relationships between the independent variables and the dependent variable. Despite the limitations of this research, the author provides a comprehensive list of recommendations and suggestions for future research but also give practical proposals to policy makers, universities leaders and other decisions makers, stakeholders in both public and private sectors in designing better policies to achieve the Saudi government’s Vision 2030 which aims to foster entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia

Abdullah Thufail Saputra, a Pakistani-Javanese descendant, was one of the most influential figures in the spread of puritan da'wah in Solo in the 1970s and 1990s. He founded the Majlis Tafsir Al-Qur'an, which is now the largest and most massive Islamic organization in Solo. This study uses a qualitative approach. This study is complemented by essential elements such as observations, as well as in-depth interviews with some of Thufail's closest people. This study also examines some of the necessary documents, especially Thufail era brochures, MTA study recordings, and other documents. This article tries to explore Abdullah Thufail's intellectual journey, starting from his traditional educational background, changing his outlook from a traditional person to later becoming a Salafi-puritan, his missionary struggle, and how he founded and developed the MTA. This paper also discusses the struggle of MTA in accepting the sole principle of Pancasila and how MTA subsequently changed orientation after joining the New Order circle in 1984. The author also argues that the doctrine of zakat and jihad, which Thufail interpreted, became the central pillar for further MTA da'wah

It is a fine book in size and characterization. The book deals with the phenomenon of changing times and conditions of people. It narrates people’s news whose circumstances changed from bliss to misery and from glory to humiliation, and it recorded the interaction of poets of his time with this phenomenon. This research aims to produce the book accurately in a scientific version that is as close as possible to the authentic image presented by the author. To achieve this goal, the researcher followed the generally accepted scientific approach used critically in editing heritage texts. Therefore, the analysis included two parts. Firstly, it highlighted the author and then the book. Secondly, it verified the author’s text, followed by a conclusion and a list of sources and references used to produce this text. The study concluded with several results; the most significant is that the attribution of the book to Abu Abdullah Ahmad bin Khalaf bin Al-Marzban is established beyond doubt, in addition to the fact that Abu Abdullah had a broad knowledge, as reflected in his book where this includes a diverse choice of prose and poetic work.
