Radical Propaganda and Counter-Narrative in Shamsie’s Novel Home Fire: The Case of Parvaiz Pasha
This research analyzes how narrative propaganda is used by Farooq's character to recruit Parvaiz Pasha in Kamila Shamsie's Home Fire, and how these narratives can be countered through ideological and affective approaches. The background of this research is based on the increasing phenomenon of radicalization that is not only caused by political or economic factors, but also by the power of narratives that shape a person's identity and meaning of life. The purpose of this research is to uncover three forms of Farooq's propaganda narratives containing familial legacy, masculine struggle, and utopian promise, and construct a counter-narrative that can challenge and undermine these ideological influences. This research uses Luc Herman and Bart Vervaeck's theory of narrative as ideology, which explains that narratives are never neutral, but always carry certain values and ideologies. The theory is supported by Jowett and O'Donnell's concept of propaganda, which emphasizes the importance of symbolic strategies in influencing perceptions, and Henry Giroux's concept of counter-narrative, which sees counter-narrative as a form of cultural resistance and critical education. The method used is narrative analysis with a qualitative textual analysis approach, focusing on character dialog and narrative description in the text in Parvaiz Pasha's chapter. The results show that Farooq's propaganda is effective as it exploits Parvaiz's emotional emptiness and search for meaning. However, the narrative can be countered through the affirmation of individual agency, the redefinition of family love as a progressive force, and the recognition of the complexity of life that cannot be simplified by ideological promises. In conclusion, counter-narratives that are reflective, supportive, and contextual can be an important strategy in preventing the influence of extremist propaganda in the realm of fiction and social reality

Result: The findings show that both companies utilize AI and ML to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. However, JULO prioritizes speed and scalability, while ALAMI integrates Sharia principles such as justice, transparency, and the avoidance of riba.
Implication: The study highlights the importance of aligning AI innovation with ethical and Sharia values in Islamic fintech development.
Originality: This study offers a comparative, value-based analysis of AI-driven fintech from conventional and Sharia perspectives in Indonesia
The Protection of Social Harmony: A Critical Study on the Prohibition of Cohabitation in Islamic Law and the Criminal Code (KUHP)
This study analyzes the legal policy regulating the prohibition of living together without marriage from the perspective of Islamic law and the Criminal Code, as well as its implications for social order. This research uses a normative juridical method with a legislative, comparative legal, and conceptual approach. In addition, primary legal sources are the Quran, Hadith, and the Criminal Code, while secondary legal sources are books, journals, and news. The interpretation used is systematic and grammatical. The findings reveal that Islamic law prohibits cohabitation, considering it a form of zina (adultery/fornication) that undermines family values and societal morals. Meanwhile, the KUHP does not explicitly regulate cohabitation but uses provisions such as 'indecent acts' or 'cohabitating as spouses without marriage' (Article 284) to penalize offenders. While this prohibition aims to protect public order, it has also sparked criticism regarding privacy rights and individual freedoms. The study concludes that although the ban on cohabitation has moral and social justifications, a more balanced approach is needed to reconcile public interests with human rights
Subleasing of Leased Land in Islamic Law: An Empirical Study of Ijarah Practices in Perum Kencana Asri
This study aims to analyze the practice of renting back leased land to third parties in Perum Kencana Asri, Pucangan, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, from the perspective of the ijarah agreement in Islamic law. The research is motivated by the recurring phenomenon of tenants subletting leased property without explicit permission from the owner, which raises legal and ethical issues in both Islamic jurisprudence and Indonesian regulations. Using a qualitative field research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with homeowners, primary tenants, and third-party stall renters, supported by lease documents as secondary material. The findings show that the subletting practice fulfills the pillars and requirements of an ijarah contract, such as competent contracting parties, clear benefits, mutual consent, and agreed rental compensation, although initial permission from the owner was given only after the practice had already taken place. The research also reveals that while Indonesian law generally prohibits subleasing without the owner’s approval, Islamic jurisprudence supported by the majority of scholars and DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 112/2017 permits it as long as the owner consents and no contractual harm arises. This study contributes to the discipline by providing an empirical analysis that bridges normative muamalah principles with real community rental practices
Setiap sendang merepresentasikan tahapan filosofis perjalanan hidup manusia, mulai dari memiliki tekad, kerja keras, ketenangan batin, tanggung jawab, hingga pencarian keabadian
Artificial intelligence-assisted project-based learning: Examining the interaction with learning creativity on the students’ digital content outcomes
Despite the rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, limited empirical evidence compares the effectiveness of AI-assisted project-based learning (PjBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) while considering students’ learning creativity in digital content production. This study aims to examine the effects of AI-assisted PjBL and AI-assisted PBL, as well as their interaction with students’ learning creativity, on learning outcomes in digital content production. The study employs a 2×2 quasi-experimental factorial design, in which factor (A) represents the learning model (AI-assisted PjBL and AI-assisted PBL) and factor (B) represents learning creativity (high and low). The population consists of eighth-grade students at the junior high school level. The findings address four hypotheses: (1) there is a significant difference in learning outcomes between students receiving AI-assisted PjBL and those receiving AI-assisted PBL (Sig. 0.043 < 0.05); (2) there is a significant interaction effect between AI-assisted learning models and learning creativity (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05); (3) students with high creativity who receive AI-assisted PjBL achieve higher learning outcomes than those receiving AI-assisted PBL (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05); and (4) students with low creativity who receive AI-assisted PjBL demonstrate lower learning outcomes than those receiving AI-assisted PBL (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). These findings indicate that AI-assisted PjBL and learning creativity enhance students’ learning outcomes in producing creative digital content, particularly for students with high learning creativity. This study contributes empirical evidence to the integration of AI in junior high school computer science education
The Hybridity of Confectionery in the Jajanan Manuscript NB 499: A Linguistic and Cultural Review
Manuscripts serve as historical documents containing a wealth of information, from historical chronicles to culinary notes that reflect the community's habits and attitudes. This study focuses on the Jajanan (snacks) manuscript (code NB 499) at the National Library of Indonesia, dated circa 1931. The objective of this research is to analyze how linguistic and cultural hybridization is manifested within the snack names and recipes recorded in the text. The study employs a descriptive-qualitative approach within an ethnolinguistic theoretical framework. Data were analyzed using the close reading method, integrated with the distributional method to examine linguistic elements and the referential method to interpret non-linguistic aspects such as vernacularization and hybridization. The results indicate that the snack names are predominantly attributive phrases reflecting a blend of Javanese and foreign cultures (Dutch, French, and English). The findings reveal a process of vernacularization through phonetic adjustments to fit the Javanese phonological system. This phenomenon demonstrates the Javanese community's ability to harmonize and adapt colonial influences into their local cultural identity through adaptive linguistic production
Institutional Roles of Islamic Microfinance in Countering Informal Moneylenders: Evidence from Rural Communities
Purpose: This study examines the role of PNM Mekaar Syariah in preventing the expansion of informal moneylending practices in rural communities, particularly among women micro entrepreneurs with limited access to formal financial services. It focuses on how Islamic microfinance mechanisms and group based empowerment reduce dependence on usurious lending.
Method: A qualitative ethnographic approach was employed through participant observation, semi structured interviews, and field immersion within selected rural beneficiary groups. Data were thematically analyzed to capture patterns of financial behavior, social capital formation, and changes in borrowing practices.
Results: The findings indicate that PNM Mekaar Syariah strengthens financial discipline, enhances entrepreneurial capacity, and builds trust based social capital through group financing structures. Beneficiaries demonstrate increased financial autonomy and a notable decline in reliance on informal moneylenders. Nevertheless, the study identifies the need for continuous financial education and digital payment integration to ensure long term sustainability.
Implication: The study highlights Islamic microfinance as an effective community based strategy for preventing predatory lending and promoting sustainable financial inclusion in rural areas.
Originality: This research offers ethnographic insights into Islamic microfinance by integrating social, behavioral, and religious dimensions in addressing informal moneylending practices in rural Indonesia
Global Uncertainty in Moderating Macroeconomics on Banking Stability in Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia
Purpose: This study analyzes the role of the World Uncertainty Index (WUI) in moderating the influence of macroeconomic conditions namely GDP, inflation, and exchange rate on the stability of Islamic banking in Indonesia during 2015 Q1 – 2024 Q4.
Method: A quantitative approach was used through multiple linear regression and Moderated Regression Analysis with 40 quarterly data from the Financial Services Authority, Trading Economics, and FRED. Stability was measured using Z scores.
Results: Gross Domestic Product and inflation have a significant positive effect on stability with coefficients of β = 0.704421 and β = 0.191898, respectively. The exchange rate is not significant. The World Uncertainty Index has a significant negative effect with β = 18.74672. As a moderator, the World Uncertainty Index strengthens the effect of Gross Domestic Product and exchange rate and weakens the effect of inflation. The R-squared value of 0.771887 indicates a strong explanatory power of the model.
Implications: The results of the study emphasize the need for adaptive macroprudential policies to maintain the stability of Islamic banking amid increasing global uncertainty.
Originality: This study contributes by including global uncertainty as a moderating variable, thereby broadening the understanding of the determinants of Islamic banking stability
Instagram use and online subjective well-being among early adolescents: The mediating role of informational gratifications
Previous studies have mainly emphasized the negative impacts of social media and focused on affective and social mechanisms, while cognitive mechanisms such as informational gratification remain underexplored. This study examines the role of informational gratification as a mediator between Instagram use and online subjective well-being (OSWB) among early adult college students. Using a survey design, data were collected from 142 students aged 18–25 years at Tiga Serangkai University through the Instagram Use Scale (ω = 0.85), Information Satisfaction Scale (ω = 0.96), and OSWB Scale (ω = 0.92), and analyzed using mediation analysis in JASP. Results show that Instagram use positively affects OSWB (β = 0.248, p = 0.002) and informational gratification (β = 0.594, p < 0.001). Informational gratification also positively affects OSWB (β = 0.431, p < 0.001) and partially mediates this relationship (β = 0.256, p < 0.001). These findings highlight the importance of cognitive mechanisms in understanding the psychological benefits of Instagram use
