    Malaysia has always been open to ideas and influences from both East and West. It is riches with tremendous architectural historic of great artistry and it is showing many cultural influences are ranging from the simplest built shelters to the mega projects of the late 20th century. Somehow, this beautiful and unique architectural are expose to the danger of fire. The reasons why the historic buildings are expose to danger of fire because the element of the building itself. The elements are majority from combustible materials like timber and also other fabric that poor in fire resistance. Plus, the requirement of fire safety on the building is very poor since it's built without any concern on fire safety requirement. Lessons of major fires of historic buildings such as National Museum building, High Court building Kuala Lumpur, Rumah Pak Ali and Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Museum which is burnt almost the building. Hence, there should be a determination to upgrade fire resistance at historic building to ensure that the danger of fire can be avoided. This dissertation will cover on identifying the fire requirement on historic building where these requirements will be look into written regulations and others related act that has been amended. Furthermore, the selected buildings (National Heritage) will be examined of their compliances for the fire safety. At the end of this dissertation, some recommendations and suggestions in upgrading the current fire safety to a better condition will be spelled out. This research will be conducted with interviews, site observations and distributing questionnaires to the building occupant. Plus, the references are made from the internet and books to gain more information and idea to develop this research

    This paper considers testing exponentiality against new better than average renewal failure rate (NBARFR) alternatives. The percentiles of this test statistic are tabulated for simple sizes 5(1)50. Pitman's asymptotic efficiencies relative to the tests of the new better than used (NBU), new better than used failure rate (NBUFR) and new better than used renewal failure rate (NBURFR) (Amhmed, 1994; Hendi et al., 2000 and Mahmoud and Abdul Alim, 2002).     The title of this research is “Brown Field Sand Management: Acoustic Sand Monitoring”. The field is a 40 years old oilfield with a history of sand production problem. Recently the production surveillance has employed a 3rd party to do an acoustic sand monitoring to see the sand trending. The objective of this paper was to use the acoustic sand monitoring data to calculate the sand rate. From the acoustic data the sand rate for each wells was obtained. From the sand rate the Pound Per Thousand Barrel (PPTB) value for each well are calculated. Based on these values choke size are suggested for choke optimization. Based on the results only well B58s are suggested to be bean down while other wells are suggested to be bean up

    Abstrak   Penelitian ini bertujuan utuk mengetahui proses modernisme pendidikan pondok pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambak Beras Jombang yang dimulai sejak tahun 1926-1971 ketika Abdul Wahab Chasbullah menjadi pimpinan pondok pesantren tersebut. Awalnya memang mendapat tantangan dari Ayahnya sendiri yang sebagai pimpinan pondok sebelumnya menolak metode pengajaran pondok yang dianggap mirip dengan metode pengajaran colonial yang kafir. Perjuangan yang gigih dan pantang menyerah akhirnya restu dari sang ayah yaitu Chasbullah datang dan bahkan mendukung penuh. Proses modernism pondok pesantren semakin nyata terlihat ketika madrasah pertamakali berhasil didirikan yang diberi nama Mubdilfan pada tahun 1915. Kejeniusan dan kedalaman ilmu pengetahuan Abdul Wahab Chasbullah membuat pondok pesantren Bahrul Ulum semkin maju pesat, hal itu dapat dibuktikan dengan banyaknya santri yang belajar disana dan lulusannya banyak yang menjadi Alim Ulama besar dalam Ilmu pengetahuan agamanya dan mantap Ilmu pengetahuan umumnya.   Kata kunci: K.H.     Modeling the mass transfer coefficients (MTCs) of PCBs, PAHs, OCPs, and PCDD/Fs using a water surface sampler (WSS)

    In this study, the mass transfer coefficients (MTCs) characterizing the air-water exchange of PCDD/Fs were investigated. Evaporation and dissolved oxygen (DO) experiments were carried out using a water surface sampler (WSS), and the MTCs of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) were then modeled based on the data obtained from these experiments. As a result of the calculations made using the evaporation flux observed in the WSS, the average air-side individual MTC [kg (H2O)] was determined as 1.33 ± 0.58 cm/s kg (H2O) values were correlated against u10, and a model for the WSS was derived. The water-side individual MTC [(kw (O2)] for oxygen was calculated using two methods, flux and absorption. According to the results of the calculations, kw (O2) values were determined as 9.35 × 10−4 ±7.65 × 10−1 cm/s and 1.30 × 10−3 ±6.60 × 10−1 cm/s by flux and absorption methods, respectively. The obtained kw (O2) values were also correlated against u10, and kw(O2)_flux and kw(O2)_abs models were constructed for the WSS. Consequently, by applying the findings to the two-film theory, the overall MTC [Kg (SVOCs)] in the gas phase was calculated as 0.03 ± 0.03 cm/s for PCBs, 0.19 ± 0.18 cm/s for PAHs, 0.11 ± 0.08 cm/s for OCPs, and 0.07 ± 0.01 cm/s for PCDD/Fs. MTC values showed seasonal variation, with higher values observed during cold periods. There was also an oscillation in the MTCs among the species of SVOCs. When the chlorine number and molecular weight increased, the MTCs also increased. The results found by modeling are in line with the measurement results obtained by using the WSS but are somewhat lower

    Direct measurements and comparisons of dry deposition fluxes and velocities of PCDD/Fs with two samplers

    Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs) are toxic and persistent pollutants that raise concerns due to their accumulative characteristics in the environments and biota. Atmospheric PCDD/Fs can enter various recipient environments and impact the entire ecosystem, thereby arousing more attention. Dry deposition is deemed the dominant migration pathway of atmospheric PCDD/Fs owing to their predominant distributions in the particulate phase. So far, however, there is no universally accepted method and device for dry deposition sampling. Here, we selected two widely used dry deposition samplers that work in different modes, water surface sampler (WSS) and wet-dry deposition sampler (WDDS), and investigated their differences in dry deposition sampling of PCDD/Fs. The average monthly total (∑17 PCDD/Fs) dry deposition fluxes (FP) in the particulate phase measured with the WSS and WDDS were 314 ± 158 pg/m2-day (36.6 ± 24.6 pg I-TEQ/m2-day) and 108 ± 39.4 pg/m2-day (11.4 ± 5.21 pg I-TEQ/m2-day), respectively. The difference between flux values indicated their collection efficiencies and artifacts during the sample collection. Higher dry deposition fluxes were measured in winter. This was mainly due to higher atmospheric levels of PCDD/Fs in colder months. The highest and lowest values of PCDD/Fs in both samplers were observed for OCDD and 2,3,4,6,7,8-HxCDF, respectively. This could indicate parallel collection characteristics of both samplers. A high-volume air sampler was used simultaneously with the WSS to determine the ambient air concentrations. Then, dry deposition velocities (Vd) were calculated by dividing the dry deposition fluxes (Fp) by the particulate phase concentrations (Cp) for each PCDD/F congener. The mean dry deposition velocity for PCDD/F congeners was determined with the WSS and WDDS 1.71 ± 0.88 cm/s and 0.64 ± 0.39 cm/s, respectively. Furthermore, the study underscored that water surfaces and shorter sampling periods provided more reliable values for particulate PCDD/F deposition than steel surfaces with prolonged exposure due to the degradation and volatilization effects observed on the latter
