In his introduction the author of this polemic indicates the phenomenon of "reductio ad absurdum" of Znaniecki's conception in the exegesis of the addressee of this criticism. Next there is an outline sketched concerning the general perspective of disagreement against the approach by S. Gałkowski. There is also outlined criticism and appraisal towards Znaniecki by the author of this polemics. The text illustrates the trap of an epistemic reading as an ethical abuse of logics. Finally instead of a conclusion one is discussing the ways of treatement of the tradition of humanistic reflection and it warns against interpretative errors committed by the criticised author. The basic error is perceived as the result of domination of application of harmful associations of the leader blocking the way to deeper sense of the conception

Targeting the protein-protein interactions of the HIV lifecycle

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the causative agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), relies heavily on protein-protein interactions in almost every step of its lifecycle. Targeting these interactions, especially those between virus and host proteins, is increasingly viewed as an ideal avenue for the design and development of new therapeutics. In this tutorial review, we outline the lifecycle of HIV and describe some of the protein-protein interactions that control and regulate each step of this process, also detailing efforts to develop therapies that target these interactions

The paper attempts to analyse, as to how distance education mechanisms can be effectually used for sustainability in areas of the human environment, health and management of the natural resources. Short review of methodological experiences in education of knowledge-based society for common action with experts for promotion sustainable development is based on over 20 years activity in this field of the AGH Open University and the Open Seminars on Sustainable Development and ca. 40 years of informal, problem-solving education in linkage with interdisciplinary case studies. Further this model will be sustainable in terms of clean technology used, for the benefit of the human environment and better quality of life. The concept is related to long-term international cooperation of the Polish author (e.g. from 1983 with Indian scientists) on human ecology, medical elementology, ecotoxicology and biotechnology as well as future requirements of the National Open University in India.Artykuł stanowi próbę oceny możliwości zastosowania mechanizmów edukacji na odległość w celu skutecznej promocji zrównoważonych działań w dziedzinach środowiska człowieka, zdrowia i oszczędnej gospodarki zasobami przyrody. Nawiązuje on też do wieloletniej międzynarodowej współpracy polskiego współautora (m.in. od 1983 r. z indyjskimi naukowcami) w zakresie ekologii człowieka, elementologii medycznej, ekotoksykologii i biotechnologii oraz potrzeb rozwojowych Narodowego Uniwersytetu Otwartego w Indiach

Identification of boosted, hadronically decaying W bosons and comparisons with ATLAS data taken at root s=8 TeV

Çetin, Serkant Ali (Dogus Author)This paper reports a detailed study of techniques for identifying boosted, hadronically decaying W bosons using 20.3 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy root s = 8 TeV. A range of techniques for optimising the signal jet mass resolution are combined with various jet substructure variables. The results of these studies in Monte Carlo simulations show that a simple pairwise combination of groomed jet mass and one substructure variable can provide a 50 % efficiency for identifying W bosons with transverse momenta larger than 200 GeV while maintaining multijet background efficiencies of 2-4% for jets with the same transverse momentum. These signal and background efficiencies are confirmed in data for a selection of tagging techniques

Inclusive W and Z production in the forward region at √s=7TeV

Measurements of inclusive W and Z boson production cross-sections in pp collisions at s√=7TeV using final states containing muons are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 pb−1 collected with the LHCb detector. The W and Z bosons are reconstructed from muons with a transverse momentum above 20 GeV/c and pseudorapidity between 2.0 and 4.5, and, in the case of the Z cross-section, a dimuon invariant mass between 60 and 120 GeV/c2. The cross-sections are measured to be 831 ± 9 ± 27 ± 29pb for W +, 656 ± 8 ± 19 ± 23 for W − and 76.7 ± 1.7 ± 3.3 ± 2.7pb for Z, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the luminosity. Differential cross-sections, W and Z cross-section ratios and the lepton charge asymmetry are also measured in the same kinematic region. The ratios are determined to be σW+→μ+ν/σW−→μ−ν−=1.27±0.02±0.01 and (σW+→μ+ν+σW−→μ−ν−)/σZ→μμ=19.4±0.5±0.9 . The results are in general agreement with theoretical predictions, performed at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD using recently calculated parton distribution functions

The purpose of this article is an analysis of author neologisms extracted from the novel "Rzeczy uprzyjemniające. Utopia" by T. Boldak-Janovska – writer, although living in Olsztyn, belonging to the Polish-Belarusian border. The object of research was elected not by accident: for a few years the novel attracts the attention of readers and critics. For the purposes of this analysis were selected 186 neologisms, mostly nouns and verbs, most of whom are motivated formations. The most numerous are the names of animals, birds, reptile and fish, names of plants, trees, shrubs, names of everyday objects. Author neologisms constitute an indispensable component of the Polish vocabulary. They are understandable for the users through the context and through the semantic link to the radial network to which they [email protected]. Bołdak-Janowska, 2009, Rzeczy uprzyjemniające. Search for w ' -> tb -> qqbb decays in pp collisions at root s=8 Tev with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
Çetin, Serkant Ali (Dogus Author)A search for a massive W' gauge boson decaying to a top quark and a bottom quark is performed with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at the LHC. The datasetwas taken at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV and corresponds to 20.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. This analysis is done in the hadronic decay mode of the top quark, where novel jet substructure techniques are used to identify jets from high-momentum top quarks. This allows for a search for high-mass W' bosons in the range 1.5-3.0 TeV. b-tagging is used to identify jets originating from b-quarks. The data are consistent with Standard Model background-only expectations, and upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the W' -> tb cross section times branching ratio ranging from 0.16 pb to 0.33 pb for left-handed W' bosons, and ranging from 0.10 pb to 0.21 pb for W' bosons with purely righthanded couplings. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the W'-boson coupling to tb as a function of the W' mass using an effective field theory approach, which is independent of details of particular models predicting a W' boson
