Understanding Multicultural Dimensions in the History of Progressive Science in the Classical Period of Islam (610-1258 CE)
The narrative on the development of science in Islamic civilization was strongly influenced by a complex network of academics from around the world. The willing- ness to learn from other civilizations was appareat from the strong enthusiasm of Muslim scientists, who established collaborations with other nations regardless of their religion, culture, faith, or other backgrounds. The multicultural spirit was not only discussed at the time hut was implemented in the context of scientific devel- opment. This is an important lesson for the Islamic world today. The implication of this history is that every Muslim scientist should have an open mindset to collaborate with anyone regardless of their faith, belief, ideology, gender, sexual orientation, language, and nation, as well as engage in interfaith dialogue. This is exemplified by other civilizations, especially in Europe, who were inspired by and learned from the Islamic civilization in Baghdad. They modeled their scientific ethos on Muslim scientists and applied it in the West.Political patrons today may be reminded of and encouraged by this open and science-friendly paradigm as they design and legislate policies and proğrams that advance seientific innovations. The transformation of many institutions from State Islamic Institute wadition into State Islamic University one became a concrete example that Islam is a dynamic system which its teachings can adapt to any situo tion, Today's phenomena in the state Islamic universities show advantages of being general universities because their elasticity can acconomoslate science and technology to be taught to students of Islamic teachings backgrounds, such as pesantren, to open their horizon to the development of science. Since year 2012, lens of state Islami
Practicing Multicultural Education through Religiously Affiliated Schools and Its Implications for Social Change
Having varied ethnics, cultures, religions, or faiths, Indonesia is considered a multicultural nation in today’s world. This equity can be dangerous; but also can be advantageous if myriad interests of citizens are able to be nurtured through education, including religious schools. The research was conducted to explore multicultural practices in the State-owned Islamic High School (MAN) 3 and the Catholic High School (SMA) Stella Duce 2 in Yogyakarta Indonesia. Data was gathered via qualitative method by means of comparative study, aiming at seeking similarities and differences on promoting multicultural education values. Findings show similarities of teachers’ attitudes and characteristics as facilitator, accommodator, or assimilator whereas the differences include their leadership role in intrareligious dialog at MAN 3 and dialog leaders at SMA Stella Duce 2. Other issues include diverse understandings of religion and its perceived violence. The research formulates two categories of teacher as being multicultural-intrareligious pluralist and multicultural-intrareligious humanist. It also discusses implications on social change as a result of cultural interchange at those schools
LISTENING FROM THE BOTTOM A QUALITATIVE APPROACH EXAMINING ZAKAT RECIPIENTS’ VOICES
Existing zakat research, reports little information about the living conditions
of Indonesian zakat recipients. This study examined the perceptions of zakat
recipients at Rumah Zakat, a charitable institution, in Yogyakarta. Semi-
structured interviews solicited seven economic empowerment program respondents’
narratives. This data collection method incorporating a phenomenological
approach to data analysis revealed that respondents with more education and
spousal support could better subsist after utilizing Rumah Zakat’s interest-free
loans, and compared to individual efforts or group support, spousal support helped
significantly with business growth. These respondents typically earned incomes
above the national standard of poverty. As their businesses grew, four respondents
planned to employ the jobless. Respondents benefiting from the program reported
significant impact on their home economies and social lives
ISLAM DAN PEKERJAAN SOSIAL
Islamic theology and the fie pillars of Islam have historical and current roles in enhancing Islamic social work practices in Muslim communities. These effects are explored by means of literature review and via comparisons among Muslim populations and other religious followers and with an examination of the theology of Shi’i Muslims and Sunni Muslims. Basic concepts of Islam, such as shahada (testimony), prayers, fasting, zakat, and pilgrimage, are recommended for use by Muslim social workers in their practice with Muslim clients
TREND CIVITAS AKADEMIKA UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA DALAM MEMBAYAR ZAKAT
Empowerment of the poor is a long run program. Modern zakat institution is one of
the zakat managements to have long run programs than the mosque takmir. As
academicians, lectures and professors at UIN Sunan Kalijaga knew the existence and
performance of modern zakat management. The research was aimed to explore zakat
payment trends conducted by the lecturers and professors. First, the attitude of those
lecturers and professors in giving their zakat either fitrah or maal; whether the
payment was done by giving direct cash to zakat institutions or to mustahiq and the
mosque takmir. Second, reasons that lay beyond choosing the payment methods. The
results indicated the respondents tended to conserve the traditional method in giving
zakat to the poor and the mosque. From 95 respondents surveyed, fifty five
respondents paid their zakat fitrah and maal directly to individuals because they
witness living poor individuals in their neighboorhood, and fourty respondents chose
the modern method. And, from 95 respondents, twelve of the did not trust zakat
institutions. Therefore, they paid their zakat directly to the poor.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The Practice of Social Support and Self-Adjustment: Minangkabau Students in Yogyakarta
This research was mainly based on the number of Minangkabau students who migrated and continued their studies in Yogyakarta so that they required self-adjustment that was different from their place of origin. The purpose of this study is to discover the relationship between social support and self-adjustment among Minangkabau students in Yogyakarta. The null hypothesis states that there is a significant positive relationship between social support and self-adjustment. The higher the social support rises, the higher the individual adjustment makes. The lower the social support obtained, the lower the adjustment will be. The subjects of this study were Minangkabau students in Yogyakarta. The sampling technique in this study used the accidental sampling technique. The method used in this study is quantitative, while the data collection tools used are the social support scale and self-adjustment scale, the data analysis method using analysis prerequisite testing (normality test and linearity test) and hypothesis testing using the correlation of Pearson\u27s product moment with the help of SPSS 23.0 for windows. Based on the research results that have been obtained, it can be seen and concluded that the hypothesis proposed in this study can be accepted, as evidenced by the results of the correlation coefficient of 0.502 and a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between social support and adjustment to Minangkabau students in Yogyakarta.

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
