    Experimental quantum phase discrimination enhanced by controllable indistinguishability-based coherence

    Quantum coherence, a basic feature of quantum mechanics residing in superpositions of quantum states, is a resource for quantum information processing. Coherence emerges in a fundamentally different way for nonidentical and identical particles, in that for the latter a unique contribution exists linked to indistinguishability which cannot occur for nonidentical particles. We experimentally demonstrate by an optical setup this additional contribution to quantum coherence, showing that its amount directly depends on the degree of indistinguishability and exploiting it to run a quantum phase discrimination protocol. Furthermore, the designed setup allows for simulating Fermionic particles with photons, thus assessing the role of particle statistics (Bosons or Fermions) in coherence generation and utilization. Our experiment proves that independent indistinguishable particles can supply a controllable resource of coherence for quantum metrology.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    An experimental study on risk attitude and choice behavior of education and career This paper introduces a research on risk attitude and choice behavior of education and career. Using the experimental methods, this study focuses on testing the reliability and validity of risk attitude measurement. At the same time, it also examines the applicability and limitations of some assumptions of the Prospect Theory in explaining the choice behavior of modern Chinese university students. On this basis, the author provides some further research findings built on the basis of the experiment results, and discusses the direction for the in-depth study in the future

    Graphene-doped photo-patternable ionogels: tuning of conductivity and mechanical stability of 3D microstructures

    This work reports for the first time the development of enhanced conductivity, graphene- doped photo-patternable hybrid organic-inorganic ionogels and the effect of the subsequent materials condensation on the conductivity and mechanical stability of three- dimensional microstructures fabricated by multi-photon polymerisation (MPP). Ionogels were based on photocurable silicon/zirconium hybrid sol-gel materials and phosphonium (trihexyltetradecylphosphonium dicyanamide [P6,6,6,14][DCA] ionic liquid (IL). To optimise the dispersion of graphene within the ionogel matrices, aqueous solutions of graphene were prepared, as opposed to the conventional graphene powder approach, and employed as catalysts of hydrolysis and condensation reactions occurring in the sol-gel process. Ionogels were prepared via a two step process by varying the hydrolysis degree from 25 to 50%, IL content between 0-50 w/w%, and the inorganic modifier (zirconate complex) concentration from 30 to 60 mol.% against the photocurable ormosil and they were characterised via Raman, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy. MPP was performed on the hybrid ionogels, resulting in three- dimensional microstructures that were characterised using scanning electron microscopy. It is clearly demonstrated that the molecular formulation of the ionogels, including the concentration of graphene and the zirconate network modifier, play a critical role in the conductivity of the ionogels and influence the resulting mechanical stability of the fabricated three-dimensional microstructures.     The man in the middle: an introduction to the life and work of Gui-feng Zong-mi

    This thesis presents a biographical study of the Tang Dynasty monk Gui-feng Zong-mi (780-841) together with an introduction to his thought. The biography contained herein draws upon original biographical and autobiographical sources to provide as complete a picture of the life of Zong-mi as possible within the scope of this thesis. Zong-mi defied categorization in both the manner in which he lived his life and his religious philosophy. He is simultaneously honored as a patriarch in both the Chan and Hua-yan Schools of Buddhism, while also being well-versed in the Confucian classics. As a model of Chinese Buddhist syncretism, he was able to create harmonious interaction between rival schools and religious systems in his writings and his practice. With a foot in both the exegetical and meditative traditions, Zong-mi was able to combine the best of both approaches to Buddhist religious life and philosophy. A native of Sichuan, Zong-mi entered Buddhism through the He-ze lineage of Southern Chan. He first experienced awakening while reading a passage from the Yuan-jue jing and pledged himself to explicating that text. After encountering the writings of the Fourth Hua-yan Patriarch, Cheng-guan, Zong-mi sought him out and changed his affiliation to Huayan. He maintained close ties with the Chan tradition, because he perceived the exegetical and meditative approaches were complementary. Zong-mi enjoyed a prosperous career and received numerous honors, including the purple robe granted by the emperor. Following his involvement in the Sweet Dew Incident of 835, he disappeared from view. Zong-mi was primarily driven by soteriological concerns. More specifically, he worked to develop a doctrinal basis for meditative practice and his major contributions to Chinese Buddhist thought lie in this area. The model which he developed drew from the Hua-yan vision of the harmonious interpenetration of principle and phenomena, and he used this as a basis for Chan meditative practice. This model, advocating sudden enlightenment followed by gradual cultivation, was based on his understanding of the tathagatagarbha doctrine of the Awakening of Faith.Arts, Faculty ofAsian Studies, Department ofGraduat

    Spieldose: perceiving Buchenwald history through camp music and children’s camp

    This article discusses the historical perception of Buchenwald through artistic research focusing on the themes of camp music and children’s camps. The research is structured into three sections. The first section explores the types of music in the concentration camp and their roles, while the second investigates the development of children’s camps within Buchenwald. The third section discusses the sounding sculpture Spieldose, which the author created based on this research. The article suggests that an artistic approach to historical perception involves an interactive dialogue that shapes both personal understanding and the historical narrative itself. As for the artwork Spieldose, the author attempts to sound an alarm to the world through it, for history is not and has never been far removed from us, rather, it is unfolding right before our eyes
