Construcción de un sistema de dos grados de libertad para la evaluación de superficies reflectoras utilizando la prueba de Ronchi
Get PDFSe propone el desarrollo de un sistema de dos grados de libertad semiautomático para la
evaluación de la forma de superficies ópticas en la etapa de pulido, mediante la prueba de
Ronchi. El sistema debe ser capaz de alinear un probador de Ronchi a la superficie que se
encuentra en proceso de fabricación, además de generar y capturar la imagen del
ronchigrama. Con esto, se pretende optimizar el proceso de evaluación de la superficie y
por tanto emplear menor tiempo en su fabricación.
El trabajo comprende el diseño del control de un sistema de rieles de dos grados de
libertad, que permite la alineación semiautomática del probador de Ronchi con la superficie
en proceso de producción. Para ello, se emplean las Marcas Visuales Informativas que
permiten ubicar el sistema de coordenadas de la superficie óptica con respecto al sistema de
coordenadas básico del sistema de rieles. Posteriormente, se utilizará un software que
capture la imagen del ronchigrama de la superficie a evaluar para en lo futuro procesarla

Interaction Between Synthetic Exosomes and the Primo Vascular System
The Primo Vascular System (PVS) is a novel anatomical system discovered by Bong Han Kim, a Korean scientist, in the early 1960’s. The structure is composed of a systemic network of thread-like vessels and nodes. Previous studies have confirmed the presence of stem cells in Primo Nodes (PNs), however little is known regarding the physiological function of the PVS. A sub-type of the PVS has been found inside lymphatic and vascular vessels. A recent study reported visualizing intra-lymphatic Primo Vessels (IL-PVs) using Hollow Gold Nano spheres measuring 50-120nm in diameter. Our overall hypothesis is that the PVS collects exsomes from lymphatic fluid, channeling them towards PNs to facilitate their interaction with stem and immune cells in response to physiological stimuli to maintain homeostasis. The purpose of this study was to develop synthetic exosomes (SEs) with a membrane lipid composition similar to those released by PC-3 prostate cancer cells. The SEs were then stained with victoria blue and injected into the lumbar lymph nodes of a Sprague-Dawley Rat. Over time IL-PV’s and PNs were visualized by the contrast provided by the dye. SEs appeared to penetrate the IL-PV wall and PNs. In conclusion we were able to create SEs of the appropriate size and similar lipid composition of those derived from PC-3 cancer cells, and the SEs appear to penetrate IL-PVs and PNs based on the contrast provided by Victoria blue dye
Substantial oxygen consumption by aerobic nitrite oxidation in oceanic oxygen minimum zones

Nature Communications, 12(1), (2021): 7043, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-27381-7.Oceanic oxygen minimum zones (OMZs) are globally significant sites of biogeochemical cycling where microorganisms deplete dissolved oxygen (DO) to concentrations <20 µM. Amid intense competition for DO in these metabolically challenging environments, aerobic nitrite oxidation may consume significant amounts of DO and help maintain low DO concentrations, but this remains unquantified. Using parallel measurements of oxygen consumption rates and 15N-nitrite oxidation rates applied to both water column profiles and oxygen manipulation experiments, we show that the contribution of nitrite oxidation to overall DO consumption systematically increases as DO declines below 2 µM. Nitrite oxidation can account for all DO consumption only under DO concentrations <393 nM found in and below the secondary chlorophyll maximum. These patterns are consistent across sampling stations and experiments, reflecting coupling between nitrate reduction and nitrite-oxidizing Nitrospina with high oxygen affinity (based on isotopic and omic data). Collectively our results demonstrate that nitrite oxidation plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and biogeochemical dynamics of OMZs.This work was supported by NSF CAREER Grant OCE-1555375 to J.M.B. No full textDigitalLas condiciones de salud mental según la OMS (1) es el estado de bienestar que permite a los seres humanos enfrentarse a las diversas situaciones de la vida cotidiana y así desarrollar habilidades que permiten aprender y trabajar adecuadamente en la comunidad, la misma es un derecho fundamental y esencial para el desarrollo personal y comunitario. De igual forma se tienen en cuenta las habilidades de comunicación e interacción, según Antonio Hernández Mendo y Oscar Garay Plaza (2) como un proceso de interacción social de carácter verbal y no verbal que puede influir en el comportamiento de las personas ya sea positiva o negativamente. El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue determinar las condiciones de salud mental que influyen en las habilidades de comunicación e interacción en las mujeres privadas de la libertad pertenecientes a comunidad terapéutica ambulatoria del instituto nacional penitenciario y carcelario de Cúcuta en el año 2023. Se utilizó una metodología cuantitativa mediante la recolección y análisis de datos de cada ítem a evaluar, el estudio tuvo un enfoque descriptivo relacional detallando diferentes características de la población. Los instrumentos aplicados como el ACIS, evalúa habilidades de comunicación e interacción y el Goldberg GHQ-28, es un cuestionario general de salud mental.
Los resultados destacaron la influencia negativa de condiciones de salud mental, como insomnio, ansiedad y disfunción social, en la comunicación e interacción. Se observaron signos y síntomas como aislamiento social, irritabilidad y dificultades para expresar pensamientos, emociones e ideas.
Estos impactaron el intercambio de información y relaciones, llevando la adopción de comportamientos adaptativos al entorno carcelario para obtener aceptación por parte de pares. En consecuencia, se concluyó que estas condiciones afectan negativamente el desarrollo de actividades en programas de comunidad terapéutica ambulatoria, incluyendo proyectos de vida, reinserción social, deportes, cultura y empleo, debido a los efectos de la prisionalización.Mental health conditions according to WHO(1) is the state of well-being that allows human beings to face the diverse situations of daily life and thus develop skills that allow them to learn and work adequately in the community, which is a fundamental and essential right for personal and community development. Similarly, communication and interaction skills are taken into account, according to Antonio Hernández Mendo and Oscar Garay Plaza (2) as a process of social interaction of verbal and nonverbal character that can influence people's behavior either positively or negatively. The main objective of this research was to determine the mental health conditions that influence communication and interaction skills in women deprived of liberty belonging to the outpatient therapeutic community of the national penitentiary and prison institute of Cucuta in the year 2023, using a quantitative methodology through data collection and analysis of each item to be evaluated, the study had a relational descriptive approach detailing different characteristics of the population. The instruments applied were the ACIS, which evaluates communication and interaction skills, and the Goldberg GHQ-28, a general mental health questionnaire.
The results highlighted the negative influence of mental health conditions, such as insomnia, anxiety and social dysfunction, on communication and interaction. Signs and symptoms such as social isolation, irritability and difficulties in expressing thoughts, emotions and ideas were observed.
These impacted the exchange of information and relationships, leading to the adoption of adaptive behaviors to the prison environment to gain acceptance by peers. Consequently, it was concluded that these conditions negatively affect the development of activities in outpatient therapeutic community programs, including life projects, social reintegration, sports, culture and employment, due to the effects of imprisonment.Resumen ........................................................................................................................................ 17

Case report: Exceptional and durable response to Radium-223 and suspension of androgen deprivation therapy in a metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer patient

Radium-223 (Ra-223) is approved for patients with advanced castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with bone metastases and no visceral disease. However, patients' outcomes are heterogenous, and there is lack of validated predictive biomarkers of response, while biomarkers for early identification of patients who benefit from treatment are limited. This case report describes a remarkable and durable response to Ra-223 in a CRPC patient with bone metastases who had rapidly progressed to many previous therapies; this response is now lasting for 5 years even after having stopped backbone androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Here, we present the clinical course of this exceptional response, as well as comprehensive genomic and histopathology analyses on sequential biopsies acquired before and after therapy. Hibernation Ecology of Bats Using Three High-Elevation Caves in Northern Arizona: Implications for Potential White-nose Syndrome Impacts on Desert Southwest Species
No full textabstract: Desert ecosystems of the southwest United States are characterized by hot and arid climates, but hibernating bats can be found at high altitudes. The emerging fungal infection, white-nose syndrome, causes mortality in hibernating bat populations across eastern North America and the pathogen is increasingly observed in western regions. However, little is known about the ecology of hibernating bats in the southwest, which can help predict how these populations may respond to the fungus. My study investigated hibernating bats during two winters (2018-2019/2019-2020) at three caves in northern Arizona to: (1) describe diversity and abundance of hibernating bats using visual internal surveys and photographic documentation, (2) determine the duration of hibernation by recording bat echolocation call sequences outside caves and recording bat activity in caves using visual inspection, and (3) describe environmental conditions where hibernating bats are roosting. Adjacent to bats, I collected temperature and relative humidity, which I converted into absolute humidity. I documented hibernation status (i.e. active vs. not active) and roosting body position (i.e. open, partially hidden, and hidden). Between September 2018 and April 2019, 246 bat observations were recorded across the three caves. The majority of bats were identified as Myotis spp. (45.9\%, n=113), followed by Corynorhinus townsendii (45.5\%, n=112), Parastrellus hesperus (4.8\%, n=12), Eptesicus fuscus (3.6\%, n=9). Between September 2019 and April 2020, I documented a total of 361 bat observations across the three caves. C. townsendii was most prevalent (52.9\%, n=191), followed by the category P. hesperus/Myotis spp. (25.7\%, n=93), Myotis spp. (12.4\%, n=45), P. Hesperus (4.4\%, n=16), E. fuscus (3.6\%, n=13) and Unknown (0.8\%, n=3). Average conditions adjacent to bats were, temperature=12.5ºC, relative humidity=53\%, and absolute humidity=4.9 g/kg. Hibernating bats were never observed in large clusters and the maximum hibernating population size was 24, suggesting low risk for pathogen transmission among bats. Hibernation lasted approximately 120 days, with minimal activity documented inside and outside caves. Hibernating bats in northern Arizona may be at low risk for white-nose syndrome based on population size, hibernation length, roosting behavior, and absolute humidity, but other variables (e.g. temperature) indicate the potential for white-nose syndrome impacts on these populations.Dissertation/ThesisMasters Thesis Biology 202
Uma leitura do afresco "A árvore de Jessé", de Giuseppe Arcimboldo: articulações simbólicas numa perspectiva interdisciplinar
Get PDFTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Humanas, Florianópolis, 2013.Esta pesquisa consiste numa análise dos simbolismos presentes no afresco de Giuseppe Arcimboldo intitulado "A Árvore de Jessé", artista milanês do século XVI, famoso por suas obras compostas. Nesta investigação será apresentada uma hipótese que permite ampliar o olhar sobre essa obra a partir da percepção de uma cabeça composta. A problemática investigada consiste na significação da obra a partir das escolhas feitas pelo artista em termos de linguagem pictórica e simbólica, na articulação de conceitos e ideias, visando responder à pergunta: o que essa obra que abrange duas imagens e seus símbolos inter-relacionados pode significar? A perspectiva teórica utilizada concebe os símbolos como parte do mundo imaginário , com suas raízes no inconsciente coletivo. O objetivo principal visa realizar uma interpretação possível da referida obra, analisando os símbolos presentes que faziam parte do imaginário da sociedade européia daquele período. E como objetivos específicos: aprofundar o conhecimento sobre a significação na pintura com relação à interpretação de simbolismos; e contribuir no campo de estudos sobre a criação pictórica de Arcimboldo. Foram incluídos elementos extra-pictóricos abrangendo o seu contexto de surgimento, numa perspectiva metodológica que se aproxima da de Panofsky, mas à qual foi acrescentada a identificação de formas perceptíveis e uma análise dos símbolos. Os procedimentos utilizados foram: pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o artista, seu contexto e os significados de mitos e símbolos segundo o método comparativo; pesquisa e trabalho com imagens; e observações à obra em uma reprodução e in loco na Catedral de Monza. A obra é abordada de diferentes ângulos, buscando o desenvolvimento de um olhar multifocal com contribuições de diversas disciplinas das ciências humanas. A imagem da árvore veicula significados que lhe foram atribuídos por diferentes tradições, agrupados neste trabalho em 10 categorias de análise e mais uma abrangendo as demais. Para a leitura desta imagem dupla propõe-se aqui o conceito de âncora da imagem. Os diversos símbolos direcionam para significados coincidentes, cuja recorrência condiz com o pensamento mágico da época voltado para a busca de correspondências entre os elementos da natureza e o homem visando encontrar uma unidade harmônica Abstract: The present research is an analysis of symbolisms in the fresco entitled Tree of Jesse painted by G. Arcimboldo, a XVI century artist from Milan, famous for his composite works. This thesis presents a hypothesis that allows for the broadening look at this fresco from the perception of a composite head. The investigated problem consists in the meaning of the work from the choices made by the artist in terms of pictoric and symbolic language, in the articulation of concepts and ideas, aiming at answering the following question: What can this work (which comprises two images and their interrelated symbols) mean? From the theoretical perspective drawn upon, the symbols are part of the imaginary world, with its roots in the collective unconsciousness. The main purpose aims at a possible interpretation of this fresco, analyzing its symbols which were part of the European society of that time. The specific objectives are to further the understanding of the painting in terms of interpretation of its symbolisms and of Arcimboldo´s pictoric creation. Extra-pictoric elements were included such as the context where the fresco was produced, in a methodological perspective resembling that of Panofsky, but also adding the identification of perceptible forms and an analysis of the symbols. The procedures were: bibliographic search about the author, his context and the meanings of myths and symbols as proposed in the comparative method; research and work with images; and observation of a copy of the work and of the original fresco at the Monza Cathedral. The fresco is studied from different angles, with an attempted multifocal look drawing on several disciplines from the Human Sciences. The image of the tree conveys meanings attributed to it by different traditions, grouped in this thesis under 10 categories of analysis and an additional one comprising all the others. For the reading of the double image the concept of anchor image is proposed. The diverse symbols are directed towards coincidental meanings whose occurrence is aligned with the magic thought of that time, with the search for congruity between elements of nature and man aiming at finding a harmonious unity

macro ambiental que dan respuesta a la problemática planteada la cual radica en el bajo
índice de cultura de compra de estos productos mostrando un enfoque en una situación real,
involucrando a una empresa dedicada a comercializar productos ecológicos. Al concluir
con los resultados de la investigación se descubrieron datos interesantes para la generación
de estrategias y poder mitigar con la problemática, para así poder aportar al crecimiento de
