Replication data (with rounded standardized macro variables) for "Multiple roots of the populist radical right: support for the Dutch PVV in cities and the countryside"
This dataset contains replication data for Eelco Harteveld, Wouter van der Brug, Sarah de Lange, and Tom van der Meer, "Multiple roots of the populist radical right: support for the Dutch PVV in cities and the countryside", European Journal of Political Research. For privacy reasons, the neighbourhood ("wijk") level variables have been (1) rounded to one decimal and subsequently (2) standardized. As a result, replications using this data will diverge somewhat from the original analysis. To obtain the un-rounded data, please contact the authors

Paying the price: why parties that turn their back on civil society face electoral upheaval
Political parties are increasingly confronted with high levels of electoral volatility. Nick Martin, Sarah de Lange and Wouter van der Brug write, however, that even in times of increased volatility, connections between party elites and organised civil society matter electorally. Drawing on a new study, they illustrate how these ties can help to stabilise the electorates of parties on both the left and right
European Elections, Euroscepticism, and Support for Anti‐European Union Parties
The chapter tests the idea that European elections might fuel Euroscepticism by providing a regular forum for those who oppose European unification to spread their message. This chapter first explores the strength of the relationships between citizens’ attitudes towards Europe, their support for anti‐EU parties (both measured through surveys), and the positions on Europe of the party they support (measured by combining survey material and content analyses of party manifestos). These three turn out to be strongly related. However, there is no evidence that these relationships become stronger over time or stronger as a result of the increased politicization around European elections. So, the analyses in this chapter have not provided support for this idea, but they have not rejected it either

The Politicisation of Immigration in the Netherlands
Why are migration policies sometimes heavily contested and high on the political agenda? And why do they, at other moments and in other countries, hardly lead to much public debate? The entrance and settlement of migrants in Western Europe has prompted various political reactions. In some countries anti-immigration parties have gained substantial public support while in others migration policies have been hardly controversial.
The Politicisation of Migration examines the differences between seven Western European countries by developing a conceptual framework to empirically explain patterns of politicisation and de-politicisation. The analyses show that over the past decade immigration has been increasingly defined in socio-cultural terms and that it has been receiving less political attention since the economic crisis started in 2007
