Determinants of Household Food Security: A Comparative Analysis of Eastern and Non-Eastern Indonesia
Food security at the national, regional and district level do not ensure food security at household level. The facts that although at a national, regional and districts level the status of food security is assured, but in the region and districts is still found the food insecure households. Moreover, domination of Indonesian food policies which mostly emphasize in rice production and keep the price of rice remained low lead to the provinces with high in rice production but also high problems of hunger and malnutrition. In 2009, Indonesian Food Security Council issued a Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas (FSVA) which stated that there were 100 districts in Indonesia, which were most vulnerable to food insecurity based on the composite food security index. Of the 100 districts, 79 of which (79 percent) were located in Eastern Indonesia. This shows that the implemented food policy in Indonesia is still emphasized in the rice production and have not able to tackle, especially the problems of availability, access, utilization and stability of food security. Therefore, handling of food security in Indonesia must involve all factors, including food availability, food accessibility, food utilization, and food stability simultaneously. Based on the above description, the objectives of this study are: 1) To analyze the condition of household food security in Eastern Indonesia compared to non-Eastern Indonesia 2) To analyze the determinants of household food security in Eastern Indonesia compared to non-Eastern Indonesia. The data used in this study are SUSENAS module of consumption and expenditure which was collected in July 2008 and Susenas kor 2008. Both data cover 285,904 households from Eastern and non-Eastern region. The status of household food security is identified by two indicators: per adult-equivalent calorie availability and per adult-equivalent share of expenditure. Ordinal logistic regression used as the method to analyze the data. On the average, the calorie availability of households in Eastern and non-Eastern Indonesia has been already more than the requirements to be food secure households (80 percent). However, the share of food expenditures is also still more than 60 percent lead to the food vulnerable households. The households with this characteristic are susceptible to the shock. The problem of food vulnerability is not only applied in Eastern Indonesia, but also in non-Eastern Indonesia. The factors of expenditure equivalent, gender of household head, age of household head, education of household head, main occupation of household head, household location, and household size are all significant determinants of household food security in Eastern and non-Eastern Indonesia. The difference is in the factors of access to electricity which is not significant in Eastern Indonesia and access to loan and access to safe drinking water which are only significant in non-Eastern Indonesia
ANALISIS DETERMINAN PENGELUARAN KONSUMSI MAKRO RUMAH TANGGA DI INDONESIA
Domination allocation of Gross Domestic Product by its use in household consumption expenditure showed the importance of this type of expenditure to national economic growth and the household welfare. Under these conditions, this study aims to analyze the development of household consumption expenditure in Indonesia during the period 2000 to 2014 and the factors that influence the household consumption expenditure. By using multiple linear regressions, the study finds that the factors of national income, interest rates and fuel prices significantly affect national household consumption expenditure. To further boost economic growth and welfare, the government should imply appropriate policies by increasing household incomes through the expansion of employment opportunities, as well as maintaining the stability of interest rates and minimizing the negative impacts of the rising of oil prices.DOI:10.15408/sjie.v3i2.2063

Competitiveness and the Factors Affecting Export of the Indonesia Canned Pineapple in the World and the Destination Countries
Indonesia has a comparative advantage as the largest pineapple exporter in the world. Most of the pineapples are exported in the form of canned pineapples. This study examines the competitiveness of Indonesian exports of canned pineapple in the world and in the destination countries by using the method of Revealed Competitive Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamics (EPD), Intra-Industry Trade (IIT), and a panel data regression analysis approach through E-views 6 for the period 2004 until 2013. RCA analysis results indicate that the Indonesian canned pineapple has a comparative advantage in the world as well as in the export destination countries. EPD analysis results indicate that the Indonesian canned pineapple has a highly competitive advantage by positioning a rising star in the world and in the seven export destination countries, including the United States, Spain, Italy, Canada, Denmark, Austria, and China. IIT analysis results indicate that Indonesia has a one-way trade flows and a lower degree of integration towards export destination countries. Finally, the results of panel data analysis indicate that Factors that affect the export volume of Indonesia canned pineapple in the destination countries are Indonesia canned pineapple export prices to the export destination countries, real GDP and the population of destination countries Keywords: Competitiveness, RCA, EPD, IIT, Panel Regression</jats:p
A Gravity Model for Indonesian Canned Tuna Exports to the European Union Market: An Application of PPML Estimator
In this study, we examine the determinants of Indonesian canned tuna export to the European Union (EU) market through a gravity model approach. This paper employs a gravity model approach through Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimation. Data from 2006 to 2015 covering 10 countries (the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom) were employed with HS 160414 product code specification. Constant Market Share Analysis (CMSA) was performed to examine Indonesian export growth as well as its competitors. The findings indicated that the performance of Indonesian canned tuna exports to the EU market is prominently affected by competitiveness effect while Thai canned tuna export is more affected by import growth and composition effect. The Philippines and Vietnam canned tuna exports are more affected by composition and competitiveness effect. Finally, population of the importing countries, tuna production volumes and real exchange rates significantly affect Indonesian canned tuna export to the EU

DETERMINANTS OF HOUSEHOLD FOOD SECURITY: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF EASTERN AND WESTERN INDONESIA
Indonesian Food Security Council in 2009 issued a Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas (FSVA) which stated that there were 100 districts in Indonesia which were most vulnerable to food insecurity and 79% of which were located in eastern region. By using Susenas regular data in 2008, this study aimed to analyze determinants of household food security in eastern compared to western region. The ordered logistic regression model was employed to investigate the determinants of household food security. The result showed that most of households in Indonesia were vulnerable to food insecurity (41.76%). The percentage in eastern region (48.56%) was higher than that in western region (41.76%). Increase in expenditure equivalent, age and education level of household head, female household head, small household size, household head’s occupation in non-agriculture and urban household would increase the probability of a household to become food secure in both regions. The difference was in the factor of access to electricity in eastern and access to safe drinking water and loan in western region. Policies which aim to increase education, credit access, and intensive family planning have big roles in improving household food security
