    "Actual macro-theories of nationalism lack a systematic integration into a metatheory. The paper proposes to use systems theory as a conceptual tool for this requirement by examining two of its branches. First, an attempt is made to determine a systematic location of the notion of nation in Niklas Luhmann's framework. Luhmann himself did not, until now, include the problem of nationalism into his concept. The author, therefore, proposes to embed the notion of nation into Luhmann's concept either by arguing that it refers to the scope of a political system or by arguing that it refers to the self-description of a society. It follows that any theory of the nation should be regarded as a »theory of reflection« (Reflexionstheorie) of a politically defined society. But, as a concept of identification cannot be formulated without referring to the individual, a purely systemic approach only describes half of the phenomenon. Therefore, second, the author takes up Peter M. Hejl's approach, which does not only use Humberto Maturana's concept of autopoiesis by analogy, but attempts to work out its consequences for social theory. Following this branch of systems theory, nationalism can be conceptualized as a consequence of the resurgence of competing self-descriptions inside one spatial unit. By combining the macro- and the micro-approaches in such a way, the crafting of a systemic theory of nationalism may be advanced." [author's abstract

    Musikstädte as real and imaginary soundscapes: urban musical images as literary motifs in twentieth-century German modernism

    PhDThis study examines German literary images of musical life as part of the wider sound identity of the modern German city at the turn of the twentieth century. Focussing on a forty-year period from 1890 to 1930, synonymous with the emergence of the modern German metropolis as an aesthetic object, the project assesses, compares and contrasts how musical life in the Musikstädte was perceived and portrayed by writers in an increasingly noisy urban environment. How does urban musical life influence and condition city writings? What are the differences and similarities between the writings on various musical cities? Can an urban textual sound identity be derived from these differences and similarities? The approach employed to answer these questions is a new, cross-disciplinary one to urban sound in literature, moving beyond reading the key sounds of the urban soundscape using urban musicology, sensorial anthropology and cultural poetics towards a literary contextualisation of the urban aural experience. The literary motifs of the symphony, the gramophone and urban noise are put under the spotlight through the analysis of a wide range of modernist works by authors who have a special relationship with music. At the centre of this analysis are the Kaffeehausliteratur authors Hermann Bahr, Alfred Polgar and Peter Altenberg, the then Munich-based author Thomas Mann and the lesser known René Schickele. The analysis of these particular works is framed in the music-geographical context of the Musikstadt and literary underpinnings of this topos, ranging from Ingeborg Bachmann to Hans Mayer and, once again, Thomas Mann. In analysing these texts, the methodological approach devised by Strohm, who identifies the blending of a range of urban sounds as a definition of urban space and identity, is applied. His ideas combine historical literary analysis, musical history and urban sociology.     Nonrelativistic Heavy Quarkonium Model Descended from a Quasi-Particle Approach

    A Schr¨odinger-type equation for a heavy quarkonium in terms of the dynamical quark mass is obtained in a quasi-particle (QP) approach by Llanes-Estrada and Cotanch. To observe the relationship between the obtained equation and the constituent quark (potential) model equation, we treat the dynamical quark mass by a constant parameter M and expand the equation in 1/M up to order (1/M). The equation reduces to that of the traditional nonrelativistic constituent quark(CQ) model when a nonlocal interaction is neglected. We investigate the nonrelativistic model where the dynamical quark mass M in the Schr¨odinger-type equation is treated as a free parameter and call it the quasi-quark (QQ) model.     Cancer is one of the non-communicable diseases that has become a health problem in the world, including in Indonesia. Data World Health Organization (WHO) data in 2010 showed that cancer is the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease. Mean while, result at Basic Health Research Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) 2007 showed that cancer ranks sixth in the leading cause of death in Indonesia. Number of cancer patients in Indonesia continues to increase and is expected to be the main cause of the increasing economic burden, for the patient, family, and also country. Types of cancer in Indonesia is dominated by breast cancer (30%) cervical cancer (24%). This study aims to determine the effect of a combination of rumput mutiara (Hedyotis corymbosa Lamk) and meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L) against mammary adenocarcinoma in strain C3H mice. This study is an experimental study. The study sample consisted of 20 strains of C3H mice that were divided into 4 groups: control group (K) and three dose groups ( P1 - P3 ), namely : dose 750 ; 1500; 2250 mg/kg BW. Extract of the test material were given after the tumor is palpable, It was given to the mice for 19 days, once a day orally using a stomach sonde. The results of this study indicate that based on the average number of AgNOR mammary adenocarcinoma, the extract at a dose of 2250 mg/kg BW can reduce the proliferation of mammary tumor cells

Dew water is stated can be used for disorder of blood circulation treatment. For the examination effect of dew water for blood circulation disorder, dew water was tested for blood description and biochemistry blood description at the animal model with cholesterol diet.It was the experimental pharmacology method, with the blood description as hamoglobline, erythrocyte, leucocyte, thrombocyte, hematochrite value; biochemistry description as total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, trigliserid; freeze time of blood; the arteri thickness ; body weight and the volume of intake water.     Uji Antimalaria Ekstrak Buah Morinda citrifolia dan Aktivitas Makrofag pada Mencit (Mus musculus) setelah Diinfeksi Plasmodium berghei

    Malaria is a world wide disease. Death resulting from the disease was caused by the parasite’s resistance to the malaria drugs and the problem of immune system. The aims of the research were to know the effect of M. citrifolia fruit extract to Plasmodium berghei on total red blood cells of mice, and to know the effect of the extract on the number of intraperitoneal macrophage phagositosing latex after infected by P. berghei. Three doses of fruit extract, 200, 150, 100 mg/kg BB were used in this study. Fansidar was used as positive control, while destilled water was used as negative control. The result of this research indicated that dose of 200 mg/kg BB could reduce number of parasitemia to 3.576%, dose of 150 mg/kg BB to 4.107%, and dose of 100 mg/kg BB to 13.331% on day 5, and could not reduce any number of parasitemia on the next day. Inhibition by Fansidar reached 0.201%, while distilled water did not show any inhibition activity. Different macrophage activity on phagositosing latex was taken place. The average of macrophage activity on phagositosing latex at dose of 200 mg/kg BB was 3.8x106 cell, at dose of 150 mg/kg BB was 2.53x106 cell/mL, while at dose 100 mg/kg BB was 1.5x106 cell/mL, and 2.43x106 cell/mL for the control. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the reduction of the number of parasitemia taken place at dose 200 and 150 mg/kg BB, although its activity is much lower than malaria drug of Fansidar.     The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright @ 2006 American Psychological AssociationAlthough Theodor Reik was a celebrated psychoanalyst during the 1950s and 1960s, his work has not resulted in the development of a specific psychoanalytic tradition, and his name has gradually disappeared from Western cultural memory. Following the mode of argumentation of the reductio ad absurdum, the author critically examines six possible explanations for this remarkable observation, thereby drawing on published materials and archival sources relating to the life and works of Reik. Once these explanations have been discarded, the author argues that the main reason for the absence of a Reikian tradition within psychoanalysis stems from Reik's belief in the analytic virtue of intellectual independence. This belief may have contributed to his own departure from the psychoanalytic training institution that he helped to create, yet it also implies that Reikian psychoanalysis somehow lives on in all those practitioners who do not seek to affiliate with a doctrinal school of thought

    Two-Dimensional Fiber Positioning and Clamping Device for Product-Internal Microassembly

    In this paper, we present a microelectromechanical systems-based two-degrees-of-freedom positioning device combined with a clamping structure for positioning and constraining an optical fiber. The fiber position can be controlled in the two directions perpendicular to the fiber axis using two specifically designed wedges that can be accurately moved in-plane. These wedges are positioned using in-plane thermal actuators. Actuation of a fiber tip greater than 25 ?m in-plane and 40 ?m out-of-plane is achieved with a displacement resolution better than 0.1 ?m. After aligning the fiber the final position can be maintained by switching off themechanical clamp, which also uses thermal actuators. The position of the fiber can be kept within 0.1 ?m after switching off the mechanical clamp and the positioning actuator.
