The form of songs that become accompaniment in the art of Reog Singo Menggolo has 2 gendhing accompaniments, namely gendhing sampak as an accompaniment to the jathilan and singobarongan dances, and gendhing giro as an accompaniment to the bujangganong kecil dance and the bujangganong besar dance.98 PagesSkripsi Sarjan
Disrupting the imaginaries of urban action to deliver just adaptation
Urban adaptation relates to how people imagine plausible and desirable urban futures. Adaptation imaginaries refer to collective representations of how society should act and towards which goal in the context of unprecedented climate change impacts. However, the existing narratives of adaptation action tend to entrench actions that may not be beneficial in the long term and may lead to maladaptation and inequities. This is the case, for example, of flood protection barriers that displace natural barriers, such as mangroves, or water distribution networks that supply water by depleting reserves elsewhere. New adaptation imaginaries will facilitate just adaptation and enable radical changes in the relationship between humans and their environment. One step to do so is to disrupt the dominant understandings of adaptation. The aim of this special issue is to demonstrate the multiple ways in which such disruption can happen. Three areas where disruption can happen are: (1) in international political narratives, (2) in the relationship between climate change and urbanisation and (3) in the implementation of action on the ground when action encounters the realities of infrastructure and service delivery. This special issue argues that the first step in delivering climate change adaptation is to foster new ways of imagining what adaptation is needed and how it should be delivered. First, there should be efforts to understand the assumptions embedded in dominant imaginaries of urban adaptation. Second, there is a need to understand how urbanisation changes how we imagine urban areas and their resilience. Third, radical attempts to reimagine adaptation are already taking place in daring adaptation practices. Fourth, disruptive frameworks exist to challenge dominant imaginaries, but there is a need for more practical, embedded experiences of urban adaptation alternatives. © 2024 The Author(s).This special issue represents a collaboration between two projects funded by the European Research Council: Low Carbon Action in Ordinary Cities (LOACT) (grant agreement number 804051, PI: Vanesa Cast\u00E1n Broto) and IMAGINE adaptation (grant agreement number 101039429, PI: Marta Olazabal)

On the deployment of scientific knowledge for a new urbanism of the anthropocene
In this chapter, the author reflects on the experiences of working within international scientific assessments and expert groups and working to build new vocabularies for urban futures in the hope of influencing new climate urbanism models of the Anthropocene. The Anthropocene is the age of global environmental assessments. These assessments examine the present state of knowledge about environmental problems and solutions on a planetary scale. They include various modalities of deliberative panels of international scientists, such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and so on. The focus on heterogeneous configurations of infrastructure requires understanding that multiple ways of governing and accessing infrastructure coexist in cities. When assessments focus on cities and urban areas, they have to address the interests of policy makers, city managers, and planers in ways that restrict the framing of the report and define what is within or without its scope
Symbolic violence and the politics of environmental pollution science: The case of coal ash pollution in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Environmental justice movements often contest environmental knowledge by engaging in scientific debates, which implies accepting the predominance of scientific discourses over alternative forms of knowledge. Using Bourdieu's concept of symbolic violence, this paper warns that the engagement with hegemonic forms of knowledge production may reproduce, rather than challenge, existing social and environmental inequalities. The argument is developed with reference to a case study of coal ash pollution in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The case study shows that the construction of knowledge in a scientific project led to the exclusion of local definitions of the situation and the dismissal of their observations of environmental pollution. The case suggests that the capacity of different actors to put forward their interpretation of an environmental issue depends on the forms of symbolic violence that emerge within hegemonic discourses of the environment. © 2012 The Author.
Greece as a path for freedom: Jose María Heredia's philhellenism
José María Heredia published in 1823 the first philhellenic Spanish poem with expressed name of author, which sets in parallel the independence of Greece and the freedom that he wanted for Cuba. His personal files preserve a damaged book with philhellenic poems in French and a Spanish translation written in the margins. Critics have as yet been unable to determine the title of the book and the author to which they belong. The identification of this collection of French poems will allow us to follow the steps of philhellenism in the Caribbean as a language of rebellion and freedom
Droit de suite is granted by copyright law and provides the author of an original
work of art with the right to claim a share of the profits on the resale of his work of art. The sale must involve a professional party or intermediary, such as salesrooms, art galleries and, in general, any dealers in works of art.
This right was first regulated in France in 1920, but it was not until 1987 that
droit de suite was recognized by the Spanish Copyright Act. Nonetheless, this late
recognition also happened in many other countries. In fact, only six European countries had legal provisions for this right in the 1950s. The greatest achievement for the recognition of droit de suite took place when it was included in the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works which established optional recognition of droit de suite by the States of the Berne Union.
In recent years, the gradual recognition in copyright law of the so-called «rights
to remuneration» and the spectacular increase in the turnover of the art market has raised the interest in droit de suite, as it may provide copyright holders of a work of art with higher and higher royalties. As a result, many countries have decided to introduce the droit de suite in their copyright legislation. Indeed, the European Union has adopted the Directive 2001/84/EC on the resale right for the benefit of the author of an original work of art that compels all the Member States to recognize this right.
Despite this, the international recognition of droit de suite cannot be considered
completed. This right is only recognized in the international arena according to the principle of material reciprocity, which must be seen as a failure for its global recognition. Unlike other less controversial copyright issues, there are powerful detractors of droit de suite, especially the countries that follow common law tradition and consider this right to be a threat to the competitiveness of their art markets. The three leading countries in the global art market –United States, United Kingdom and China– have been reluctant to accept the droit de suite; the United States and China still offer resistance against its implementation
while the United Kingdom was compelled to regulate it according to the
Directive 2001/84/EC on the resale right.
Last but not least, there is an increasing academic interest in studying the droit de
suite. Traditionally, scholars did not pay too much attention to this right, so its legal nature and theoretical justification seems to be open to debate. All these legal and dogmatic aspects must be studied in relation to its economic effects, so it seems necessary to analyze this right from both, the legal and an economic perspective, in order to analyze it and explain the economic effect of droit de suite on the art market
Impact of metallization techniques of surface passivation of high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells
Most of the high-efficiency c-Si solar cells are based on dielectric films that electrically passivate c-Si
surface and must keep their passivation properties after metal deposition on top of them. This work studies the impact
of three different aluminum Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) methods (thermal, e-beam, sputtering) on the c-Si
surface passivation provided by SiO2 and Al2O3 films. Effective surface recombination velocity is measured before
and after metal deposition. Results show that e-beam and sputtering techniques degrade surface passivation while
thermal evaporation has no impact. Surface passivation can be recovered and even improved by means of an
annealing with the aluminum film on top of the dielectric leading to the so-called alnealing. Additionally, after this
alnealing Capacitance-Voltage measurements and lifetime spectroscopy analysis suggest a strong dependence of
fixed charge density for SiO2 films on the metal deposition technique that helps in c-Si surface passivation.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
