An open-source reference framework for the implementation of type 3 Asset Administration Shells
Seamlessly integrating assets into distributed digital ecosystems based on Industry 4.0/5.0 demands measurable impact: lower engineering cost, interoperability and adaptability. SMIA (Self-configurable Manufacturing Industrial Agents) addresses this as an reference framework for implementing autonomous digital counterparts of assets, unifying industrial and software standards. Its dual-layer architecture combines machine-interpretable semantic modeling with distributed functional software, enhancing interoperability, flexibility, and autonomy. SMIA represents assets by executing domain-specific tasks and performing peer-to-peer communication through standardized interfaces. Following open scientific software principles, it integrates mature technologies and provides reproducible deployment artifacts (e.g., Docker), ensuring traceability and extensibility while reducing engineering effort and technological fragmentation.University of the Basque Country (EHU) [grant number PIF23/223]

The effect of a hybrid educational escape room on undergraduate nursing students’ nursing process knowledge
This study examined differences in declarative knowledge acquisition between a hybrid educational escape room and traditional lecture-based learning (LBL), and explored students’ experiences with the gamified intervention.
A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design was conducted with 152 second-year nursing students. The experimental group completed a hybrid escape room combining on-site and digital tasks, while the control group received LBL. Declarative knowledge was assessed in both groups, and game-related experiences were measured in the experimental group.
Students in the experimental group showed significantly greater improvements in learning outcomes compared to those in the control group. Participants also reported positive experiences, including enjoyment, activation, creative thinking, autonomy and absorption.
Hybrid educational escape rooms can enhance learning outcomes while fostering positive learning experiences. Implications for international audience: Hybrid escape rooms may be effective across diverse educational systems, suggesting that knowledge gains can occur independently of changes in motivation or subjective enjoyment
Partial privatization and the degree of corporate social responsibility of private investors
A significant issue for study is what type of private investor governments should sell public firms to: those who care about corporate social responsibility (CSR) or those who are profit-maximizers. To analyze this issue we measure CSR concern through consumer surplus and consider a market in which a private and a public firm compete. We find that the decision taken by the government crucially depends on the social concern of the rival private firm. When that firm cares about CSR, selling part of the public firm to socially concerned private investors is no worse than selling to profit-maximizing investors. However, when the private firm maximizes profits the opposite result is obtained. In addition, from a social welfare viewpoint, when social concern is not high it is desirable for all private investors to engage in CSR. Otherwise, it is preferable for them not to care about society. This work was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (grant number PID2019-105291 GB-I00 MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033); the Basque Government (grant number IT1461-22); and Grupos UPV/EHU (grant number GIU23/013)

Environmental taxes when firms care about environmental corporate social responsibility
This paper studies the incentive by governments to implement emissions taxes when firms are environmentally friendly. We find that the decision of governments on whether to establish a tax or not depends on three factors: the degree of environmental concern of the firms, the R&D knowledge disclosed by them and whether governments cooperate in setting taxes. When countries do not cooperate and firms do not share their knowledge both countries set emissions taxes for low levels of the concern, while either firm sets taxes if the concern is sufficiently high. If countries cooperate, they want to implement taxes for higher values of the concern. Under full information disclosure, when countries do not cooperate an asymmetric equilibrium arises: only one country implements a tax for intermediate values of the concern. However, when countries cooperate they levy taxes for all the values of concern. Thus, cooperation encourages governments to implement environmental policies
Everyday nationalism in individualised political practices. Young left-wing Basque nationalists experiencing the nation in changing times
This article is based on a qualitative case study focusing on the ways in which young leftwing
nationalists in the Basque Country experience the nation in different areas of their
lives, outside of political organisations. The analysis shows, on the one hand, the
emergence of individualisation processes of youth practices in the current project of
reconstruction and reformulation of left-wing Basque nationalism and the incorporation
of these practices into everyday life. On the other hand, it confirms the diversification of
meanings attributed to the nation, which runs parallel to the inclusion of global political
agendas of the contemporary social movements in this current of nationalism, and the
plurality of interests and positions which the different young nationalists use to assert their
agency
Temperature and vector bending sensing with a supermode fiber Bragg grating
Due to their multiple advantages, single-mode fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are widely used in a myriad of practical sensing applications. However, their concurrent sensitivity to strain and temperature makes a reference sensor necessary in several situations. Here, we demonstrate that a single supermode FBG can be used to measure bending and temperature. A specially designed two coupled-core optical fiber (TCCF) that supports two supermodes was fabricated in which gratings were inscribed with femtosecond or ultraviolet lasers. The interrogation of the gratings was carried out with a conventional FBG sensor interrogator. It was found that the reflection spectrum of the supermode grating depended on its inscription in the TCCF. So, it was possible to fabricate samples in which the reflection spectra exhibited two narrow peaks very close to each other with well-defined Bragg wavelengths and reflectivities. Cross sensitivities and polarization effects on the devices were studied. It was found that two Bragg wavelengths and two reflectivities provided abundant data to measure bending of the TCCF, temperature, and to discriminate in which direction the TCCF was bent. Thus, we believe that the results reported here can pave the way for next-generation grating-based specialty optical fiber devices that are capable of multiparameter sensing. The results and approaches proposed here can also expand the use of Bragg grating technology. This work was funded in part through Projects PDC2022-133885-I00; PID2023-152763NB-I00; INNOFIBER PID2023-152314OB-I00, and SMARTMOORING Cetp-2022-00382, PCI2023-145987-2 funded by the Spanish MCIU/AEI /10.13039/501100011033 and the European Union Next Generation EU/PRTR, IT11452-22 funded by the Basque Government and P2022-06 funded by the EU Horizon2020 Actphast4R GA 825051.
