O barierach kulturowych w tłumaczeniu tekstów specjalistycznych na przykładzie tłumaczenia déclaration de porte-fort
The complexity of the relationship between language and culture is reflected in the multifaceted interplay between a text model and a corresponding context model. As an intermediary between two texts and thereby two contexts, the translator is involved in a double intracultural and intercultural relationship revealing an array of cultural differences that the author divides into three categories. The author analysed a translation of a French legal text that has no textual equivalent in legal Polish; the translation was performed by people with varying translation experience. The author concludes that the real barrier to translating specialist text is not so much cultural differences as rather the inability to use them properly in translation.Złożoność związku języka z kulturą odzwierciedla się w wieloaspektowej relacji między danym modelem tekstu a odpowiadającym mu modelem kontekstu.
This paper aims to show the consequences of a lack of standardization in translation of titles of art works. The author examines Polish title translations of two Vincent van Gogh’s paintings in order to verify how title translation strategies have been applied. The paper concludes that there are no coherent translation strategies and that Polish versions result in indirect translation. This paper aims to show the consequences of a lack of standardization in translation of titles of art works. Między paradygmatami. Problemy terminologiczne w przekładzie ofert nieruchomości
The aim of this paper is to present problems translating real estate terms into French. The author analyses translations of real estate with regard to the translator’s terminological precision and its impact on the retention of the basic functions of the original
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Zdefiniować budownictwo mieszkaniowe
Le présent article a pour vocation de comparer différentes formes d’habitat individuel et collectif en Pologne et en France du point de vue notionnel et terminologique. L’auteur se propose d’analyser les similitudes et les divergences entre les champs notionnels et terminologiques liés à l’habitat dans les deux pays concernés afin de voir si d’éventuels écarts terminologiques se doublent de ceux notionnels. The purpose of this article is to make contrastive analysis of different forms of single-family and multi-family housing construction in Poland and France. Assuming that each specialist area has created its conceptual field, which is reflected in the corresponding terminological field, the author tries to find out whether and to what extent conceptual and terminological fields related to housing construction in Poland and France coincide, and to what extent they differ. And how far conceptual differences correspond to terminological differences, if any, and what they arise from.
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
L’interdisciplinarité dans la traduction spécialisée
The paper is aimed at presenting interdisciplinarity in specialist text translation. It starts with an overview of different forms of interdisciplinarity against a background of other types of relations between different fields. Then the author moves on to the presentation of various manifestations of field interdisciplinarity (involving different fields) in architectural design translations
How to translate verbal comicality
In this article the author presents a selection of results of studies of verbal comicality in Rabelaise and
as it is translated by T. Boy-Żeleński. The results were obtained through the use of the method of
comparison of laughter-creating mechanisms of comic sequences in LD and LA, based on the theory of
connotations as developed by C. Kerbrat-Orecchioni
