De buena madera: Trabajos de Heloisa Crocco

    No full text
Heloisa Crocco developed her artistic talent by being surrounded by the green of the jungle nature, perceiving this enormous garden as the binomial Art-Nature translated as an exaltation of life. In 2010, with more than thirty years of experience, the Brazilian designer brought out her book Topomorfose, which brings together the results of an exhaustive research carried out throughout her career. The protagonist of the text is wood. The book is accompanied by thoughts and concepts as well as poems by Juan Alberto Nemer and photos by Fabio del Re, VivaFoto and Carlos Stein. Topomorfose becomes, page by page, her philosophy and the author\u27s understanding of herself and the world, as well as showing her experience that in some way defines her life\u27s quest.Heloisa Crocco desarrolló su talento artístico al estar rodeada del verde de la naturaleza selvática, percibiendo este enorme jardín como el binomio Arte-Naturaleza traducido como una exaltación de la vida. Type A botulinum toxin treatment for chronic anal fissure

    No full text
We read with great interest the systematic review on efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin treatment in patients with anal fissure by E. Yiannakopoulou. The manuscript is well written, complete and exhaustive. The review of the literature data is careful and rigorous. This systematic review aimed to answer several primary questions. The intention to give an answer to all these questions makes the paper even more interesting. We agree with the author that botulinum toxin consists of an alternative effective therapeutic modality for the treatment of anal fissure

Investment decision and methodology: Keynes and neoclassical

    No full text
The aim of this paper is, in analysing the investment decision, to show how methodological differences can determine differences in the theories and statements about economic events. Two views were chosen, Keynes and neoclassical, and theoretical and methodological comparisons were made. These allowed the author to conclude that there is a direct relationship between the methodology used by each school of thought and its understanding of the investment process. The paper is structured in five sections. In the first two, the two investment theories are briefly presented. In section three, a theoretical comparison is made aiming to clarify the most important differences. In section four, it is shown that underlying the theoretical differences between the two schools of thought, there is a deeper methodological difference, in such a way that the latter determines the former. Finally, some conclusions are drawn, showing how the methodological differences dictate the theoretical statements

Gödel, Leibniz and "Russell's mathematical logic"

    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents an overview of what is known about Kurt Gödel's reading Leibniz. The only published work in which Gödel explicitly mentions Leibniz's work is "Russell's mathematical logic" edited in 1944 by Schilpp for the Library of Living Philosophers. The author presents the available evidence (including the published and unpublished material of the Gödel archives and the transcriptions of Gödel's conversations with Hao Wang in 1970) which prove the deep influence of Leibniz on Gödel philosophical reflections and in his scientific work. The author shows how , on the basis of the unpublished material, the intricate structure of Gödel's paper on Russell reveals a every clear and Leibnizian conception of the nature of logic and of the problems to be solved in order to achieve, in modern terms, Leibniz's program of the Characteristica

Sinn/Bedeutung and Intension/Extension in Gödel's Max Phil IX

    No full text
International audienceThis paper is diveided into three main parts. In the first part the author presents three conjectures about the Gödelian notion of concept formulated on the basis of the available published material some years ago, before the analysis of the Max Phil. In the second part, she presents a first group of remarks from Max Phil IX, showing that all the elements, which were considered to be a part of the enigmatic Gödelian notion of concept are actually discussed in these manuscripts. In the third part the author comments upon two longer remarks from Max Phil IX, which seem to give very good clues to specify and partially corroborate one of the conjectures

‘Materie piacevolissime da leggere e utili da essequire’ : the introductory letters in Leonardo Fioravanti's Capricci medicinali

    No full text
This contribution examines the changes in the type and sequence of paratexts at the beginning of Leonardo Fioravanti’s Capricci medicinali from the first edition (1561) to the 1680 edition. The aim of this paper is to study the building of a selfimage and promotion of Fioravanti and his medicine via the paratextual letters. This was the first and most published of Fioravanti’s works which spread in Venice, one of the most vital book markets of sixteenth-century Europe, and attracted the attention of publishers and public. After a description of the different paratextual elements, this contribution briefly focuses on two specific texts, i.e., Dionigi Atanagi’s letter in praise of Fioravanti as an ideal physician and writer of medical matter, and Fioravanti's Ragionamento. Self-care and self-fashioning serve each other and collaborate to draw as much attention as possible on the Capricci but also on its author and even on Atanagi, a most popular polygraph at that time, as an ideal reader of the work. The parallel narration of those two texts creates a fruitful echo effect that amplifies the results and possibly contributed to the success of the Capricci medicinali

Produrre un'analisi sull'inserimento lavorativo a partire da Foucault

International audienceIn 2013 I submitted the doctoral thesis entitled ‘INSERTION PAR L’ACTIVITÉ ÉCONOMIQUE’: ENTRE VIVRE EN COMMUN ET TRAVAIL. Analyse de l‘emergence’ of an apparatus. My thesis tutor was Prof. Yves Schwartz and it was presented at Aix-Marseille University, financed under the convention of the CIFRE∗ procedure. The poster which I have displayed concisely summarises the work carried out for this thesis, showing how some conceptual and methodological elements of the path of Foucault can be useful also when working on some topics which fall outside his themes. This requires one condition: to specify how the concepts that are used emerge during the reflections of the author before appropriating and adapting them to this research, which is necessary to avoid inappropriate extrapolations and decontestualisations. The research was developed around the hypothesis according to which the process of work placement seems to be constituted above all as a heterotopia, a sort of ‘crutch’ of the capitalist system, with the function of ‘repairing’ and ‘stemming’ the damage inherent to the system. Following this, it has installed itself in society as an apparatus, for its ability to function as a network and as a mechanism of ‘governmentality’ and of ‘subjection’. This apparatus is though, in reality, an ‘open’ apparatus towards the lines of escape that produce new subjectivities, that is, starting from the norms generated by the apparatus they seem able to transform themselves at opportunities of innovation. The main reference to Foucault in this research project relates to his historical-critical tendancy which has been applied in the attempt to keep together historical (geneocological) analyses and political and social commitments, on precise themes which are locally individualisable

A new insight into Gödel's notion of concept through the Max-Phil

    No full text
Our work aims at studying the unpublished texts of Kurt Gödel, known as the Max-Phil, in which the author develops his philosophical thought. This study follows the specific issue of conceptual realism which is adopted by Gödel in his published texts (during his lifetime or posthumously), and according to which concepts are independent of our definitions and constructions. We want to show that a consistent interpretation of the Max-Phil is possible. To do so, we propose an interpretation of some excerpts, which, even if it is only hypothetical, can give new elements in order to answer open questions of the published texts, e.g. questions about conceptual realism. This last position is not understandable without explaining Gödel’s notion of concept. For him, concepts are logical and objective entities, and they are at the core of a theory of concepts, which is conceived as an intensional logic, following Leibniz’s scientia generalis. The analysis of the Max-Phil underlines that we can understand the notion of concept and the primacy of conceptual realism over mathematical realism only in the light of Gödel’s metaphysical frame, i.e. of a monadology inspired by Leibniz. Thus the Max-Phil shows how Gödel reinvestigates Leibnizian monadology, and offers some clues on the modifications he makes on it in order to include concepts. The examination of this metaphysical frame tends to elucidate the relationships between objective concepts, subjective concepts (as we know them) and symbols (through which we express concepts), and also the relationship between logic and mathematics

‘By consultation of elevated minds’: the role of paratexts in Giovanni Battista Calderari's comedies

    No full text
Genette's Seuils considers the dramatic paratext as the odd one out, and, indeed, the early-modern theatrical paratext has remained understudied. This article discusses the paratexts of the comedies of Giovanni Battista Calderari, a sixteenth-century author quite neglected by scholars, whose works were published in Vicenza and Venice. By focusing on the paratexts of La Mora (The Moorish Woman, 1588), La schiava (The Slave Woman, 1589), and Armida (1600), the article stresses Calderari's attempts to clarify his poetic ideas and his endeavours to create a network of intellectuals and obtain their opinions about his work. These interlocutors belonged to the knights of Malta and the Vicenzan Accademia Olimpica, two circles to which Calderari himself belonged, but they also were authoritative Venetian intellectuals. His insertion of poems and letters that praise his person and work, reveals his attempt to promote himself and his writings. He tries to promote himself not only as a military man or a great Vicenzan poet, but as a scholar of theatre who is able to juggle poetic discourse and is worthy to be considered by intellectuals, though he ultimately seems to have failed to really assert himself on the Venetian cultural scene and the Vicenzan stage
