    Variations on the Author

    No full text
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

I am part of different universes that make up scenic art, from execution, being a flying dancer, to directing, managing and producing, being an entrepreneur who is passionate about building experiences for her community. I thought that ballet was everything, until I discovered my own movement through contemporary dance and aerial circus. I fell in love with who I am, the color of my skin and the shape of my bones. Today I express myself, investigate and move through these three languages, playing to find my voice to relate to the world between ballet slippers, bare feet and flying devices. My sincerity, vulnerability and humility are my motives and means to connect with the world, build and learn together with my community. For this reason, I am also passionate about movement as a flow of learning, as an energetic sharing of experiences where my art dialogues and is transformed with the art of each person. I share what moves me by undertaking and launching myself to build with my company Adagio, art and expression, a space that allows me to explore all the languages that inhabit me, researching and creating as a director, manager and producer. In my home, Cali, there is that living dream, where I can be myself, complete. Where I give my community a house to live and share art. I'm Isabella. I am a movement that connects, dances, flies and transforms. Link: isabelladelgadog.comMaestro (a) en Artes EscénicasPregrad

    No full text
The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes became a symbolic space in the memory of Isabella I of Castile. Although the royal cenotaphs were never executed, the funerary monument preserved her presence throughout the Early Modern period. The funeral cloths, made of velvet and brocade, reflected power and textile magnificence while also adhering to the queen’s testamentary wish for austerity. This study examines the role of textiles in the funerary scenography and their connection to the Habsburg tradition and royal imagery
