Cyanobacteria phylogenetic studies reveal evidence for polyphyletic genera from thermal and freshwater habitats
Cyanobacteria are among the most diverse morphological microorganisms that inhabit a great variety of habitats. Their presence in the Azores, a volcanic archipelago of nine islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, has already been reported. However, due to the high diversity of cyanobacteria habitats, their biodiversity is still understudied, mainly in extreme environments. To address this, a total of 156 cyanobacteria strains from Azores lakes, streams, thermal and terrestrial habitats were isolated. Identification was made based on a polyphasic approach using classical taxonomy (morphological characteristics and environmental data) and phylogeny among 81 strains assessed by maximum likelihood and Bayesian analysis of 16S rDNA partial sequences. The 156 isolates showed a high genera diversity (38) belonging to the orders Chroococcales, Nostocales, Oscillatoriales, and Synechococcales. Eleven new genera for the Azores habitats are here reported, reinforcing that cyanobacteria biodiversity in these islands is still much understudied. Phylogenetic analysis showed 14 clusters associated with these cyanobacteria orders, with evidence for six new genera and valuable information towards Microchaete/Coleospermum taxonomic revision that better reflects species environmental distribution. These results emphasize the need for cyanobacteria taxonomy revisions, through polyphasic studies, mainly in Synechococcales order and in the Microchaete/Coleospermum, Nostoc, and Anabaena genera.Rita Cordeiro was supported by a Ph.D. grant (M3.1.a/F/017/2015) from the Fundo Regional da Ciência e Tecnologia (FRCT). Euronet Lab, A Cloud V-Lab Enviroment
In this paper we present a proposal for the creation of a European V-labs web space. In its essence it would result in an open online laboratory, with a primarily practical nature. In this laboratory students will have the opportunity to develop skills in the “know-how-to-do” area, enabling them to conduct a series of practical experiences in “try-out” philosophy that will substantiate and consolidate all knowledge that the students acquired in lectures. It is quite possible that these resources aren’t available in all universities and institutions, specifically in the university where the student is. This environment provides substance to the Directive stated in the declarations of Bologna and Prague that expresses “the teaching process is therefore student-centered”, strengthening the final pedagogical aim of “learning to learn”, as lifelong learning is assumed as an indispensable stage. What we propose is the creation of a virtual environment for e-learning where a series of virtual labs in many areas of electronics, automation and robotics are available, in this environment it will do possible for any student of any of these universities to scheduling of experience in any institution that belongs to this cloud, and thus can perform is work for anytime that will be available and with technical resources available or not available in its own university.Com o apoio RAADRI
Spittle protein profile of Mahanarva spectabilis (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) fed various elephant grass genotypes.
An understanding of the interaction between spittlebugs and forage grasses is essential for establishing factors that favor productive pastures. In the present study, we evaluated the protein profiles of the spittle of Mahanarva spectabilis (Distant, 1909) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) fed various elephant grass genotypes. Each plant was infested with a single fifth-instar M. spectabilis. After 24 h, samples of the spittle produced by each nymph were collected and stored at -20°C, after which their protein profiles were analyzed. The exclusivity or interactions of the proteins present in the spittle produced by the insects revealed the susceptibility of the tested genotypes. The results indicate that groups of genotypes show identical spittle protein profiles when subjected to attack by spittlebugs. Resistant and susceptible elephant grass genotypes exhibited high similarity indices within each group. The similarity index was low for the resistance control species (Brachiaria brizantha) compared with that of the tested elephant grass genotypes. Qualitative and quantitative studies of the proteins expressed in the most promising materials will be performed in an ongoing genetic improvement program seeking to develop genotypes resistant to spittlebugs, which are the main biotic pests of elephant grasses

Realidades conversas. Andrés de Fonseca y su familia (ss. XVI y XVII)
Andrés de Fonseca (1584-c. 1665) spent most of his life in Castile. The New Christian had been born in Portugal, at the end of his life, he converted to judaism and died about 1665 in Pisa. Showing common and particular traits as well, the development of Andrés de Fonseca and his relatives reflects the history of the Portuguese New Christians. As so many Jewish converts and their descendents, the family moved between Christianity and Judaism, between integration and migration. At the same time, the biographies of Andrés de Fonseca and his two sons showed an unsusual combination of academic orientation and financial activities. Furthermore, the three developed a remarkable religious and social ambiguity with some extraordinary intellectual consequences.
In Rubem Fonseca's tales, it is common to find several "intertextualized" discourses, with works, characters, quotations and discussions around famous Brazilian and foreign literary authors who are, in different contexts and literary constructions, placed in the fonsequiana prose, directly or indirectly. In this way, we will take an approach taking into account three important short stories of Fonseca: "Encontro no Amazonas" (from the book O Cobrador), "Romance Negro" (from Romance Negro) and "A matéria do sonho" (from the book Lúcia McCartney). The reading of these tales, in part, suggests to us that there is an intense dialogue between the national and the foreigner, in which death assumes a decisive role for the self-assertion of the foreign tradition in our literature. This dialogue also allows us to identify the relationship between the fonsequiana prose and the narratives of E.T.A. Hoffmann and Edgar A. Poe, since it is possible that some compositions of these authors have drawn a dialogue with the literary constructions of Rubem Fonseca, which in this sense made possible the re- reading of the works of Poe and Hoffmann. In this way, we also emphasize the relation of the fonsequiana prose with the Greek tragedy, relating the use of the mask to the farce and the exchange of identity in the Rubem Fonseca literature. To this end, we consider Maurice Blanchot's theories about the death of the author, Otto Rank, referring to the notion of double and Sigmund Freud, about psychoanalysis.CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorNos contos de Rubem Fonseca é comum encontrarmos diversos discursos “intertextualizados”, com obras, personagens, citações e discussões em torno de famosos autores literários brasileiros e estrangeiros que são, em diferentes contextos e construções literárias, postos na prosa fonsequiana, direta ou indiretamente.
Ontology: a support structure for a V-Labs Network, the Euronet - Lab
This paper presents work on the establishment of a virtual laboratories network, based on the concept of Virtual Closet that will contain all the elements and parts required to build the different experiences available in a vlabs network (that we call Euronet-Lab). To build this complex network it is necessary to find an adequate support. The large database of v-labs and independent elements that can integrate this structure allows the “recycling” of elements for purposes diverse from those they were originally created. This means to “re-use” the same element several times in different scenarios. In order to do this, it is necessary to have a structure that allows multiple instances of the same component. This paper will discuss the ontology essential to the establishment of such a network in order to standardize concepts and create uniform components description that supports the interaction between heterogeneous systems using shared parts or circuits.Com o apoio RAADRI
