    The role of educative thought in the life and work of Antonio Gramsci

    Many philosophers have propounded a vision of an improved society, what distinguishes Antonio Gramsci is his continuous effort to make it happen by understanding the process in order to put into practice. Gramsci's conviction about the importance of educative development came from both theory and experience. While there has been considerable examination of Gramsci's work in relation to the Prison Notebooks, this study will seek to address a lacuna in Gramsci scholarship. Using Gramsci's philological method, I analyse Gramsci's pre-prison activity; his pre-prison articles and letters, which, together with his letters from prison, formed part of his educative mission. This educative process was necessary, in order to construct a new party which would develop a collective will, collaboratively, with the masses.In this study therefore, I explore the contexts and formative experiences of the first part of his life together with the intellectual sources from which Gramsci developed his later theories, making central hitherto underemphasised connections between them which informed his writing and ideas. I intend to illustrate that Gramsci's underlying purpose in his writing, and political activity, was not only practical, on how to create a new socialist ruling class, but also educative in forming the mindset and values of his comrades. So that in addition to outlining his vision of a new order, he implicitly guided or explicitly explained the processes by which the necessary changes in social relations and moral climate could be made in order to achieve it. Each person had to engage with the values of the new order so that each could contribute to the construction of a new robust state. It was essential to build a hegemony at the most profound level, one which was dependent on collective understandings and a collective will

    Memórias dos profissionais de enfermagem do Hospital Nereu Ramos em época de aids (1986 - 1996)

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem.Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa com abordagem histórica, cujo objetivo foi historicizar as memórias dos profissionais de enfermagem acerca do surgimento da aids e sua evolução no Hospital Nereu Ramos (HNR) de Florianópolis/Santa Catarina (SC), no período compreendido entre 1986 e 1996. A escolha do período de tempo deve-se ao fato de, em 1986, terem sido notificados os três primeiros casos de aids em Florianópolis e, em 1996, o Ministério da Saúde ter instituído a política de acesso universal à terapia anti-retroviral no Brasil. Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com três enfermeiros, dois técnicos de enfermagem e dois auxiliares de enfermagem, recorrendo à história oral como método-fonte-técnica e à memória como referencial. A pesquisa respeitou as Diretrizes e Normas Regulamentadoras da Pesquisa envolvendo Seres Humanos recomendadas pela Resolução nº 196/96 e foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa da UFSC, com o parecer nº 0336/06. Para a análise e interpretação dos dados utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo temática, do qual surgiram as seguintes categorias e subcategorias: a memória sobre os enfrentamentos dos profissionais de enfermagem em época de aids # os enfrentamentos face à aids, às pessoas que viviam com HIV no HNR, ao risco de infecção pelo HIV, frente à família, amigos, sociedade, profissionais e instituições de saúde; do estigma ao reconhecimento do HNR como modelo de referência no tratamento da aids em SC; recordar o passado como espaço fortalecedor/vivificador do conceito de identidade e satisfação profissional na enfermagem. A discussão dos resultados permitiu constatar que a aids provocou mudanças expressivas no HNR como um todo e no comportamento dos profissionais de enfermagem que lá atuaram. O advento da aids e suas repercussões levaram a que os profissionais se mobilizassem no sentido de enfrentarem a doença, de se capacitarem para o cuidado de pessoas que vivem com HIV e para a melhoria dos cuidados e das condições de trabalho dentro da instituição. Isto tudo fez com que o HNR passasse de um hospital esquecido pela sociedade, para um hospital respeitado e reconhecido no tratamento da aids em SC. É possível concluir também, que passados mais de vinte anos do seu surgimento, a aids continua a representar um grande desafio para quem trabalha nessa área, e também para a sociedade, devido ao seu caráter estigmatizante e discriminatório. This is a qualitative research with a historical approach, that aimed to historicize the memories of the nursing professionals about the appearance and development of AIDS at the Nereu Ramos Hospital (HNR) of Florianópolis/Santa Catarina (SC), between 1986 and 1996. The selection of this period of time is due to the fact that, in 1986, were declared the 3 first cases of AIDS in Florianópolis, and in 1996, the Ministry of Health established the policy of universal access to antiretroviral therapy in Brazil. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three nurses, two nursing technicians and two nursing assistants, using verbal history as a method-source-technique and memory as referential. The research followed the ethical principles recommended by Resolution 196/96 and it was approved by the Research Ethics Board of the UFSC, under the protocol nº 0336/06. Thematic content analysis was used for the study and interpretation of data, from which the following categories and sub-categories emerged: the memory of the nursing professionals coping with AIDS # coping with AIDS, with people who lived with HIV at the HNR, with the risk of HIV infection, with family, friends, society, professionals and institutions; from stigma to the recognition of the HNR as a model of reference in the treatment of AIDS in SC; recalling the past as a strengthening space of the identity concept and professional satisfaction in nursing. The analysis of the results allows us to conclude that AIDS caused significant changes in HNR and in the behavior of the nursing professionals who worked there. The advent of AIDS and its consequences led professionals to develop efforts against the disease, conceive training programmes to take care of people living with HIV, and to improve care and working conditions within the institution. All this changed the HNR from a forgotten hospital by society into a respected and recognized hospital in the treatment of AIDS in SC. It is also possible to conclude that, more than twenty years after its appearance, AIDS still represents a major challenge for those who work in this area, and also for society, because of its stigmatizing and discriminating characte

    Opportunities and costs of portfolio diversification in sadc's smallest equity markets

    This paper contrasts the performance of three time series models, a simple stochastic drift, GARCH, and a time varying parameter CAPM for three of SADC's smallest equity markets: Namibia, Swaziland and Mozambique. Analysis of the portfolio characteristics for each reveals the level of integration with South Africa using optimised portfolio frontiers. In addition, the implications of adopting a minimum investment retention levy by the smaller states is examined. Namibia is found to exhibit the greatest degree of integration with South Africa, followed to a much lesser extent by Swaziland with Mozambique. The evidence suggests that investors in the smaller markets would face considerable additional costs should such a policy be adopted. © 2008 The Author.     Interest of women in birth houses in the Czech Republic

    Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřená na zájem žen o porodní domy v České republice. Teoretická část pojednává o přístupu k porodnímu procesu v historii, porodních domech a centrech, dynamice porodního procesu a možnosti výběru gynekologicko-porodnické péče v České republice a zahraničí, dále také o aktuální situaci v porodnictví v České republice. Cílem praktické části je zjistit, zda mají ženy zájem o porodní domy v České republice. Práce má poukázat na to, jaké ženy mají o tento druh péče a jak jim i v běžném zdravotnickém zařízení vyjít vstříc. Dle mého výzkumu má většina respondentek zájem o otevření porodního domu / porodního centra v České republice a za tuto péči je ochotna platit. Jejich motivací je nejčastěji touha po přirozeném porodu a informace většiny z nich pochází z vlastní zkušenosti s porodem.ObhájenoThis bachelor thesis is focused on the interest of women in free standing birth centres in the Czech Republic. The theoretical component discusses the approach towards the birth process throughout history, in free standing and alongside birth centres, including the dynamic of the birth process and the scope of choices of gynaecological obstetric care in the Czech Republic and elsewhere, as well as the current situation of obstetrics in the Czech Republic. The practical component aims to uncover whether women show interest in free standing birth centres in the Czech Republic. The thesis should identify, to which women these birth centres appeal to and how to meet their requirements even in a regular medical facility. According to my research, the majority of respondents showed interest in opening a free standing/ alongside birth centre in the Czech Republic and are willing to pay for such care. The incentive for this decision comes mainly from their desire for a natural delivery, which is mostly supported by their own previous childbirth experiences

    El método Montessori como estrategia pedagógica en la enseñanza de la lecto-escritura en aulas inclusivas

    The research work arose from the need to work with children who have some special educational need and are part of inclusive classrooms, which gave rise to go hand in hand with the Montessori method as a primary basis for the strengthening of literacy in primary basic education. For this reason, it was inquired about the teaching methodologies used by teachers for the development of competences in first grade students of the Don Bosco Social Center Educational Institution, recognizing the lack of strategies to achieve inclusion in the classrooms. For this reason, this research sought to build strategies that help the educational work of teachers and strengthen reading-writing skills in inclusive classrooms, in order to establish meaningful learning in the cognitive and affective spheres of students, favoring their processes and becoming a pedagogical instrument to support educational practices. The research was approached from the socio-critical paradigm, using an qualitative investigative approach and makes use of the descriptive method. According to the methodological process developed, various techniques were included such as documentary analysis, questionnaire, survey and interview. Therefore, the results presented in the research were sufficient to achieve the objectives present in the study, ending with the conclusions and recommendations for future research related to the subject.El proyecto de investigación surgió por la necesidad de trabajar con los niños que poseen alguna necesidad educativa especial y hacen parte de las aulas inclusivas, lo cual dio pie para ir de mano con el método Montessori como base primordial para el fortalecimiento de la lecto- escritura en la educación básica primaria. Por tal razón, se indagó acerca de las metodologías de enseñanza utilizadas por los docentes para el desarrollo de las competencias en los estudiantes de primer grado de la Institución Educativa Centro Social Don Bosco, reconociéndose la falta de estrategias para lograr inclusión en las aulas. Por tal motivo, esta investigación buscó construir estrategias que ayuden al quehacer educativo de los docentes y fortalezcan las competencias lecto- escritoras en aulas inclusivas, con el fin de establecer un aprendizaje significativo en las esferas cognitivas y afectivas de los estudiantes, favoreciendo sus procesos y convirtiéndose en un instrumento pedagógico de apoyo en las prácticas educativas. La investigación se abordó desde el paradigma socio crítico, utilizando un enfoque investigativo cualitativo y hace uso del método descriptivo. De acuerdo con el proceso metodológico desarrollado, se incluyeron diversas técnicas tales como el análisis documental, el cuestionario, la encuesta y la entrevista.     This research focuses on how the emotions experienced by the language teacher affect their teaching-learning processes when operating in hybrid environments, for which it sought to understand the emotions that are generated in 9 language teachers from Preschool to Fifth grade of the Boston International School located in the city of Barranquilla, Atlántico. The research was carried out from the complementary paradigm, using a descriptive approach and a nonexperimental design. From this, the techniques and instruments used for data collection and results are non-participant observation of language classes, a 5-question questionnaire and, therefore, a documentary analysis was carried out in which different findings were derived. about the factors that influence the emotions of teachers in the development of their teaching process. The results obtained from the techniques and instruments used show that most of the teachers relate the emotions concept, however, within the classroom it is necessary that they use it to successfully guide their emotions and those of their students. students. Likewise, through the documentary analysis and the information collected in the observation, different factors that affect the emotions of the teachers during their classes were evidencedLa presente investigación se centra en cómo inciden las emociones que experimenta el docente de lenguaje en sus procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje al desenvolverse en entornos híbridos, por lo cual buscó comprender las emociones que se generan en 9 docentes de lenguaje desde el grado de Transición hasta Quinto de Primaria del Colegio Boston International School ubicado en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Atlántico. La investigación se llevó a cabo desde el paradigma complementario, utilizando un enfoque descriptivo y un diseño no experimental. A partir de esto las técnicas e instrumentos utilizadas para la recolección de datos y resultados son: la observación no participante de las clases de lenguaje, un cuestionario de 5 preguntas y, por consiguiente, se realizó un análisis documental en el que se derivaron distintos hallazgos importantes en torno a los factores que influyen en las emociones de los docentes en el desarrollo de su proceso de enseñanza. Los resultados obtenidos a partir de las técnicas e instrumentos utilizadas muestran que la mayoría de las docentes relacionan el concepto de emociones, sin embargo, dentro del aula de clases se hace necesario que lo emplee para guiar con éxito sus emociones y las de sus estudiantes.
