No full text
The Wonders Beyond Thule by Antonius Diogenes uniquely combines a range of themes, including aspects of a love story, fantastic journeys, and Pythagorean philosophy. The author reassembles this work, which has only been preserved through papyrus fragments as well as later authors’ accounts, into a new edition that offers detailed philological and interpretive commentary on all of the surviving descriptions and fragments

Links Between Antonius Diogenes and Petronius

No full text
In this paper I look at the different possible relationships between these two texts: that Antonius Diogenes may be aware of and use the Satyrica of Petronius, that Petronius may use Antonius Diogenes, and that the two texts may be separately influenced by a common Milesian-style source. These hypotheses and their consequences are weighed and examined: all remain possibilities and may be consistent with chronology and relationships to other texts.Ewen Bowie is E.P.Warren Praelector in Classics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Professor of Classical Languages and Literature in the University of Oxford. Antonius Andreae and Classical Culture

XIV.Tomàs and Joaquim Carreras stated (1943) that either the Scriptum super Metaphysicam Aristotelis was not genuinely by Antonius Andreae († ca. 1333), or it was subjected to interpolations because its author demonstrates knowledge of classical culture and a mentality characteristic of the fifteenth century. Experts currently consider this work to be genuinely by Andreae; but could it also have been subjected to interpolations? Only a detailed examination of the manuscript and printed tradition will, in the future, allow this question to be answered definitively. For the moment, this article analyses the knowledge of classical culture demonstrated in this work, and concludes that it is compatible with the knowledge available to an author from the beginning of the fourteenth century

The study of coral diseases, coral pathogens, and the effects of diseases on tropical and subtropical coral reefs are all current, high-profile research areas. This interest has grown steadily since the first report of a coral disease in 1973. The author of this report was Arnfried Antonius and the publication was an abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting of the Association of Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean, or AMLC (then known as the Association of Island Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean). Since Antonius’ pioneering communication he continued working on coral diseases on reefs throughout the world, often documenting the first observation of a novel pathology in a novel location. Each of the coral diseases Antonius first described, in particular black band disease, is the subject of current and ongoing investigations addressing pathogens, etiology, and their effects on coral reefs. Many of the points and observations he made in his early papers are highly relevant to research today. This paper reviews aspects of Antonius’ early work, highlighting contributions he made that include the first in situ experimental studies aimed at discerning coral epizootiology and the first quantitative assessments of the role of environmental factors in coral disease.

The life and work of the Slovene Jesuit, Marcus Antonius Kappus (1657 -1717) who, three centuries ago, worked as a missionary in Sonora, north-west Mexico, has, in recent years, been the subject of several short studies in Slovenia. In this journal, Professor Janez Stanonik has, so far, published five letters which Kappus sent home to his relatives and friends, and one letter which he sent to hi s friend in Vienna, as well as a study on the collection of poems (276 chronograms) in Latin, which Kappus published in Mexico City, in 1708, entitled IHS. Enthusiasmus sive solemnes ludi poetici. Prompted by the above publications, the author of this paper spent a month in Sonora while journeying in Mexico in 1991. In Archivo General de la Nación (the general Mexican archives) in Mexico City, he happened to find another letter written by Marcus Antonius Kappus

This article wants to look at the understanding of the Basic Ecclesiastical Community (KBG) in the parish of St. Antonius Kali. The author's interest in discussing this theme is because the KBG style of life has existed since the First Congregation (Acts 2 & 4). This style has been revived since the 1950s in Brazil, FABC 1990, SAGKI 2000 and specifically the Manado Diocesan Synod 2018. The problem studied is how the understanding and practice of KBG in the parish of St. Antonius Kali, Manado Diocese. In the explanation, the KBG theory is discussed, then the author uses qualitative-phenomenological research methods with observation and interview techniques. The field findings were analyzed using KBG theory. The author found that the KBG in Kali is known as the spiritual area. In practice, the spiritual area has the characteristics of KBG: local church base, local community base, lay empowerment base, apostolic base, transformative pastoral care base. The KBG aims to revive evangelical values so that they are manifested in life. One of the methods offered is FGD (Focus Group Discussion) to involve community participation. Dalam prakteknya wilayah rohani memliki ciri-ciri KBG: basis gereja setempat, basis masyarakat setempat, basis pemberdayaan umat awam, basis kerasulan, basis reksa pastoral transformatif. KBG bertujuan menghidupkan nilai-nilai injili agar terejawantahkan dalam hidup. Salah satu cara yang ditawarkan yakni FGD (Focus Group Discussion) untuk melibatkan partisipasi umat.
