Linda Maria Thompson : Emigrant Memoir
No full textMay 27 2019 - September 6 2019Emigrant Memoir is the continuation of an ongoing investigation of the visualization of the migrant experience past and present, the collective and the personal. Thompson is a Swedish-American photographer based in Härnösand, Sweden. Her work explores questions surrounding transience and impermanence on both a personal and political scale.Thompson uses her unique perspective—channeling her roles as both a native of an immigrant to Sweden—in her approach to issues surrounding migration. Emigrant Memoir includes analog, digital, and experimental film processes to explore migration through the documentary image. Thompson says, “Emigrant Memoir is a series of meditations on and through migration spanning personal and collective migration stories in both the United States and Sweden. We still have our hearts in two places at once and are still negotiating the in-between, looking forward and backward at the same time.”Thompson holds a BA in photojournalism from the University of Montana and an MA in photojournalism from Mid Sweden University. She was a staff photographer at the Missoulian. She is currently an instructor of photography at Mid Sweden University. Her photographs have been published and exhibited internationally. Her debut monograph In Place of Memory (Teg Publishing 2016), and Emigrant Memoir (self-published 2019) have both been exhibited at the Sune Jonsson Centre for Documentary Photography at the Västerbottens Museum. Emigrant Memoir was made possible with financial support by the Swedish Authors Fund, Helge Ax:son Jonsson Foundation, Region Västernorrland, and Högsjö Folklore Society.</p

No full textTCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Curso de Ciências Sociais.O presente artigo procura realizar uma análise da atividade teórico-prática que desenvolvemos no estágio supervisionado em Ciências Sociais, realizada no ano de 2012, com fundamento na categoria “experiência” elaborada pelo historiador marxista inglês Edward Palmer Thompson. Tal análise busca apoio também na proposta pedagógica de Demerval Saviani. Uma pedagogia que incorpora elementos teóricos que tratam sobre o processo de ensino e aprendizagem presente na produção intelectual de Vygotsky e no método dialético de construção do conhecimento. Com base na categoria experiência de Thompson, pudemos compreender o estágio como um momento de pensar e repensar as ações dos sujeitos envolvidos no processo educacional e as práticas institucionais.This article tries to conduct an analysis of the theoretical and practical activity that developed in supervised training in Social Sciences, held in the year 2012, based on the category "experience" prepared by the English Marxist historian Edward Palmer Thompson. Such analysis also seeks support in pedagogical proposal Demerval Saviani. A pedagogy that incorporates theoretical elements that deal with the process of teaching and learning in this intellectual production of Vygotsky and the dialectical method of knowledge construction. Based on the category Thompson experience, we understand the stage as a time to think and rethink the actions of those involved in the educational process and institutional practices

Classe, cultura e experiência: E.P. Thompson e o culturalismo nas ciências sociais

Programa de Pós-graduação em Sociologia PolíticaA proposta da pesquisa é indicar as conseqüências teóricas presentes nas concepções de classe, cultura e experiência em E. P. Thompson por meio de critérios ontológicos do objeto de estudo da Sociologia e do instrumental teórico do Realismo Crítico. Dessa forma, identificamos as possibilidades de um intercâmbio/diálogo entre as categorias de cultura e experiência no âmbito da Antropologia, da Sociologia e da História. Destacamos nesse processo a categoria cultura em relação #àquilo que não é cultura#, i.e., relacionando as condições materiais de existência com as perspectivas de transformação social fundadas na luta, consciência e experiência de classe. Para tanto, analisamos o desenvolvimento teórico de algumas proposições do culturalismo e sua inserção no debate sobre o ser social, bem como o conceito de cultura para Thompson. Abrimos assim a possibilidade do estudo científico do ser social, relacionando as implicações teóricas de sua obra com o modelo transformacional de sociedade delimitado pelo Realismo Crítico de Roy Bhaskar Para contextualizar os debates, sistematizamos as críticas de Thompson às tendências funcionalistas das Ciências Sociais e discutimos alguns críticos de sua obra. Como conclusão, apontamos as contribuições de Thompson ao amplo debate das Ciências Sociais no campo dos estudos sobre cultura e sociedade, sem perder de vista ou abandonar os referenciais marxistas de sua obra no intuito de afastá-lo da corrente culturalista pósmoderna a que é, por vezes, impropriamente vinculado. The aim of this research is to indicate the theoretical consequences within the categories of class, culture and experience in E. P. Thompson by relating them with the ontological criteria of sociology#s subject of study and the achievements of Critical Realism theory. Doing that we hope to help to identify the possibilities of an exchange/dialog between the categories of culture and experience within Anthropology, Sociology and History

No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
