IB textbook development for non-English speakers in a European late comer country – the case of Hungary
No full textAbstract: From time to time the purview of international business (IB) is on the academic agenda. Seminal papers and books have been published on IB as a research field. Less room has been devoted to teaching and textbook issues. This paper addresses this aspect, using a three 3 year textbook development work on a Hungarian language textbook. A motive for the descriptive paper is that the main challenge of this development was the assignment of the purview of IB as a teaching field. A comparison of six IB textbooks was the starting point for that in the paper, this overview, the institutional context and the process of development are discussed. The main conclusion is that answering the question ‘what is international business’ is a complicated but unavoidable first phase of developing a non-English textbook for several reasons

No full textMethane-oxidizing microorganisms perform an important role in reducing emissions of the greenhouse gas methane to the atmosphere. To date, known bacterial methanotrophs belong to the Proteobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, and NC10 phyla. Within the Proteobacteria phylum, they can be divided into type Ia, type Ib, and type II methanotrophs. Type Ia and type II are well represented by isolates. Contrastingly, the vast majority of type Ib methanotrophs have not been able to be cultivated so far. Here, we compared the distributions of type Ib lineages in different environments. Whereas the cultivated type Ib methanotrophs (Methylococcus and Methylocaldum) are found in landfill and upland soils, lineages that are not represented by isolates are mostly dominant in freshwater environments, such as paddy fields and lake sediments. Thus, we observed a clear niche differentiation within type Ib methanotrophs. Our subsequent isolation attempts resulted in obtaining a pure culture of a novel type Ib methanotroph, tentatively named “Methylotetracoccus oryzae” C50C1. Strain C50C1 was further characterized to be an obligate methanotroph, containing C_(16:1)ω9c as the major membrane phospholipid fatty acid, which has not been found in other methanotrophs. Genome analysis of strain C50C1 showed the presence of two pmoCAB operon copies and XoxF5-type methanol dehydrogenase in addition to MxaFI. The genome also contained genes involved in nitrogen and sulfur cycling, but it remains to be demonstrated if and how these help this type Ib methanotroph to adapt to fluctuating environmental conditions in freshwater ecosystems

No full textEarly Ibāḍī Theology presents the critical edition of six Arabic theological texts recently discovered in two manuscripts in Mzāb in Algeria dating from the middle of the 8th century. The texts were sent by their author, the prominent Kūfan Ibāḍī kalām theologian ?Abd Allāh b. Yazīd al-Fazārī to North Africa where he had a large following in the Ibāḍī community later known as the Nukkār. They constitute the earliest extant body of Muslim kalām theology and are vital for the study of the initial development of rational theology in Islam. The sophisticated treatment of the divine attributes in these texts indicates that this subject developed considerably earlier in Islamic theology than previously accepted in modern scholarship

television fiction. First, there is a growing literature on using these media within
conventional pedagogical situations (Thompson, 2007). This includes examining
their potential as tools that teachers use to raise awareness of social and political
issues and enable students to imagine a range of experiences and possibilities. It
also incorporates the development of critical media literacy, whereby students learn
to recognize the way ideas are constructed, reflected and reproduced. Guy, for
example, perceives the ‘corrosive and dehumanizing messages of popular culture’
(2007:19) and explores the importance of classroom practices that develop
frameworks for critique. Coming, in contrast, from a Jungian perspective, Dirkx
examines the significance of the emotions in transformative learning and notes how
this ‘may be fostered through the selective use of fiction, poetry and movies’
(2006:23)
A novel method to allow noninvasive, longitudinal imaging of the murine immune system in vivo
No full textIn vivo imaging has revolutionized understanding of the spatiotemporal complexity that subserves the generation of successful effector and regulatory immune responses. Until now, invasive surgery has been required for microscopic access to lymph nodes (LNs), making repeated imaging of the same animal impractical and potentially affecting lymphocyte behavior. To allow longitudinal in vivo imaging, we conceived the novel approach of transplanting LNs into
the mouse ear pinna. Transplanted LNs maintain the structural and cellular organization of conventional secondary lymphoid organs. They participate in lymphocyte
recirculation and exhibit the capacity to receive and respond to local antigenic challenge. The same LN could be repeatedly imaged through time without the requirement for surgical exposure, and the dynamic behavior of the cells within the transplanted LN could be characterized. Crucially, the use of blood vessels as fiducial markers also allowed precise re-registration of the same regions for
longitudinal imaging. Thus, we provide the first demonstration of a method for repeated, noninvasive, in vivo imaging of lymphocyte behavior

Efficacy and safety of empagliflozin in glycogen storage disease type Ib: Data from an international questionnaire
No full textPurpose: This paper aims to report collective information on safety and efficacy of empagliflozin drug repurposing in individuals with glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib). Methods: This is an international retrospective questionnaire study on the safety and efficacy of empagliflozin use for management of neutropenia/neutrophil dysfunction in patients with GSD Ib, conducted among the respective health care providers from 24 countries across the globe. Results: Clinical data from 112 individuals with GSD Ib were evaluated, representing a total of 94 treatment years. The median age at start of empagliflozin treatment was 10.5 years (range = 0-38 years). Empagliflozin showed positive effects on all neutrophil dysfunction–related symptoms, including oral and urogenital mucosal lesions, recurrent infections, skin abscesses, inflammatory bowel disease, and anemia. Before initiating empagliflozin, most patients with GSD Ib were on G-CSF (94/112; 84%). At the time of the survey, 49 of 89 (55%) patients previously treated with G-CSF had completely stopped G-CSF, and another 15 (17%) were able to reduce the dose. The most common adverse event during empagliflozin treatment was hypoglycemia, occurring in 18% of individuals. Conclusion: Empagliflozin has a favorable effect on neutropenia/neutrophil dysfunction–related symptoms and safety profile in individuals with GSD Ib. © 2022 The Author
A necessary fiction: The ritualisation of stakeholder practices in New Zealand cinema
No full textThis thesis argues that stability of the concept ‘national cinema’ is located in the discursive positioning of individual films in such a way that they are connected to a national ‘common ground’, one which is ritually accessed via engagement with media such as cinema. This positioning, however, is not quantifiable and may not be identified as arising from any particular production practice, dimension of popularity, theme, style, characteristic of production personnel, and so on. By synthesising the work of several theorists and applying this synthesis to a selection of films, a framework of ideas (around the ritualised ‘flagging’ of the national via the expression of stakeholder interests) is applied to cinema in New Zealand. In particular, an ideoscape is ultimately mapped as a result of applying this framework of ideas. The normative assumptions of national cinema are examined in this way and found to be lacking despite the weight that the term ‘national cinema’ continues to have

Based on the research conducted by the author, the author can conclude that this study is entitled Analysis of the Mechanism of Calculation of Profit Sharing for Mudharabah Contracts on TaaT iB Savings Products at BPRS Daya Artha Mentari KC Gempol according to an Islamic Economics review. TaaT iB Savings is a savings product with the mudharabah principle. Therefore, the authors are interested in further researching how exactly the iB TaaT Savings is, and how the function of the Education Savings is for both the bank and the customer and how the Islamic economy reviews the iB TaaT Savings
