UNIVERSAL PRAGMATICS: MEMPERTIMBANGKAN HABERMAS DALAM PENELITIAN LINGUISTIK
Abstract: The aim of this writing was to describe the Habermas theoretical dimension named the universal pragmatics and its contribution in linguistic-especially, critical linguistic-research. In this research, this writer used the library research concerning to the Habermas philosophical and critical ideas. The result showed that, firstly, the universal pragmatics was part of Frankfurt School critical theory which influenced almost all of Habermas social and philosophical thinking. Secondly, the universal pragmatics was the new epistemological basis of pragmatics as science. And thirdly, Habermas tried to enlarging the pragmatics as not the only historical-hermeneutics, but also critical-reflective science. Abstrak: Tulisan ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan dimensi teoretis teori Pragmatik Universal yang dikembangkan oleh Habermas dan sumbangan yang diberikannya bagi penelitian linguistik terutama linguistik kritis. Dalam mewujudkan tujuan tersebut, penulis mengkaji sejumlah literatur yang terkait dengan ide pemikiran filosofis dan pemikiran kritis dari Habermas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan tiga hal. Pertama, teori pragmatik universal merupakan bagian dari Teori Kritis yang dikembangkan Mazhab Frankfurt yang mempengaruhi hampir seluruh pemikiran sosial dan filsafat dari Habermas. Kedua, teori pragmatik universal merupakan usaha Habermas untuk memberikan dasar epistemologis dari disiplin pragmatik sebagai sebuah ilmu. Ketiga, melalui teori pragmatik universal ini, Habermas mencoba mengembangkan pragmatik tidak lagi sebagai ilmu yang semata-mata bersifat historis-hermeneutis, melainkan juga bersifat kritis-emansipatoris. Dimensi Pragma-Dialektis Fatwa
This study aimed to describe Dimension of Pragma-Dialectics Fatwa, especially in deciding the first month of Hijriah, such as Ramadhan, Syawal and Zulhijjah. The fatwa came from three Islamic religion institutions in Indonesia including Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama and Indonesian Council of Ulama. Identity and Piety: Critical Discourse Analysis on Indonesian Ulema Council’s Fatwa about The Law Using Non-Moslim Religious Attributes
In December 2016, shortly after the Action to Defend Islam 212 was held, the Indonesian Ulema Council published a fatwa on the Law Using Non-Muslim Religious Attributes. This fatwa reaped controversy because it was followed by sweeping action by a number of mass organizations against the Christmas attribute. Since this fatwa caused controversy, this study sought to examine it with a critical discourse analysis approach. This study covers three dimensions of the fatwa: the textual dimension, the dimension of discursive practice, and the dimensions of social practice. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, this study has three findings. First, linguistic analysis of this fatwa showed that the fatwa is an ideological text. Furthermore, this fatwa has intertextuality with other texts, namely the opinions of previous ulemas, which also prohibit the use of religious attributes of non-Muslims. Second, as a discursive practice, this fatwa affirms the view of several religious mass organizations that not only forbid wearing religious attributes of non-Muslims but also at the same time justified their attitude in sweeping against the religious attributes of non-Muslims, for example, Islamic Front Defense (FPI) and Klaten Islamic Paramilitaries (LAKIK). Third, situationally and institutionally, this fatwa is possible to be issued not only because of the encouragement of several mass organizations that consider that using religious attributes of non-Muslims is haram but also because of the influence of consolidation of these mass organizations, which rich their peak level after the series of Action to Defend Islam. Lastly, a value system that views identity as permanent and unchanging in Indonesian Muslim society is still very dominant, so it is also determining the issuance of this fatwa. Pada bulan Desember 2016, tak lama setelah Aksi Bela Islam 212 digelar, Majelis Ulama Indonesia menerbitkan fatwa tentang Hukum Penggunaan Atribut Keagamaan Non-Muslim. Fatwa ini menuai kontroversi karena disusul aksi sapu bersih sejumlah ormas yang menentang atribut Natal. Karena fatwa ini menimbulkan kontroversi, maka penelitian ini berupaya mengkajinya dengan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis. Kajian ini mencakup tiga dimensi fatwa: dimensi tekstual, dimensi praktik kewacanaan, dan dimensi praktik sosial. Berdasarkan analisis yang telah dilakukan, penelitian ini mempunyai tiga temuan. Pertama, analisis kebahasaan fatwa ini menunjukkan bahwa fatwa tersebut merupakan teks ideologis. Lebih lanjut, fatwa ini memiliki intertekstualitas dengan nash lain, yaitu pendapat para ulama terdahulu yang juga melarang penggunaan atribut agama non-Muslim. Kedua, sebagai praktik diskursif, fatwa ini mengafirmasi pandangan beberapa ormas keagamaan yang tidak hanya melarang pemakaian atribut keagamaan non-Muslim namun sekaligus mem sikapnya dalam melakukan penyisiran terhadap atribut keagamaan non-Muslim, mislanya Front Pembela Islam (FPI) dan Laskar Islam Klaten (LAKIK). Ketiga, secara situasional dan institusional, fatwa ini dimungkinkan dikeluarkan bukan hanya karena dorongan dari beberapa ormas yang menganggap penggunaan atribut keagamaan non-Muslim haram, namun juga karena pengaruh konsolidasi ormas-ormas tersebut, yang besar di mana puncaknya setelah rangkaian Aksi Bela Islam. Terakhir, sistem nilai yang memandang identitas sebagai sesuatu yang permanen dan tidak berubah dalam masyarakat Islam Indonesia masih sangat dominan sehingga ikut menentukan dikeluarkannya fatwa ini.

Ahok\u27s controversial statements on the Thousand Islands seem not only led to massive and repeated demonstrations, but also linguistic debates in the courtroom. This study aims to examine the arguments of linguists who give statements in the courtroom in response to Ahok\u27s statement. As a qualitative study using discourse analysis as a method of analysis, this study uses a critical argumentation approach developed by Walton (2002 and 2006) to examine how the argument was constructed and evaluate the quality of the argument. The analysis in this study indicates that the opinion of linguists presented by public prosecutors is often inconsistent and not based on adequate linguistic evidence, not only inconsistent with other expert statements, but also with his own statement as a scientist. Conversely, the linguist presented by Ahok\u27s counsel is more consistent and more able to present linguistic evidence more adequately
Khilâfah Discourse on Youtube: Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia Scholars’ Perspective
PurposeThis study aimed to reveal how Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI)’s scholars, Ismail Yusnto, Felix Siuw, dan Fatih Karim used Youtube as ideological battle. It focused on discussing how texts experienced bias in representing khilâfah and how HTI ustaz used Youtube as a means to scroll their ideology. MethodThe study was qualitative research that used the verbal data of khilâfah discourse uploaded on Youtube as the primary source. Collecting the data, the researchers observed the discursivity of khilâfah as the main theme of discourse presented by HTI’s scholars on their preaching in Youtube. In data analysis, the study applied Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. Results/FindingsThe study showed that the HTI’s scholars exploited the khilâfah discourse through intellectual and well-packaged ways, one of which was through interesting and innovative videos uploaded on Youtube. The concept of khilâfah conveyed massively by the HTI’s scholars, especially on Youtube led to a single understanding of the khilâfah using HTI’s perspective. ConclusionThere were discourses about the governmental system that can be implemented in a country; and khilâfah was one of alternative system to apply. Khilâfah was not a single system by which a country was said to be Islamic one because Islam does not specifically regulate the government system. Therefore, it is important for the government to invite moderate scholars to enliven the khilâfah discourse to present more comprehensive one.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
