Gogol in Yuriy Lutsky's interpretation
Gogol is the key subject in Yuriy Lutsky's creative heritage. Yuriy Lutsky's work Between Gogol and Shevchenko was translated an d published in Ukrai e with a huge delay, almost 30 years after its first English publication in 1971 , yet one can hardly overestimate its importance for studying the Ukrainian intellectual history relating to the period of Yuriy Lutsky's linguistic and cultural development. The main problem in Lutsky's book is Gogol's linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identification. Under conditions of Ukraine's colonial dependence on Russia, the identity choice by Gogol, a great author in the verba l art , goes far beyond an individual issue and acquires much broader socio-cultura l and even political features.Тема Гоголя належить до провідних у творчому доробку Юрія Луцького. Гоголь увійшов до кола наукових інтересів ученого на певному етапі його творчого шляху, але відтоді гостре зацікавлення особистістю й творчістю великого земляка не залишало Юрія Остаповича до останніх днів життя

Nd-doped polarization maintaining all-fiber laser with dissipative soliton resonance mode-locking at 905 nm

Publisher Copyright: © 1983-2012 IEEE.Moving the fiber laser emission to the region below one micron may provide a cheaper, more compact and robust alternatives to the existing solid state lasers. Here, for the first time we report a neodymium mode-locked fiber laser emitting at 905 nm in the all-fiber polarization maintaining configuration. We obtain a self-starting pulse generation in nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) cavity configuration. To suppress a dominant emission at 1064 nm corresponding to a 4-level laser scheme, we use an active fiber - 920/1064 division multiplexer - active fiber sandwich-like sequence in the NALM loop. A rectangular shape dissipative soliton had nJ energy, 30 pm spectral width and 80 ÷ 430 ps width linearly depending on the pump power. Excellent agreement with numerical simulation allowed us to recover pulse shape and width for the pulses out of autocorrelation window.Peer reviewe
To the memory of Yuriy Tokarev (19.08.1943–14.01.2018)
14 January, 2018 the outstanding scientist, D. Sc. (Biol.), Professor, assistant editor of “Marine Biological Journal” Yuriy Tokarev passed away. He developed new approaches to the assessment and rational use of the biological resources of the World Ocean. He was the author of more than 200 publications, including 8 monographs.14 января 2018 г. трагически оборвалась жизнь научного руководителя Института морских биологических исследований имени А. О. Ковалевского РАН, лауреата Государственной премии Украины в области науки и техники, заслуженного деятеля науки и техники Республики Крым, доктора биологических наук, профессора, заведующего отделом биофизической экологии Токарева Юрия Николаевича
«Perversion» by Yuriy Andrukhovych in Transcultural Dimension
У статті зроблено спробу інтерпретувати роман Ю. Андруховича «Перверзія» в транскультурному вимірі. У загальних рисах схарактеризовано феномен транскультури. Доведено, що головний герой роману – транс-культурна особистість. Визначено, що місія Перфецького – протиставити західноєвропейському прин¬ципу універсалізму новий принцип міжкультурної комунікації – транскультурації. The author makes an attempt to re-interpretation of the novel by Yuriy Andrukhovych «Perversion». It is proved that the novel can and should be viewed in the context of the new paradigms of the humanities – transculture. Outlines the general features of transcultural paradigm. It is argued that the hero of the novel Stanislav Perfetsky has all the characteristics of transcultural subject. It is argued that he performs the author's task of opposition Western European cultural universa¬lism to the new principle of intercultural communication, which implements in their creative acts of transculturation. It reveals the opposition carnival as the personification of transcultural dimension of reality to carnival-werewolf, demon hoax
Yuriy Izdryk and the Stanislav phenomenon : postmodernists or "postmodernized" avant-garde?
The writers of the Stanislav Phenomenon according to a lot of Ukrainian literary scholars are the most representative branch of the Ukrainian postmodernism. This text tries to answer the question that members of this group are really postmodernists or rather they create some kind of the modern avant-garde. The author presents a story of the beginning of the Ukrainian postmodernism and the idea of the "postmodernized modernism" invented by Włodzimierz Bolecki. Based especially on the three novels of Yuriy Izdryk, one of the representative of the Stanislav Phenomenon, author tries to prove that the Ukrainian postmodernism does not exist but really is the "postmodernized" avant-garde
The Ukrainian Postmodernist Novel: Realities and Critics (on the Instance of «Perversion» Novel by Yuriy Andrukhovych)
У статті розглядаються особливості поетики такого нового для української літератури жанрового утворення, як постмодерністський нелінійний роман. Робиться висновок, що роман Ю. Андруховича «Перверзія» не може бути названий постмодерністським нелінійним текстом через те, що він ще не переорієнтований з ідеї «твору» на ідею «тексту», який можна продукувати.The article considers the peculiarities of poetics of such a new Ukrainian literature genre formation as a postmodernistic unlineal novel. The author concludes that «Perversion» novel by Yuriy Andrukhovych cannot be defined as a postmodernist unlineal text because it has not been yet re-oriented from the idea of the «literary work» to the idea of the «text», which can be produced
Céline en Russie. La traduction de Voyage au bout de la nuit par Yuriy Korneev
Voyage au bout de la nuit by Yuriy KornevTranslation into a foreign language of the work of Louis-Ferdinand Céline, the author known as really difficult to translate, is always considered as a milestone in the evolution of contemporary translation. In our article, the question we ask is how foreign translators achieve to render in other languages this Celinian French so vivid, violent, and horrifying by its rudeness and vulgarity. Searching an answer to this question, we have tried, using the example of the Russian translation of Céline’s first novel Journey to the End of the Night performed by Yuriy Korneev, to describe the obstacle course that a translator carries out in order to make an adaptation of the original text. Working over Céline’s masterpiece, a translator begins his work by studying the original style of the author in order to understand the nature of work on the language and catch on the effect muchsought by Céline. The restitution of the orality effect is a fundamental part of the stylistic work gone by the translator. Thus, in our article we draw on the major difficulties of translation that are: the “little music” of Céline formed on the basis of the choice of words to play on phonemes, the sounds and the rhythm of the sentence and onomatopoeia; the semantic matching between the two languages, using the same images and ideas association; transposition of regional and popular accents; translation of slang, scatological and offensive terms; spatial and temporal dissimilarities with the culture of today; plays on words and allusions, etc… Thus the translator working on a Céline’s novel is constantly coping with many difficulties that are sometimes really impossible to overcome, so that the translation is “swaying,” becoming sometimes too soft and neutral, sometimes too brutal and repugnant.Voyage au bout de la nuit by Yuriy KornevTranslation into a foreign language of the work of Louis-Ferdinand Céline, the author known as really difficult to translate, is always considered as a milestone in the evolution of contemporary translation.
