Investigating the role of radixin in modulation of stereocilia length and stiffness
Mammalian hearing depends on deflection of stereocilia on the sensory outer hair cells of the inner ear. Previous data indicate that the stiffness of outer hair cell stereocilia are actively regulated. The molecular mechanism that regulate the deflection of stereocilia are presently less known. The aim of the study is to investigate the mechanistic pathway that underlie the stiffness modulation of outer hair cell stereocilia. Our hypothesis is that the membrane-cytoskeleton linker protein radixin, which is present at high concentration in stereocilia, could contribute to stiffness regulation. To test this hypothesis, we use the radixin blocker DX-52-1 which binds strongly and specifically to radixin. Time-resolved confocal imaging was used to visualize the sound-evoked motion of stereocilia in a semi-intact preparation of the guinea pig temporal bone. Cochlear microphonic potentials were also measured, using electrodes positioned in scala media. We found that the DX-52-1 inhibitor leads to an increase in stereocilia movements and decline in the amplitude of the cochlear microphonic potential. However, DX-52-1 caused a paradoxical increase in electromotility. These results suggest that radixin has a functionally important regulatory role in the mature inner ear.</p

Transmisi Memori dan Wacana Rekonsiliasi dalam Cerpen “Perempuan Sinting Di Dapur” Karya Ugoran Prasad: Kajian Postmemory
This study aims to explain the structure of memory transmission in the short story "Perempuan Sinting di Dapur" by Ugoran Prasad and the reconciliation discourse offered by the author. Overall, this short story raised the 1965 Event in Indonesia. Ugoran Prasad tried to discuss the impact caused by the incident, both in terms of the perpetrators and victims. The theory used is the postmemory theory developed by Marianne Hirsch. The results of this study indicate that the structure of memory transmission in short stories is mediated by behavior and narratives, both from the perspective of victims and perpetrators. Both of these parties turned out to be equally save the deep trauma that was carried throughout his life. Then, through this short story, Ugoran Prasad presented a discourse of reconciliation to those who had a traumatic impact on the 1965 event, both generations who were traumatized and post-generation. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan struktur transmisi memori dalam cerpen “Perempuan Sinting di Dapur” karya Ugoran Prasad dan wacana rekonsiliasi yang ditawarkan oleh penulis. Secara keseluruhan, cerpen ini mengangkat Peristiwa 1965 di Indonesia. Ugoran Prasad berusaha membahas mengenai dampak yang ditimbulkan dari peristiwa itu, baik dari segi pelaku maupun korban. Adapun teori yang digunakan adalah teori postmemory yang dikembangkan oleh Marianne Hirsch. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa struktur transmisi memori dalam cerpen dimediasi oleh perilaku dan narasi atau cerita, baik dari perspektif korban maupun pelaku. Kedua pihak ini ternyata sama-sama menyimpan trauma mendalam yang dibawa seumur hidupnya. Kemudian, melalui cerpen ini Ugoran Prasad menghadirkan wacana rekonsiliasi kepada pihak-pihak yang berdampak trauma akan Peristiwa 1965, baik generasi yang mengalami trauma maupun post-generatio

A genetic tango attack against the David–Prasad RFID ultra-lightweight authentication protocol
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a powerful technology that enables wireless information storage and control in an economical way. These properties have generated a wide range of applications in different areas. Due to economic and technological constrains, RFID devices are seriously limited, having small or even tiny computational capabilities. This issue is particularly challenging from the security point of view. Security protocols in RFID environments have to deal with strong computational limitations, and classical protocols cannot be used in this context. There have been several attempts to overcome these limitations in the form of new lightweight security protocols designed to be used in very constrained (sometimes called ultra-lightweight) RFID environments. One of these proposals is the David–Prasad ultra-lightweight authentication protocol. This protocol was successfully attacked using a cryptanalysis technique named Tango attack. The capacity of the attack depends on a set of boolean approximations. In this paper, we present an enhanced version of the Tango attack, named Genetic Tango attack, that uses Genetic Programming to design those approximations, easing the generation of automatic cryptanalysis and improving its power compared to a manually designed attack. RF Information Harvesting for Medium Access in Event-driven Batteryless Sensing
We present radio-frequency (RF) information harvesting, a chan-nel sensing technique that takes advantage of the energy in the wireless medium to detect channel activity at essentially no en-ergy cost. RF information harvesting is essential for event-driven wireless sensing applications using battery-less devices that har-vest tiny amounts of energy from impromptu events, such as op-erating a switch, and then transmit the event notification to a one-hop gateway. As multiple such devices may concurrently de-tect events, coordinating access to the channel is key. RF infor-mation harvesting allows devices to break the symmetry between concurrently-transmitting devices based on the harvested energy from the ongoing transmissions. To demonstrate the benefits of RF information harvesting, we integrate it in a tailor-made ultra low-power hardware MAC protocol we call Radio Frequency-Distance Packet Queuing (RF-DiPaQ). We build a hardware/software proto-type of RF-DiPaQ and use an established Markov framework to study its performance at scale. Comparing RF-DiPaQ against sta-ple contention-based MAC protocols, we show that it outperforms pure Aloha and 1-CSMA by factors of 3.55 and 1.21 respectively in throughput, while it saturates at more than double the offered load compared to 1-CSMA. Nonlinear hyperbolic waves in multidimensions
The propagation of curved, nonlinear wavefronts and shock fronts are very complex phenomena. Since the 1993 publication of his work Propagation of a Curved Shock and Nonlinear Ray Theory, author Phoolan Prasad and his research group have made significant advances in the underlying theory of these phenomena. This volume presents their results and provides a self-contained account and gradual development of mathematical methods for studying successive positions of these fronts.Nonlinear Hyperbolic Waves in Multidimensions includes all introductory material on nonlinear hyperbolic waves and the theory of shock waves. The author derives the ray theory for a nonlinear wavefront, discusses kink phenomena, and develops a new theory for plane and curved shock propagation.
