    El proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje implica la lectura de textos para construir conocimientos. En este contexto, se elige un determinado objetivo pedagógico para orientar la lectura y la forma de interactuar con los textos. De alguna manera, esta interacción solía atribuirse a la motivación intrínseca o interna del lector. Sin embargo, la motivación instrumental para aprender una segunda lengua no se consideraba un factor influyente en las tareas de lectura. Objetivo: De ahí que el objetivo de esta investigación es explorar la relación entre la motivación instrumental para aprender y los objetivos de lectura tanto del alumno como de la institución que acoge la actividad lectora. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio de caso cualitativo y se recogieron datos de cuatro cursos pertenecientes a un programa de intercambio estudiantil de español L2 en Chile durante el primer semestre de 2019. Resultados: Los resultados del análisis de Nvivo 12 sugieren que los estudiantes aprenden español por razones prácticas que no coinciden con los contenidos de lectura específicos o complejos asignados en clase por los profesores. Conclusión: El material didáctico debe captar la atención de los estudiantes y ser coherente con su nivel de dominio de la lengua para garantizar un proceso de aprendizaje eficaz.Teaching-learning process involves reading texts to construct knowledge. In this context, a certain pedagogical goal is chosen to guide the reading and the way of interacting with texts. Somehow, this interaction used to be attributed to the intrinsic or internal motivation of the reader. However, instrumental motivation to learn a second language was not considered as an influential factor in reading assignments. Objective: Hence, the aim of this investigation is to explore the relationship between instrumental learning motivation and the reading goals of both the learner and the institution hosting the reading activity. Methodology: A qualitative case study has been applied and data were collected from four courses belonging to a Spanish L2 student exchange program in Chile during the first semester of 2019. Results: The results of Nvivo 12 analysis suggest that students learn Spanish for practical reasons that do not match with specific or complex reading content assigned in class by professors. Conclusion: Didactic material should engage students and be coherent with their language proficiency level to guarantee efficient learning process.O processo de ensino-aprendizagem envolve a leitura de textos a fim de construir conhecimento. Neste contexto, é escolhido um determinado objectivo pedagógico para orientar a leitura e a forma de interagir com os textos. De alguma forma, esta interacção costumava ser atribuída à motivação intrínseca ou interna do leitor. No entanto, a motivação instrumental para aprender uma segunda língua não foi considerada como um factor influente na tarefa de leitura. Objectivo: Neste sentido, o objectivo do estudo é explorar a relação entre a motivação instrumental e os objectivos de leitura tanto do aprendente como da instituição que acolhe a actividade de leitura. Metodologia: É adoptado um método de estudo de caso qualitativo para fornecer uma descrição completa deste contexto de ensino. Foram recolhidos dados de quatro cursos pertencentes a um programa de intercâmbio de estudantes de espanhol como L2 no Chile durante o primeiro semestre de 2019. Os dados foram sistematizados no software Nvivo 12 e o inquérito aos estudantes e grupos focais foram utilizados para analisar a perspectiva dos estudantes, cujos resultados foram contrastados com as declarações dos professores em entrevistas semi-estruturadas. Resultados: Os resultados sugerem que os estudantes aprendem espanhol por razões práticas que não coincidem com conteúdos de leitura específicos ou complexos atribuídos em sala de aula por professores. Neste sentido, a motivação instrumental determina os objectivos de leitura dos alunos e influencia o cumprimento do objectivo institucional, no caso de não corresponderem. Por este motivo, a instituição deve envolver a motivação instrumental na concepção curricular para assegurar um processo de aprendizagem eficaz. Especialmente que existe uma diferença entre o que os estudantes querem aprender e o que os professores acreditam que precisam de aprender. Conclusão: Os materiais de aprendizagem devem atrair a atenção dos aprendentes e ser consistentes com o seu nível de proficiência linguística para assegurar um processo de aprendizagem eficaz

    La multimodalidad en el material didáctico de ELE: una perspectiva práctica

    Ante la ausencia de trabajos previos que abordan los elementos multisemióticos en el material didáctico de los cursos de español como lengua extranjera (ELE), en este trabajo se pretende ofrecer una imagen completa sobre el uso del elemento multimodal en los textos didácticos. En este orden de ideas, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar los sistemas semióticos que conforman los textos de cuatro cursos que se dictan en el contexto de un programa de intercambio estudiantil en la V Región en Chile especializado en la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera. Para lograr este objetivo se adopta un enfoque cualitativo con alcance descriptivo y exploratorio y se realiza un análisis de los artefactos multimodales que conforman 64 textos de cursos de Historia y Literatura. El análisis de materiales se complementa con entrevistas semiestructuradas con los cuatro docentes a cargo de los cursos de ambas disciplinas en donde se profundiza sobre las razones de ausencia o presencia de la multimodalidad en este material. Los datos se interpretan mediante un análisis de contenido realizado en el programa Nvivo 12. Los resultados del análisis muestran una predominancia del sistema semiótico verbal en el material didáctico que se debe a descartarlos por parte del profesorado

    Testing the Anticancer Effect of Matcha Using Zebrafish as an Animal Model

    Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients show the poorest prognosis and survival and the highest metastasis prevalence among all breast cancer subtypes. Matcha (powder of Japanese green tea) has recently been associated with multiple health benefits, and in vitro studies showed the potential effect of matcha in inhibiting cancer development and metastasis. We aimed to determine the safe, non-toxic dose of matcha in zebrafish, and to investigate the anticancer effect of matcha on the metastasis and growth of human TBNC cells using a zebrafish xenograft model. Wild-type AB zebrafish were used to conduct multiple general toxicity assessments, including developmental, neuromuscular, and cardiovascular toxicities. 50 μg/ml and 100 μg/ml were determined as safe, non-toxic concentration of matcha in zebrafish. Afterward, the zebrafish xenograft model was successfully established by injection of MDA-MB-468 and MDA-MB-231 human TNBC cells. The tumor size and metastasis of the injected cancer cells were traced through CM-Dil red fluorescent dye. Exposure to non-toxic doses of matcha, showed a trend toward reduction in tumor size of MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 in a dose-dependent manner. Our results point to a potential dose-dependent anticancer effect of matcha on TNBC tumors; however, more extended observation periods after xenotransplantation are required to confirm the long-term anticancer effect of matcha on tumor growth and metastasis

    Al-Rawiyat (The Storytellers) is a metafictional novel written by Syrian author Maha Hasan in 2014. The text contains two intertwined levels: the first is the inner monologue of a woman who is writing a novel; the second is represented by the stories of the characters she creates and that become themselves storytellers. In this text Maha Hasan explores the art of storytelling through multiple stories and many female characters. Ḥasan’s storytellers often live in parallel and imaginary worlds, in a permanent state of metamorphosis and perpetual reincarnation. The stories they live and narrate represent their last attempt to preserve life in an inhuman time that changes at a spasmodic rhythm and generates simultaneous events with contradictory effects. This novel translates into fiction the rapid changes of the present period, which—as affirmed by Rosi Braidotti in her Metamorphoses—does not truncate the brutality of power relations, but at deeper view, intensifies them to their point of implosion

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan formasi ideologi dalam novel terjemahan Yang Maha Kecil karya Arundhati Roy,serta melihat hubungannya dengan ideologi pengarang dengan menggunakan kajian teori hegemoni yang digagas Antonio Gramsci. Tinjauan teori hegemoni Gramsci dalam penelitian ini melihat praktik hegemoni ideologi dalam Yang Maha Kecil melalui negosiasi ideologi yang dilakukan pengarang sebagai aparatur hegemoni. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif melalui pendekatan deskriptif dan pemahaman arti secara mendalam. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan berupa teridentifikasinya sejumlah ideologi, yaitu ideologi (1) ultraortodoks (2) komunis, (3) anglofilia, (4) rasialisme, dan (5) patriarki. Adapun ideologi yang dinegosiasi ditunjukkan oleh ideologi komunisme dan ultraortodoks. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah adanya pertentangan dalam cara pandang pengarang tentang ideologi komunis dan ultraortodoks yang dinegosiasikan. Dalam hal ini, pengarang melihat bahwa ideologi komunis maupun ideologi ultraortodoks (agama) yang mengajarkan kesetaraan manusia secara sosial maupun di mata Tuhan, ternyata sama sekali tidak mengubah sistem pembedaan manusia.(This research aims to disclose and describe the formation of ideology in translated novel Yang Maha Kecil written by Arundhati Roy, as well as to recognize its relationship with the author’s ideology using Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony. Gramsci’s hegemony theory is used in this research to observe the practice of ideological hegemony in Yang Maha Kecil through ideological negotiations practiced by the author as a hegemony apparatus. The method used is the qualitative one using the descriptive approach and extensive comprehension of meaning. This research produced findings in the form of identifying a number of ideologies, namely ideology (1) ultra-orthodox, (2) communism, (3) anglophilia, (4) racism, and (5) patriarchy. The negotiated ideology is demonstrated by communism and ultra-orthodox ideology. The conclusion of this research is that there is conflict in the author's perspective on communism and ultra-orthodox ideologies that are negotiated. In this case, the author sees that both communism and the ultra-orthodox (religion), which promote human equality both socially and religiously, apparently fail to change the system of human discrimination.

    The Effectiveness of Using Webinar on Improving Speaking Skills for the Rafah UNRWA Seventh Graders and their Anxiety in Speaking

    This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using Webinar on improving speaking skills for the Rafah UNRWA seventh graders and their anxiety in speaking. The speaking sub-skills which were the study's focus were fluency, accuracy and comprehensibility. For achieving this aim, the researcher adopted the experimental approach. The sample of the study consisted of (48) female students equally divided into (24) students for the experimental group and (24) students for the control one. It was randomly chosen from Rafah Prep (B) Girls' School. The researcher designed three tools; the achievement test to measure the students' speaking achievement, the observation card to observe the students' speaking development, and the anxiety scale to measure the students' anxiety level when speaking occurred due to the implementation of the experiment. The researcher also used the Web based seminar for implementation and the content analysis as helping tools. The experiment was applied during the first term of 2013-2014 scholastic year and used speaking functions in Grade Seven, English for Palestine, Students' book. The experiment lasted for 8 lessons given online through using webinar. The data were analyzed statistically by using Mann Whitney to measure the differences between the performance of the experimental and control group in the pre and the post test. The effectiveness of using Webinar on developing speaking skills was also measured by using Mann Whitney. The results of the study revealed that the webinar has affected positively students' English language speaking skills. It has also reduced students' speaking anxiety. In the light of those findings, the researcher suggested some recommendations that are hoped to help syllabus designers, supervisors and English language teachers in developing teaching speaking skills. The researcher recommends that the Palestinian teachers should update the latest technology tools to get benefit from their advantages

    Receptor-targeted nanocarriers for tumor specific treatment and imaging

    Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The efficacy of chemotherapy in lung cancer is limited by the development of cancer cell resistance during the treatment, difficulties in the delivery of anticancer drugs specifically to lung tumors, and severe adverse side effects of high doses chemotherapy on healthy organs. The main objectives of the present research are: (1) to provide effective delivery of therapeutic and imaging agents to lungs, (2) to mitigate the above described resistance, (3) to enhance the efficacy of lung cancer chemotherapy and limit adverse side effects of the treatment. To achieve these goals, we developed, characterized, and evaluated in vitro and in vivo on orthotopic model of lung cancer using a novel multifunctional tumor-targeted Nanocarrier-based Drug Delivery System (NDDS) composed of (1) a carrier; (2) a synthetic analog of Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LHRH peptide) as a targeting moiety; (3) an anticancer drug or imaging agent; (4) suppressors of drug resistance. We tested and compared: linear polymer, dendrimers and liposomes as nanocarriers; antisense oligonucleotides or small interfering RNA targeted to MRP1 and BCL2 mRNA as suppressors of pump and nonpump cellular resistance respectively; near-infrared cyanine dye Cy5.5, rhodamine, or fluorescein isothiocyanate as imaging agents. The proposed multivalent NDDS exhibited preferential accumulation in the lungs, increased the sensitivity and specificity of tumor imaging, enhanced cancer treatment, and limited adverse side effects of the treatment on healthy organs. Targeting of nanocarriers to tumor specific receptors minimizes the influence of the architecture, composition, size, and molecular mass of nanocarriers on the efficacy of imaging and cancer treatment. Local intratracheal administration sustained higher concentration of NDDS and its payload in the lungs and substantially limited their accumulation in other organs. Moreover, intratracheal local delivery of NDDS led to the more efficient treatment of lung cancer when compared with the intravenous administration of NDDS or free drugs. Simultaneous suppression of pump and nonpump resistance dramatically enhanced the cytotoxicity of the anticancer drug leading to a substantial increase in apoptosis induction.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references

    The Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus Church is the oldest Catholic church in Makassar. Built in 1898, the church later became the cathedral church in Makassar. In this paper, the author makes the church as the object of research using the method of archaeological descriptions. This study aims to find out how the application of building styles in gothic churches and its changes to date. Through the embodiment of the visual elements of the oldest Catholic church in Makassar, the gothic style and other artistic styles of the buildings the church shows an interesting and unique blend of architecture. The shape of windows, doors, and curved roofs is part of the Gothic style that was the influence of the Dutch colonial period. Although the style and forms of this church have a resemblance of form with the later Christian church, the Christian church of Immanuel Makassar, the Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus Church has become part of the Roman Catholic church structure which has many historical values, both in Makassar's local history, as well as Indonesian national history.&#x0D; Keywords: Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Catholic, history, Architecture, Makassar.&#x0D; &#x0D; Gereja Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus merupakan gereja Katolik tertua di Makassar. Dalam tulisan ini, penulis menjadi¬kan gereja Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus sebagai objek penelitian dengan menggunakan metode deskripsi arkeologis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan gaya bangunan pada gereja gotik dan perubahannya hingga saat ini. Melalui perwujudan unsur-unsur visual pada gereja Katolik tertua di Makassar tersebut, gaya gotik dan gaya artistik lainnya dari bangunan memperlihatkan perpaduan arsitektur yang menarik dan unik. Bentuk jendela, pintu, dan atap melengkung adalah bagian dari corak gotik yang merupakan pengaruh dari masa kolonial Belanda. Meskipun gaya dan bentuk gereja ini memiliki kemiripan bentuk dengan gereja Kristen yang muncul kemudian, yaitu gereja Kristen Immanuel Makassar, Gereja Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus, menjadi bagian dari struktur gereja Katolik Roma yang memiliki banyak nilai-nilai sejarah, baik sejarah lokal Makassar, bahkan sejarah nasional Indonesia umumnya. &#x0D; Kata Kunci: Gereja Hati Yesus yang Maha Kudus, Katolik, sejarah, Arsitektur, Makassar.</jats:p

    Local integration of African refugees in Egypt; the policy challenges

    This research discusses the importance of local integration in dealing with the influx of African refugees in Egypt. Given the obstacles to repatriation, and limited opportunities of resettlement, exploring local integration becomes a necessary alternative. Local integration is generally an overlooked option that given the circumstances can be an applicable course of action for both refugees and host countries. Local integration can potentially provide mutual benefit to both refugees and their host countries. This could be seen in the harnessing of development aid, and can be regarded as a sustainable intervention, that accommodates the local integration of refugees in Egypt. The political will of host governments to support local integration as a long-term solution to refugee populations in their countries is critical. This research explores the concept of local integration within the refugee and asylum seeker community in Egypt. This research will create a framework of analysis of local integration and the policy challenges to achieve that, discuss the resource burdens and other obstacles that prohibit the initiation of policies of local integration, and finally discuss the benefits of local integration
