No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2013.Abstract : This study aims to investigate two translations of FLICTS, first children's book written by Ziraldo and first full-colored album for children produced in Brazil, with a view to discussing the different interactions between text and image that might occur within the translation of children's literature. Considered a landmark in Brazilian Children's Literature since its launch in 1969, its British version was translated by Silvia Caruana and published by the publishing house Roger Schlesinger in 1973 and its American English version was translated by Daniela Pinto, originally published by Melbooks in 1984 - subsequently also published by Editora Melhoramentos and commercialized in Brazil. The theoretical framework informing the study is based on the interface of Descriptive Translation Studies, Translation of Children's Literature and the Grammar of Visual Design. By the analyses of a multimodal corpus and a dossier about the history of this printed book, it was possible to note that the several changes along FLICTS publishing history have made up other possible readings on this work

João da Silva Feijó e os dilatados sertões: pensamento científico e representações do mundo natural na capitania do Ceará (1799-1816)
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em História, Florianópolis, 2014.Em 1799 a Capitania do Ceará emancipa-se politicamente da Capitania de Pernambuco e juntamente com um Governador Geral (Bernardo Manoel de Vasconcellos), recebe também por decreto da rainha Maria I um especialista em ciências naturais, o sargento-mor e naturalista João da Silva Feijó, imbuído de observar, descrever e relatar as possíveis riquezas naturais na recém-emancipada Capitania. A presença do luso brasileiro na Capitania do Ceará na primeira metade do século XIX é bem emblemática, e ainda recebe particularidades interessantes como a prospecção de ouro, num período onde as regiões mineradoras atravessavam a crise aurífera, e também salitre, utilizado na composição da pólvora. Além disso, as Memórias elaboradas pelo naturalista são extremamente ricas no que diz respeito à observação das relações que se estabelecem entre homem e mundo natural na Capitania do Ceará, seja no sentido de observação e análise das possíveis produções naturais, ou mesmo nos prognósticos de melhoria em relação à agricultura e mineralogia. Assim, o trabalho em torno das produções do naturalista João da Silva Feijó e das relações homens-ambiente no final do século XVIII e primeiras décadas do século XIX visa perceber e problematizar as ideias, valores, significados, sentimentos e representações atribuídos ao mundo natural na Capitania do Ceará, com suas atribuições no Ceará, servindo à Coroa lusitana nos domínios ultramarinos. Incumbido de observar, descrever e relatar as possíveis "riquezas naturais", em sua posição de naturalista, traz consigo uma série de comentários pertinentes acerca do homem e da terra, de animais, vegetais e de minérios, que nos leva a questionar sobre o valor e a ideia de natureza que se estava a constituir naquele período.Abstract : In 1799 the Capitaincy of Ceará emancipates politically of the General Capitaincy of Pernambuco and together a General Governor (Bernardo Manoel de Vasconcelos), also receives by a decret of the Queen Maria I, a specialist in Natural Sciences, the sergeant-mor and naturalist João da Silva Feijó, with the responsibility of seek, describe and report the possibilities of natural richness in the just-emancipated Capitaincy. The presence of the luso-brasilian in the Capitaincy of Ceará in the beginning of the XIXthcentury is also emblematic, and still receives interesting particularities, like Gold prospection, in a period where the mines were traversing a critical period, and also the prospection of Saltpeter, for the fabrication of powder. Thus, the Memórias elaborated for the naturalist are riches of what concernes the observation of the relations between man and natural world in the Capitaincy of Ceará, as in the sense of observation and analysis of the natural produtions as about in the prognostics of the progress concerning the agriculture and the Mineralogy. So, the questions concerning the productions of naturalist João da Silva Feijó and the relations between man and natural world in the end of XVIIIth century and the beginning of the XIXth century has as objective to perceive and make questions about the ideas, the worth, the meanings, the feelings and representations attributed to the Natural World in the Capitaincy of Ceará, with yours attributions in the Ceará, serving the Portuguese Crown in the ultramarines domains. With the responsibility of seek, describe and report the natural richness, with your position of naturalist, brings pertinent commentaries about the man and the land, the animals, vegetables and minerals, that leads us to put some questions about the worth and the idea of the Nature that were being constituted in that period

No full textPopular culture can be defined as any cultural manifestation (dance, music, festivals, literature, folklore, art, etc.) in which people actively produce and participate. The purpose of this course completion work report is to produce a series of podcasts "Fala Roger Cultural" about the popular and traditional culture of Roger's neighborhood in João Pessoa in Paraíba, contributing to its appreciation and maintenance. We will use as a theoretical basis the concepts of popular culture, radio and podcast as audio programs that present different contents. So 04 (four) cultural activists will be interviewed, each episode with approximately 12 minutes, the episodes will be about the history, difficulties and challenges of the main cultural manifestations of Roger's neighborhood. Based on a historical survey of the cultural facilities in Roger's neighborhood. With this podcast, we hope to bring several contributions in the field of local culture, in order to value and give visibility to the daily lives of residents in their cultural activities and how these practices form a creative element of identification and solidarity between them. Interview with former Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker
No full textIn an oral history interview, Michigan Supreme Court Justice and author of the novel "Anatomy of a murder", John D. Voelker, talks about growing up in Ishpeming, MI, and his education and work background, including his time as a district attorney. Voelker also discusses being appointed to the Court in 1957, running against Joseph Moynihan, Jr. for a seat that same year, how decisions are made by the justices, famous cases he heard, including People v. Hildabridle and his eventual resignation from the Court. Justice Voelker talks fondly about writing, and the books he wrote under the pseudonym Robert Traver and reads an excerpt from "Laughing whitefish" which includes a description of the Michigan Supreme Court chambers. No full textLovely stuff. The drawings really are excellent. I saw the first edition of this book from Harrison in Paris for sale in Atlanta at too high a price but have since found it. I have eight different versions of this Dover reprint. The earliest, which sold for 1.50, I found at Stillwater Book Center for 1.75, comes from an unknown source and seems to have been the Calder Aesop I used personally as I began this collection. Copy C, for 1 from an unknown source. This copy moves the price from the front to the back cover. This version also consolidates the book's first eight pages into two by eliminating four blanks and a page with nothing other than title and author. Now the title-page starts the book. Its verso combines the Publisher's Note, with its date 1967, and the bibliographical material previously on a separate page. This version is unique for listing a price in Canada. Copy D, which sold originally for 15 for it. Copy E, for 2.40 from Cartesian Bookstore, Berkeley, in August of 1994. This version adds an ISBN number on its back cover. Copy F, for 4.95, adds a bar code on and changes the format of the back cover by removing all red except a stripe along the spine. It was a gift of Mary Pat Ryan from Vail, CO, in September of 1997.Sir Roger l'Estrang
